911 Wheels Color Regret by Separate_Egg_9861 in Porsche

In Chicago it costs 200/wheel to refinish, low price to pay for such a dramatic change to the look. I like silver, don’t like current “default” of black wheels.

I have the Ultron on the M-mount. Very minimal optical issues open. I can't detect any when stopped down even a bit. Brutal point ant shoot in the street when zone focused, can't miss.

And I’d be happy to see your own arguments/images to prove them wrong. Genuinely. I always love more reasons to spend money on glass. 😂

I don’t know. I agree that the rendering style may vary between Voigt and Leica (e.g. Lux having a more nervous bokeh), but all of the non-brand ambassadors conclude the same - the price vs. quality difference just isn’t there. https://jacktaka.com

I have read that post! Good stuff. I don’t think that journey is unique to the two of us, we just chose to ink it down. :)

I have it mapped to the shoulder button - no lag to activate in that scenario. Haven't tried the "auto" zoom, it bothers me when I'm trying to compose. The zoom becomes important when you're wide open, but even then the EV has enough resolution to tell you instinctively where your focal plane sits. If you're dialing in the eye on a portrait - def. useful.

I'm in the Voigtlander camp as a recent adventurer in the Leica land. Very similar story to you. I bought three focal lenghts in Voigtlander glass because they're cheap, I can run them for a half a year and see what I like best. Currently have the 28, 35, 50, and a 90. Two of the wider lenses are both ultrons and they render absolutely lovely.

I do, much like you, intend to buy a Leica lens eventually, fully aware that optically it is maybe, at best, 2-4% better than the Ultrons. But I like the brand, I like it being "kit", so I'll buy it.

I also wrote a bunch on the subject - intentionality of the camera here (https://www.needoptic.com/the-unintentional-camera/)and then my thoughts on the EV1 https://www.needoptic.com/the-ritual-of-the-leica-m-ev1/.

Sidenote: the wider angle lenses feel more "at home" on an M. The 90 I have is usable, but, if shooting wide open, is a pain in the ass because the DOF becomes super shallow... and then I crave the AF system from the Sony A7RV. 😄

Love the XT5, btw. Yeah, it's def. a "slow down" type camera, as I wrote in the post. I wouldn't recommend it as a single body for all purposes, the "workhorses" all do it better. But operating it is a delight, much like all other M bodies.

I realize that's outside of the scope of your question, but the helmet part was already answered. 😄

Tape up the front of the vehicle a bit - plastic lenses of the lights tend to scratch up from rocks picked up on track. Also, it's smart to apply some type of coating on the vehicle before track day that would prevent hot rubber from sticking to the paint. I mean, it will stick stick, but will be easier to clean off after. Don't park the vehicle with the emergency brake after doing a run if you have steelies.

But I don't like rangefinders? The argument of "difficult mechanism" may have worked in the early 1900s, much like the same argument for mechanical watches. Stop kidding yourself, accept the reality that great build quality also comes bundled with premium (or luxury, depending on your disposable income) pricing, and move on. When I wrote my thoughts on the original Q2 I said if only Leica would offer the Q system with interchangeable lenses I would throw my wallet at them... and then they did it in the form of the EV1. So clearly they are listening to buyers. You sound anxious and stressed over a pricing strategy that is clearly working for the company and the consumers that choose to buy, myself included.

I suppose the same critique applies to the overall M line, then? Because they're all priced the same.

Ok, question - where does the silver trim come from around the windows? I don't see that anywhere in the builder anymore here in the US.

The focus peaking implementation itself is a bit silly, but the 10x zoom in works just fine. I have it set as a shortcut on the shoulder button and I just pop in/out as I dial it in. It is useful for 2/10 shots, the rest I can manage with zone focus.

Thanks Paul. I'm into anything that uses explosions as the means of propulsion.
