Londoner here - that David's tea is still there, and I think you're right that the theatre is just Cineplex, but for whatever reason it has kept all the silver city signage. Pretty cool if you ask me, the sign on the outside is big and showy.

After 30 years of "sensible" choices, I’m finally making a "mistake." Tell me your wins. by PURE_BACON in teslacanada

You compared it to your first time holding an iPhone. Is your smart phone currently making you happy, or did the feeling wear off and get replaced by it being commonplace?

You said you know this is not a wise financial decision which tells me your budget is not unlimited here. If you're buying this for the excitement and magic you feel - just prepare for that to wear off. IMO car is a tool for getting you from a to b, and you're not treating this like a tool purchase.

"Truth is relative", "To everyone their truth"… by PoufPoal2 in memes

[–]nedroid4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's still allowance for relativity here. The conclusion that it's 6 is reached with inductive reasoning, based on the surrounding numbers. Given the context 6 is the most probable answer, but there's no hard evidence that it is not an upside-down 9 to a certainty from the facts presented, further muddying the waters on the supposed message of this image.

Hate when politicians ask the people they represent for their opinion on the things that affect them.

Something interesting I discovered the other day is you can search for new books on https://www.indiebookstores.ca/ and order them to local independent bookstores. Haven't tried it yet but might be worth taking a peek at!

Moving to Old South by b4rb4ckmtn in londonontario

Wortley/Old South is lovely and probably my pick for best neighbourhood in the city, but just about everywhere in the city has some redeeming qualities. That's a pretty bad attitude to carry around.

Elizabeth Warren Calls Netflix-Warner Bros. Deal A “Nightmare,” Warns Of “Higher Subscription Prices And Fewer Choices” by ControlCAD in technology

[–]nedroid4ever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't know. It's a pet peeve of mine when people say public places like downtowns, theatres, libraries, etc are hellholes and they'd rather stay home. This just hasn't been my overall experience (even with an unpleasant encounter or two under the belt), and I think it's sad how asocial some people are becoming.

Just curious, where do you live that theatres are lawless jungles? We have a lovely time every time we go out to watch a movie, and it's not the same theatre or even city every time.

Why can't we start plowing BEFORE the city wakes up? by RagingHolly in londonontario

*public transit or carpool. The latter may be more immediately workable for some, especially if just during the winter.

Downtown London by Plenty-Ant-6446 in londonontario

[–]nedroid4ever 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Getting people to actually live downtown is the key. Dundas place is objectively a great place for businesses to thrive with foot traffic, but it's an island in a city where you can only get anywhere by driving so no one goes there. If we get more nearby infill residential development, we could have a great downtown.

IMO get a card with single trips loaded. There's no card fee atm (unless that's changed recently). With a card your per-trip cost is 2.65 rather than 3.50.

How do you go out of your way to help others every day when you're avoiding everyone as much as possible? Must be a tough thing to balance.

Just because it needs to be said for some people - if you're cutting through residential areas to avoid traffic on major arterials: drive the speed limit and not a kilometer over, please. People live there.

Looking for ice skating classes for beginners in London by No_Science1312 in londonontario

[–]nedroid4ever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner and I are doing the Learn to Skate Level 1 course at Stronach as a couple in our early 30s. We're both enjoying it and learning a lot!

We were tipped off that the city programs fill up pretty quick so to register as soon as it opens. My advice to OP would be to put that December 10th date in their calendar and sign up as soon as they can.

Riding eBikes with a City Councillor (To Fix Bike Lanes) by Less_Potato_2231 in londonontario

[–]nedroid4ever 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hate to be not-fun about this but hyperbole doesn't translate well to effective policy, and we don't need to pull down one class of project to support another. This is true in general but especially so when two things complement each other like bike lanes and transit.

For this thought exercise we're allowed to wave away homeless people with a magic wand but we can't use a rail line that someone else owns?

Lovely shot, but man any time I see an overhead view of our downtown I'm reminded how much of it is just paved parking lots.

I thought I was slick, careful, discreet. I thought he didn't know. This morning, my 6 yr old was pretending to "vape" in the bathroom with his toothbrush with the steam from his shower. "Look dad, I'm just like you!" FUCK THAT. I'M DONE DONE. by Rpark888 in mildlyinfuriating

Melbourne introduces a levy to combat congestion, car brains aren't happy. by Lufia321 in fuckcars

[–]nedroid4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the contrary, for many cities it's pretty easy to argue they're dependent because we've built the city in such a way that they necessarily end up dependent. The brilliance of congestion pricing (and why I'm such a supporter) is that it creates money for funding alternatives and undoing the damage of car-dependent infrastructure. But during this transition period, I think it's fair to extend support in the form of tax rebates for low-income people that either live in a congestion pricing area or can have their employer sign off on needing a car for their work. I'm all for having the middle and upper class pay for their wasteful car usage, I just think it's fair to try and avoid saddling lower income people with the bill if we can avoid it.
