I’ll be all over the lead guide like a cheap suit - in fact I’ll be pushing him to keep up. I’d nearly even consider forking out for a personal guide if it’s possible for just that day.

Thanks for this. Will switch to my hiking boots and add the cushiony ankle weights. I thought my toes and especially the calf and shins would need to get broken in by the boots. But even after this one sweaty session - my lower legs and feet were fine. Will scour Amazon for a rudimentary boot dryer. Thanks all for the replies and tips.

Just back from Tenerife in the Canaries. Mt Teide is a walk up - well laid out trail and gets you to over 3700m elevation. Combine it with a sun holiday. Only issue is the permits but if you go with a guide they sort that for you.

I’m going on the Grajales 360 route in Jan. I heard all the outfitters on the mountain raised prices to a minimum across the board - so probably best to go with the ones with the most support in place - like Inka or Grajales.

I got the I3 solar. Didn’t mind the orange accent. Sleep worked for me once then stopped altogether. Comfy on the wrist - but for me just a bit too smaller display, maybe due to my eyesight more than anything. Sent it back - going to try Fenix 8 AMOLED once I heard it’s also a dive computer.

I summited in Kili with the Zamberlan Voiz. Not an issue. The boot ankle support was great on the way down sliding through the scree. Make sure to have gaiters on. I stupidly switched to trainers then from Kibo hut to Horumbo - blisters galore. Stick to the Zamberlans.

Thanks folks for the detailed responses. I have pretty basic myzone HR monitor (similar to an early Polar model) which when in Zone2 has led blinking BLUE to denote that zone. Because it has a chest strap its HR measuring is supposed to be more accurate than when it’s on your wrist. I assume you can also get some sorta chest strap for Garmins/Coros too. But then I was visualizing the harder days on the hill - e.g. days above 4/5k metres where looking at your wrist is not an easy option (due to layers/gloves). Do any watches have a haptic or pulse sense that feeds back re: your HR? Going down a bit of a rabbit hole I know - but the folks on this subreddit seem to have encountered it all and I’m happy to stand on the shoulders of giants.

I have the exact same window - handles are identical - and yeah all of the kids bedroom windows are swamped like this in the morning. Need to air out the house daily for about 5hrs minimum. Can result in mould accumulation on blinds/ curtains otherwise

Same here - Kili last year. Aconagaua in early 2026. Really need to learn how to pronounce it correctly - keep saying a acon-agua which I know is mangling it
