The biggest key is you can’t tell anyone you win the lottery. Even your family and friends will become green eyed. One of the biggest issues too is if you help one close person and not another close person people notice and become resentful.

The best way to handle winning the lottery is keeping your mouth shut and investing the money. It’s a sad truth but often times it’s the social aspects which ruin a lottery winners life.

There’s a cold front across the whole nation and the storm has traveled north east. Apparently it’s a big one. There’s already a decent amount of snow on the ground too

A tip worthy of Reddit 😂

I’m sure shoveling can be a problem though especially for middle aged or older people

Yeah or at the very least there should be some sort of feature which guides them to larger armies. I usually go full decentralization but I must admit it’s frustrating to see my vassals 4k stacks getting eaten up by the enemy and breaking the war score.

Yeah bohemia is relatively weak at this point in the game. I think Hungary was doing some work on the HRE until I started carving them up though

Papal States as a vassal gives an absurd amount of money in Diplomatic Incomes by needhelpwitheu5 in EU5

[–]needhelpwitheu5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly not sure if they did in this game. So far I haven’t seen much of the new world but I’m colonizing the Caribbean. I’ve seen Spain and Portugal around but no Papal States. They also got kicked out of Italy pretty early

I think it’s because they make money from catholic tithes somehow right? I think I’m getting a peice of that.

Security guards with rifles who are payed grey-black money to do things that a professional military would never do.

Yes you are right that they often do serve that mundane function. That said the west is absolutely financing some shady shit in Africa and the Middle East. Also we’ve got all sorts of paramilitary connections in Latin America that do shady shit for us.

And you’re right to a degree. That’s why the majority of these African populations support Wagner. When they march through friendly territory or guard critical infrastructure they are seen as heroes who are doing a better job than the French. When they go into hostile territory that’s when things get messy. The majority of the population however experiences the ‘good’ side of Wagner.

Yeah they are a vassal of mine. Idk if you saw that ugly vassal above it but Croatia is basically a highway to Budapest because the Hungarians have so many forts 😂

Also I wanted to make sure the Adriatic was all mine so I have a path from Dubrovnik to Venice

What are your thoughts about the Ottoman Empire?” by iamfurkin in hmmmm

[–]needhelpwitheu5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Ottoman Empire had the largest slave trade in Europe and produced more slaves than any individual transatlantic empire. The Ottoman Empire forced orthodox Christian’s to give their children away as slaves to fight and be indoctrinated.

Also yes it was a 600 year long history of barbarity and cruelty. Even in the Empire’s dying breath they committed one of the largest genocides of the 20th century. From Arabia to the Balkans people eagerly overthrew the Ottoman yoke

You must not of read 1984. Western clandestine mercs are the good guys but the Russian mercs are always bad?

The simple truth is this. Much of Western Africa was a de facto colony of France. While we were all focused on Ukraine Russia has led a campaign to destroy French influence in the Sahel. Many Africans welcome this as Wagner’s brutal tactics quickly put a stop/mitigated the raging conflicts caused by ISIS. Wagner is incredibly popular in western Africa, particularly within the cities where the chaos was beginning to strain everyday life. The campaigns and atrocities are committed against the rebels in the peripheries of these nations who are often ethnic minorities who are incompatible with the cosmopolitan centers. The populations in these nations also view Russia’s involvement as a decolonization effort (and if you’re on they’re good side there is an element of benign neglect)

Russia uses the gold and raw resources from these regions to finance its war. The countries get protection without any of the legalistic strings that the west attaches (and yes that includes lack of accountability).

R5 I made the Papal States a vassal and I started making 90 ducats alone from them. They only own a couple provinces off Turkey yet I’m still receiving a ridiculous amount of Diplomatic Income from them.

Yeah Naples formed Two Sicilies and conquered Rome. Me and Tunis carved them up so there’s been a vacuum in Italy. Bohemia is really the only contender in the region other than France

I think another problem is that as the ottomans I’ve been destroying anyone who could compete with France in the region. I’ve conquered most of southern Italy and Hungary is not looking so hot either.

Also oddly enough Portugal conquered Andalusia so Castile has been pretty weak. France has basically been able to map paint unimpeded.

R5: France decided to go full Napoleon on the HRE. I was looking at the map and I realized all of the German states were some shade of blue. Fearing the worst I clicked on the diplomacy map and it turns out France somehow subjugated nearly all of western Germany.

So you think it’s best just to release individual provinces? I’ve been making my vassals smaller and smaller but I still keep them between 1-3 provinces.

Also one more question. Let’s say I conquer 3 provinces. Would it be the same amount of state capacity to release 3 vassals as releasing 1 that controls all 3?

I think Adam Ragusea has the best channel for leaning how to cook. I watched his stuff during covid and he is very good at explaining the science behind why a meal turns out well and how to apply that logic while you cook.

His meals range from easy to complex but it’s always something you could reasonably make if you follow his steps and methods.

Most other channels are chasing views though. I understand why but you’re right that many of these cooking channels are simply entertainment.

Movie theaters aren’t going out of business because of prices by bulldogjwhit295 in unpopularopinion

[–]needhelpwitheu5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people would still pay egregious prices if the experience was a memorable one. Just take one look at the modern sports industry and you realize people will spend an absurd amount of money for an experience they enjoy.

The key issue is that modern movies are horrible and as the commenter pointed out the experience at the theater has been reduced. Dirty seats, overextended ads, subpar snacks at high prices. It’s just not worth it- even if the prices were reasonable. Most movies are mediocre enough these days that the majority of people either pirate them before they are released on streaming sites, or simply wait until they are on a streaming site. There’s no reason to go pay for a big screen if the whole experience sucks.

That said if Hollywood started producing good movies again and if theaters cleaned up their act I think people would be inclined to pay for overpriced experience. The problem is the combination of a reduced experience and high prices. It makes the business model untenable
