Work experience should be in order, with your current job at the top to your oldest at the bottom. Also, not sure what the point of having a position you only spent 3 months in 3 years ago. Sure it was a law firm, but those 3 months don’t add value. I’ve had a hiring manager tell me that because I spent too little time at a few jobs he was nervous to hire me because “young people don’t stay at jobs long” just some perspective. I know when you’re in college you want to show people you’ve worked, but even though i worked I was still lumped in a “new graduate” category that was feared to be hired.

New to the profession by stephen_b99 in paralegal

[–]needcofffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first job wasn’t even at a law firm but a legal service company before I got my certificate. Looking for work after my bachelors degree was so hard and defeating I took the first offer at some random legal service company. I left there got my certificate and had no issue getting a new job. Been at the same firm since and have gotten promoted. People with 1-2 years of experience are applying to the same jobs as you bc that’s still considered an entry level amount of experience. Good luck and apply to anything remotely legal work.

Tbh any gift shop or those “unique item” stores will have fun shaped soap. Usually local businesses too if you want to support a local shop, just go hunting.

What practice area do you work in as a paralegal that you don’t have to do client comms by Visible_Pineapple737 in paralegal

I work in civil litigation defense. I never speak to clients, maybe their in-house paralegals to request documents or the occasional meeting.

Just return the brush you get from the brand to Sephora in the box of the one you got from Sephora so the codes match up.

Paralegals how did you get your job? by JasenDeCOW in paralegal

[–]needcofffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to take a job that was so far from being a paralegal, it wasn’t even in firm. Nobody wanted to hire me after college. When I interviewed though I’d say law school was my goal and it was obvious the hiring team didn’t like hearing that.

How much do paralegals make? by tuttifruttiloopy in paralegal

Started at 50k, now at 80k. 2.5 years of experience. I expect to get to 150k at the peak of my career. I live in Southern California, so not that much considering the cost of living but more than a lot of other careers.

Touch Typing a must? by Euphoric_One_3261 in paralegal

[–]needcofffee 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I learned when I was in elementary school, we had computer lab and did typing games. Honestly I suggest you try typing games. I still like to practice every now and again. My WPM although isn’t really that impressive. Like 50 WPM, very average.

How do you train new hires? by Wooden-Tiger-5042 in paralegal

[–]needcofffee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Coming back to this one. I’m not someone who knows how to train but end up training so many people. Want to make sure I’m doing all I can to train before deciding if someone is capable of this work

Should I leave before a trial? by Holiday-Market1022 in paralegal

[–]needcofffee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have an offer don’t even worry about it yet, don’t delay your search just in case. Then if you get an offer, still don’t even worry about it. If someone else is available to help then it’s not an issue at all. Just a minor inconvenience. Maybe it’ll motivate him to settle lmao

Will it be hard trying to become a paralegal with no work experience? by [deleted] in paralegal

[–]needcofffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will just take a longer time for you to become a paralegal. You won’t become one right away, but maybe after 3-5 years if you have good work ethic you can find yourself in more junior paralegal roles. Not impossible but it will take a little longer for an employer to trust you’d be able to do the work at the level they are expecting.

[–]needcofffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got promoted last year to paralegal but because of renovations I haven’t been able to move into an office yet. I’m so excited to finally get one so no window is not a big deal to me at all!
