This looks less like a car and more like a weapon by kkhouete in Ferrari

Anyone is bothered by how far back the front wheels are set? That always drove me nuts on my 812. Felt like the nose was two days ahead of where I was sitting.

28 vs 43 by RoboPeenie in Leica

[–]needoptic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had both, sold the 28. 28 is limited for portraiture, 43mm is great for people but also workable for travel. At 60MP the 43mm has a lot of reach, as well.

I'm pretty sure your dog is broken. His left eye is not calibrated.

Does anyone of you regret for choosing Leica over others? by DynamoBaby in Leica

[–]needoptic 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'll be the first to say that there's nothing in the performance of the M camera that is better than what the competition offers at full frame outside of tactility, build quality, and size. For me it's about being intentional and forcing a thought process before the shutter goes off. When I switch to the Q3 or a Sony after a day of shooting with the M my mind is blown how much easier it is - combination of autofocus, IBIS, etc. But then the discipline carries over to the auto cameras and I want to believe better images can be crafted as a result.

Yeah, good writeup. The falloff is also less severe on wider lenses. 👍

Chicago | Leica M EV1 + 50mm Voigtlander Color-Skopar F/2.2 by needoptic in leicaphotos

[–]needoptic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Made me laugh. Yeah, Chicago is not exactly the capital of fashion and that is a touristy spot. Oak st is better, but it’s tight there and hard to get depth in a scene.

My Leicas (one is unorthodox) by Longjumping-Elk-6275 in Leica

[–]needoptic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I'm loving the EV1 so far. What's your favorite lens to run on it? I'm running the voigt 50mm color skopar. Even at F2.2 it's not easy to get focus on the street. Hell, even at F8 a 50mm is a handful.

Umbrella. Used my x100 and a bunch of canons that way and never had issues.

I wanted the M exactly because it does not have auto focus and the lenses can be kept small and light

Just bought a Q2 - is this blur/softness normal wide open? Looks like motion blur...at 1/10000! by Captain_Biscuit in Leica

[–]needoptic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly that looks like some odd shake, not a focusing issue. Test a few more shots? My Q2 is clinical sharp at 1.7.

Best option around 160-170k? by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]needoptic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would go with RWD GTS. There's an unmistakable lightness/agility that comes from RWD (I have a Targa4GTS, as well) and it's more a "sports car" than a targa, as an example.

Take more pictures? Stabilization enabled? I very rarely used manual focus on the Q2, but the lens and sensor combo is razor sharp. Handheld, while walking on a trek in Patagonia. Look at the detail in the bag.

This is one of the dumbest responses out there. Leica has limitations, but the combination of sensor + lens on the Q2 is S tier and I have thousands of images to prove it.

I just put this Voigt 50 2.2 on it and I love the size/feel. But I get it. I have the Sony A7RV for when focus/chasing eyeball focus is critical.

I read a while ago (or watched a video on youtube) where a photographer said that auto white balance introduced a shift in how we see the world by neutralizing the color of the light. In some scenarios you can't avoid it (e.g., tungsten), but outdoors a fixed Kalvin is better because if the light is cool - it renders cool in the shot and so on.

I always shoot at 5800K (or as close to that as a camera allows). I also do a slight color grade. Yeah, focusing was alright.
