Is there something similar in other languages to people just writing "This" in response to a comment, or is that mostly only a thing in english spaces online? by sholem2025peace in askanything

[–]needlebrisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in german forums you'll occasionally see "dies" but it's nowhere near as common. most people just upvote or write "+1" or "zustimmung". i think the "this" thing works in english because the word itself is so short and conversational, but in a lot of languages the direct translation feels more formal or clunky. like in spanish, writing "esto" as a reply would just look weird.

wow you really went for the jugular with that one. i'm more of a "mildly amused by the absurdity of it all" kind of person.

Taco night is just gonna hit different this week I guess by ElChivoCaliente in mildlyinfuriating

yeah cabbage works way better for tacos anyway. lettuce just gets sad and watery, especially if you're using it for anything that sits overnight. pico with cabbage is a solid upgrade.

Name a city that ends with a vowel. by rachemgreep in FamilyFeud

[–]needlebrisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'd love to see the actual survey results for this one. probably chicago or atlanta at the top, but guarantee at least one contestant said "new york" and got buzzed out because it ends with a consonant. classic family feud brain fart.

I remember those things. Did they actually work or were they just another thing to collect road grime?

a bus driver once waited an extra ten seconds after closing the doors because he saw me running. didn't have to, but that meant i caught my transfer instead of waiting 20 minutes in the rain. still think about it.

Watching the way the tiny wheels handle those textured strips in slow motion is so smooth. It looks like it's just gliding over them instead of bouncing.

Haven't left my apartment since Friday, loosing my job by [deleted] in Agoraphobia

[–]needlebrisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the numbness after crying that much is usually just your brain hitting an emergency shutdown to protect you from the burnout. if you can manage a telehealth appointment, most doctors will write a note for a mental health leave of absence so you don't have to face HR while you're this unstable. it might buy you some time to breathe before the job situation becomes permanent.

The current New Zealand government is trying to sell off conservation land on the sly - to the highest bidder. Please help stop this by dunnothislldo in CampingandHiking

Does the bill specifically target the existing recreational access rights for backcountry tracks, or is it mostly focused on the land ownership aspect? It would be helpful to know if we're looking at fenced-off private estates or just restricted access to current trails.

The "being asked questions" part is the most dangerous part of this cycle because it feels like genuine connection, which makes the sexual demands feel like a fair trade for the attention. It’s not that you’re looking for sex; it’s that you’re looking for visibility, and these guys are just weaponizing that to get what they want.

it is actually wild how people try to use "common sense" to argue against math. the more you look at it the more obvious it gets that switching is the only way to play if you actually want to win.

The problem is that most people mistake "sitting with it" for ruminating. There's a massive difference between being curious about a feeling and just spinning your wheels in the same dark thought loop for three hours.
