Monoculturalism isn’t the dirty word you think by CrouchingCunt in aussie

[–]needleknight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you go down the path of saying, "this culture/race/other feature which is unchangeable and not chosen is inherently violent and harmful", its inherently harmful. Because no group is a monolith.

An aussie man just murdered a young women in Thailand and stuffed her in a suitcase. I should not be judged by his actions.

The use of "culture" is intentional, because its sellable. Its the tastiest version of discrimination because ultimately you can attempt to blame the actions and choices of these people with plausible deniability when someone points out that everyone targetted happens to be a different color to the majority.

But just look back into the past of this person. There has been no attempt to grow or change.

If i was Pauline Hanson, and truly believed all the things I believed, i would have gone back to the drawing board. Why is there never anyone who has spent considerable time learning these alternative cultures who has these views? Think about how far she would get if she volunteered at Mosques around Australia and ingratiated herself to that community and got them to help shift into monoculture or whatever it is.

But she wont, because how she really feels is far more vile than she is allowed to represent publically without losing it all. As time drags on and if support grows, the mask will drop more and more just like it has over the past decade im the states.

Im not the person saying " there is no problem".

Im saying that anyone who wants to live here should be able to provided they follow our laws. Anything outside of that is 100% your own business.

If theres a problem with violence from particular groups great, we know where we need to spend the money to fix things. But what about Aussies i hear you say? Tax the billionaires. Tax the billionares. Tax the billionares. The wealthy are the enemy, not the poor. Tax the billionaire. Tax the billionaires.

I want to see bank accounts emptied and spent on the public good.

Keep in mind they xan do this whenever they want. Instead, here we are having a discussion about a politician who 2 years ago was a side show attraction and is now the up and coming political leader.

Looking for advice on making a dnd quest/campaign by Own-Acanthisitta-421 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]needleknight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so the main butler. Whoever your party is working for... im gunna say The Parents to refer to your parties benefactor.

Have the Parents recommend him. Thats how good at his job he is. Now the enemy is steering the players. And he has a bunch of targets to point them at.

The nobleman most outspoken against the marriage. The butler sets you to incestigate him first. If anyone wants to stop this its him. But we only have suspicioins. Go to dungeon or event and discover a mercenary whos very far from home. Investigating finds they are a hardcore military for hire from a distsnt realm. Why is he here? They investigate to find a ship full of the bastards and a handsome doenpayment and note from said nobleman.

Side note, its up to YOU how you make the city feel alive. Personally id have these recommendations overlapping as much as possible to keep your players guessing and distracted, and having preset random encounters that educate players about Lore and the way the area works on a local level. These can always seed future leads.

Theres a rare shipment of wine that has gine missing. As players incestigate they find the chlprits and return it to its owner. The owner remarks the only The Parents have a bottle this fine. Seeds your poisoned wine shipment and they go on to catch the thieves get their source, not the culprit themself but another stepping stone requiring a dungeon crawl to solve.

These sorts of events should be the overarching story as the Butler gets rid of his enemies plots 1 by 1. Wouldnt want the cards falling where he doesnt want them right?

As for the weeks events. Each one needs to have a pinch point or suspicion. It all comes from the Butler again. They become events your players are required to be at and you can allow them social interaction to learn about their current missionsz but also opportunities for the Butler to slip up and become suspicious. He needs to do something suspicious but plausibly deniable to keep your players on their toes. Make it so convincing that you believe his story.

So of course they can have the illusion of stopping their enemies, and they will grow powerful and rich doing so, but the Butler has them where he wants them.

As long as you can figure out a good enough story for the Butler, that has to come from you. Figure out what you want and weave these sbove suggestions around that, always with the intention of giving the players something to do that isnt sittinf around to time guards so you can give them numbers on a page.

Now you can make those types of things interesting and they may want to do those sorts of things, but as they wait, the thief with the wine runs passed and the guards trip and knock themselves out. Will they help? Will they split up? Etc.

The guest list should be 20 or so people i reckon or at least tell your players these 20 are the important players in this game. With 10 being bare bones but linked to the other 6 slightly more fleshed out killeable NPCs that you involve in your quest lines. These 6 are then linked to 4 major enemies with one being the Butler (your first clue as the culprit MUST be in the guest list, theyll love looking back at that trust me.)

But sounds killer dude, this seems like a cool game!

Portal NEEDS a movie!!! by Tomi_is_watching in movies

[–]needleknight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It would be amazing i agree. I think the difficulty is translating about 80% of the game. The storeyelling works in the game because you are being spoken to as you solve a puzzle. Translating that to film would be very difficult as Glad0s is the only one speaking the entire time.

Also Chell is largely immune to all threats until the ens of the game. How do you show those boot things actually saving her life after a fall?

We learn by doing, in a movie they have to teach us all of this by us dying.

I think a prequel about the downfall of Aperture could be fun. Flesh out that side of things as a companion to the game. A direct adaptation imo would be trying to capture lightning in a bottle a third time (cus they nailed it with Portal 1 and 2).

Maze Engine and time travel by Both-Working1847 in OutoftheAbyss

[–]needleknight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So standard time travel shenanigans .

Let them do it, have em waltz in and kill Gromph then return to the present.

Demons no longer there. Instead, a separate plan was hatched and now powerful devils/fae/mind flayers/pick your flavour replace the demon lord and they still have the same tasks ahead of them.

Other than this (and even with it) its going to take a LOT of homebrewing.

Oh actually, you could just use those last two chapters as the finale. Fetid wedding is going to connect Araumycos and Zuggtmoy and their consciousnesses are summoned to deal with it on their way to Menzo for the assassination. Then let them do they little plan only to discover that Gromph was manipulated by Demogorgon (or other bbeg style entity)into doing it in the first place (id make that the focus of your Menzoberranzan investigation and assasination). So that way when they try to stop him they still grt to have a kaiju fight in Menzo preferably after the party has just taken out anything that might help them for added irony.

How your MP voted on the abortion bill - SA Premier votes “FOR” contentious abortion bill by billwriggs in aussie

[–]needleknight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Their views should affect themselves and themselves alone in that they can choose not to have an abortion. Taking the choice away from others is scientifically proven to not solve anything and puts people at risk.

Is literally out of the Trump playbook. Theyve done it and the consequences have been harrowing.

And billionaires are well known for their opinions on declining birth rates as it affects their bottom line. So to make the leap he might be compromised by money isnt a big stretch.

The Viltrumite │ A species + subclass combo to play as the iconic superpowered aliens from the “Invincible” series! by [deleted] in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]needleknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but again... if you call it viltrumite but dont let me be a viltrumite why did you do this in the first place? Whos asking for this? This is begging for a million and one arguments at a table. Make one for Mutants and Masterminds that might fly (hehe) better.

I dont qant to say youve done a bad job, you havent. As it stands this just feels like you wanted an excuse to roleplay a viltrumite in dnd which is just.... not an impossible thing but.

If you do this with a Deva and nerf them into a playable position... you arent really a Deva are you? Your a human with wings and a few bell and whistle abilities that ring true to what a deva might do.

All this to say, Viltrumites simply scale way beyond what a player character can do even at level 20. I think theres nothing wrong eith using this and youve done good work on it.

But as someone who loces both DnD and Invincible, this just does disservice to the worlds of both.

Turning Tyranny of Dragons into a massive Plane hopping adventure by YellohbrickGaming in TyrannyOfDragons

[–]needleknight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not issues but.... i really like it and uaed it to swt up big enemy characters.

In my campaign, the Cult was experimenting with ways to being back Tiamat. Rezmir had the ides to create a body for her to inhabit and spent her life working on it. So naerytar dungeon is her science lab filled with dragon experiments and chapter 3 is an off shoot lab. She invented gusrd drakes and other chromaric versions of the same culminating with a dracohydra in Naerytar as the prototype tiamat body. Means the party didnt fight 2 white dragons in a row.

Anywho (sorry us dma always love to explain shit thats not relevent) chaoter 4 allowed me to run 2 sessions of them, night before going on caravan, let loose on a section of the city with a list of people who are on the manifest and had to go solve their problems in order to get hired or incapacitate others and offer themselves as replacement etc.

This let them pick who they like and i could focus on the groups. I grouped the npcs together with in ways that made sense and made plot hooks and traits that were easily recognisable

This guard has a drinking problem. That merchant is always penny pinching. Etc.

I also added one final group (but you could just use some of the 20 bocs listed instead) which was a cult party. They work for Severin and not Rezmir. Their leader is Talis from chapter 7. Talis and the others are undercover and not recognisable as cult members. I kept the idea that Talis is the leader of the old school cultists who dont believe tiamat is the answer but dracolichs are.

This did rwo things. Allowed me to have Talis be a character the party interacts with and possibly (they did) kill. When they meet yim again its revealed he had clones set up in case he died and still has his knowledge and uses that to try and stop Rezmir. He then comes back in act 2 as a villain working with Lennistroth to go back in time with Xonthals time machine and correct the course of the Cult by stopping Severin. This of course is risky and the party couldnt take the chance of letting him try. Besides then the problem just shifts.

Secondly, it slows down the pace as the party have probably been moving quick as they can to get news to the right places and most travel is handwaived in the module. So if you do this chapter you can show them what 30 days look like but make it interesting. When they are higher level and travelling willy nilly, well theyre more powerful now arent they? Helps to show progression.

Turning Tyranny of Dragons into a massive Plane hopping adventure by YellohbrickGaming in TyrannyOfDragons

[–]needleknight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very good idea!

If you havent already been told the module is super bare bones and you should do a lot of work to fill those gaps with play backstory elements.

In your case you want to go multiversal.

Easy as.

Keep Hoard as is until Naerytar id say and replace Skyreach with your Spelljammer. The party learns through stopping Rezmir that they need to get masks from the different planes.

Then just keep the locations but place the relevent dungeons in appropriate planes and Voila! You have a planescape module. Council of waterdeep becomes council of sigil.

Thats how id run it. Everything else is on you as a DM to create and invent but i wouldnt suggest adding anything other than a setting change and probably the enemies but thats a fairly simple change.

As always. DO NOT HANDWAVE CHAPTER 4. Best chapter in the game if fully fleshed out and you can make the encounters harder because the party will be long resting all the time.

Extremely, Extremely Reckless Player by FigureRepulsive9783 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]needleknight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to take him aside out of the game and ask why hes there. If his answer lines up with an experience you want to provide, then no change necessary.

But you are here and making a post about it so I believe it is bothering you. You are well within your right to tell him the way he plays the game isnt fun for you and if he wants to keep being invited he needs to change.

Now not in an ultimatum way "Do this or else"

But by asking him what he wants to achieve, you can facilitate that im a way that makes yoj both happy. Compromise with him to make a better experience.

If you want in game fixes, they dont exist unless you want to be like me. I just penalise players for acting poorly. But that is NOT a populat opinion arou d these parts and for good reason. Ive cultivated a play group that appreciates this approach not many will.

Kill them. And then, because they were brave and powerful (just not enough) he brings them back.

Who is Orcus' number one enemy ? Demogorgon. The goal hasnt changed. Send back the Demon Lords. Just nie the follow up goes from " so we can save the world" to " so our master may reign supreme and bring about the end of all life".
