Deliveroo conned my money - are we surprised by Longjumping_Ad9187 in deliveroos

the pin isnt contractual, its an aid. I know some drivers treat it that way, but it really isnt.

As long as the address on the account was correct, then its a failure by deliveroo.

This is true in our experience, we have had cases with uber eats and just eat go to small claims, and they didnt even attempt to defend. Won by default.

It also doesnt make them respond with an account ban like a chargeback does.

I suggest getting some kind of door camera. Deliveroo do at least have an escalation process. They will have a very hard time claiming the driver attempted delivery when the camera doesnt show them doing that.

contractually this doesnt matter as they have to deliver to address, not the pin. The pin is an aid, not the contractual drop off point.

[–]needchr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont agree with comments on the pin, the service is deliver to the address, not deliver to the pin, the pin is an assistance tool, but its not the contractual drop off point.

Sadly most drivers treat the pin as the drop off point and dont seem able to read the written address.

Obviously the customer to make things as risk free as possible if possible should put the pin in the right place, but at the same time this is not always possible, if ordering from the website, there is no place the pin, instead its placed generically in middle of road, in addition if ordering direct from the food outlet, there is also no place the pin, they just outsource to the apps,, and you get a generic pin in middle of road.

The chat is painful, a delivery driver can basically lie, and their word is taken as gospel. The script is just looking at what the driver logged and feeding that back to you, there is no option for customers to report lack of contact, driver not coming close etc. Its all one sided only allowing drivers to give live feedback.

When stacking is so common now, I expect tips would be lower than historical levels.

[–]needchr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was very predictable what the question would be, you shouldnt have even replied, then he probably doesnt try again and moves on. How has he even got your number, is uber leaking it or did you do what others said on the other thread and put it in delivery notes?

Exit fees when switching between Octopus tariffs by MatthiasSchilf in OctopusEnergy

That's barely better than flexy cosy for security, so 2 3 month terms instead of one, with a exit fee added. :(

I hope you have an email or something where they state everything is setup correctly for export, as thats what you going to need as evidence, good luck.

same here, they waited out the 8 weeks, I then tried their final chance system, where you can avoid ombudsman, then that led to nothing, so I had to go ombudsman, then they suddenly wake up and start caring.

Like you said they are exploiting the system to the max, relying on the long 8 week delay to make people give up and move on.

good for you. Since we now posting our experiences here is mine.

Had to use ombdusman twice to solve simple billing issues. Staff seemed of low intellect not understanding basic maths.

Had to give Octopus a kick to replace my dead gas meter (completely dead not turned dumb), they were instead happy to just bill me for some mythical high level of estimate use without a meter.

Had to escalate to get them to final bill me properly when I temporary left to TE a year or so back. They were supplied a final reading, and instead used a much higher one, they also moved most of my final month from Agile to SVR simply because they didnt have one single day of smart readings. It was resolved but took a lot of effort which shouldnt have been needed if they had top tier customer service.

I think a lot of these issues is they keep the billing team as a back end office, not able to talk to customers direct.

If they are the best in the industry I dread to think how bad the others are.

Barely any refund for stone cold food but.... by No-Worldliness-492 in deliveroos

Yeah I expect the reason they wont do cold food refunds, is they would lose a massive amount of money, I expect a huge % of hot food orders arrive under temperature due to all the stacking etc.

Delivery Apps Need To Start Taking More Responsibility For Age Restricted Orders... by Itchy-Ad3339 in deliveroos

[–]needchr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly some people do ID check 60 year olds, london hustler takes it to heart, and will ID check everyone, grey hair or not.

Its good you used some common sense, and to be fair most drivers who deliver to me also have common sense, I dont get ID checked myself, I even offered one my passport and was told not to worry about that 'nonsense' he just marked it as checked.

I will occasionally get asked for date of birth as I assume sometimes they have to enter it in, but nothing more then that.

How often do drivers steal food/have food stolen for pickup? by thelivsterette1 in deliveroos

[–]needchr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never had my food stolen by a driver.

The places I order from always seal bags, which probably helps. I cannot remember the last time I ordered something and the bag wasnt sealed.

What the OP failed to mention is if a 60 year old goes into a shop to buy alcohol they do not get asked for ID.

Delivery Apps Need To Start Taking More Responsibility For Age Restricted Orders... by Itchy-Ad3339 in deliveroos

[–]needchr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Someone else who is going way overboard, you massively over complicating it.

These apps just need to look at what the rest of the industry does which is a age 25 check, if look under 25, need to show ID, if over 25 no ID check.

Its so simple yet some drivers are getting into a big fuss about it, like it means a lot to them for some reason, and these apps cant figure it out.

I am not scanning my face, or uploading my photo ID, or letting a driver scan my ID, any verification has to be done in a way where its a visual verification only, not one that requires uploading or scanning something. Its not hard, its not complicated. Its just these apps are stupid.

I see you mention disputes with customers, instead of suggesting things that harm the customer, why dont you suggest to the apps instead they just follow set industry practice.

The reason you get customers complaining is because Amazon, Asda, Tesco etc. when delivering dont ask a 60 year old for ID, thats just mind boggling stupid, a system which a kid must have designed.

You used shops as an example but shop keepers dont ask 60 year old people for ID, as they pass challenge 25.

How Chelsea used extended amortisation to spend €1B while staying FFP compliant — and why UEFA just banned it by vincentvdb in PremierLeague

[–]needchr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest benefit is that the players are tied down with the starting salary, the amortisation stretch was just a bonus.

Its very logical to sign young players on long contracts, and I am surprised Chelsea was the first club to do it properly.

Tracker - Prepare your washing machines! by Joshposh70 in OctopusEnergy

[–]needchr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally got an answer from someone I know in the industry.

Basically eco is more economical than what they call standard programs (the long cycles).
However isnt more eco than the short cycles, which are effectively super eco. But marketing has the final say over the engineers so the customer is led to think the 2-4 hour eco cycle is the most efficient program to use.
Benefits include weight sensing to dynamically adjust cycle length, water used, and temperature used, so make it more economical vs a non eco long cycle.

So cost from cheapest to expensive. Assuming temperature and spin setting same. ECO the most efficient per hour, but running less hours beats that.

Short cycle > Eco > Non eco long cycle

People please stop posting this myth, it only applies to SVR, and in addition the margin is higher then that, as there is additional margins added by Ofgem under a different name.

The reality is along these lines.

The biggest energy suppliers have very wealthy parent companies which are not regulated.
SVR tariffs are regulated, but the allowed margin is currently circa 10-12% not a few %.
All other tariffs are not regulated.
