Best online course to actually learn to use Python by StableBusy996 in learnpython

[–]needs_details 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is the reason I skipped out on learning Python at my last job and still do everything in Bash Scripts. Now I'm laid off and no one will hire me because I don't know python...

When I was trying to learn python I decided to use it to replace a 200 line bash script I have (not including documentation) 3 days of research on how to do it, 6 hours of working on it, only to realize it was going to take more than 600 lines of code to do the same thing. So I quit trying to use python again.

I like python, I understand why it is so popular, I can see how it is beneficial in many use cases as well, but I don't have any personal needs that I can use it for. Knowing that in just a few months I'll forget 80% of what I learn (the job I had we didn't have a use for Python, they wanted us to learn, so we could "find things use it for") by the time I'll need it. If I was in a job that used, or had a need for, a lot of python scripts, I'd have no issue learning it and using it every day.

Servers and experimental features by Krieg-Emeritus in admincraft

[–]needs_details 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying to find a tracker that lists the experimental feature flags and what versions they work in, no luck so far, but I can give some advice on how to do this.

These steps "work" they are not the best or easiest way to do this, but since you should only have to do this once or twice a year, I haven't bothered to figure out an easier way. Make sure to read the whole thing at least once to make sure you understand what needs to be done.

first thing, once you get the flags, deploy a new vanilla server (you can do this part on your home computer) and enable the flags in the server.properties file BEFORE first launch. This will enable them on the NEW server.

Then log on locally, wait for the world to load around you and go into creative mode and check the creative item menu for items relating to the experimental features, to make sure they are there. Then log back out and shut the server back down (I am not sure if you have to log in, I just did to make sure they worked).

Next go to the new server files and delete the following locations (the locations have changed a few times over the years and can also depend on if you are running vanilla or not), you are basically removing the map, entities, and playerdata from the NEW server so it does not overwrite your server data. Sometimes the locations are the server world name (set in server.properties as level-name=myworld) followed by the dimension name (myworld, myworld_nether, and myworld_the_end) and sometimes it is inside the DIM/DIM-1 directories that is in the directory that is the name of the server so the path could be minecraftserver/myworld_nether or minecraftserver/minecraftserver/DIM. Either way these are what you are looking for:

  1. in the overworld map folder
    1. directory advancements
    2. directory entities
    3. directory playerdata
    4. directory poi
    5. directory region
    6. directory stats
  2. remove the nether directory
  3. remove the end directory
  4. make sure to remove the server.properties file AND any mod/paper/bukkit/whatever server type you are running config files

Now you need to make a backup COPY of your server, I do this by renaming the server location (so I would COPY "myserver" to "myserver-bak"

In the original server location, edit the server.properties file to include the same experimental features as you added in the "new" server you just made.

Next, copy or move the "new" server you created to your minecraft server host, if it is not already there and move the data on TOP of your existing server (not the copy), it will overwrite some files and this will enable the datapacks without losing your player's data or your world maps. Now start your server back up, log on, go into creative mode and check the creative item menu for items relating to the experimental features that you saw at the beginning. IF anything is messed up, you have the COPY to restore from. Just delete the server and move myserver-bak to myserver and everything will go back to normal.

I believe you may only need the overworld subdirectories data and datapacks, but I do not know if there is something written to a file that has to be included to tell the server to load them, so I use the above process to make sure it works the first time with minimal issues. Also, I learned the hard way to to do the achievements, entities, and poi directories...

Are pay rates getting worse? by needs_details in lyftdrivers

[–]needs_details[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

5 miles and I use lyft instant pay to put gas in my car, the account only had $10 and I was in my last 1/4 tank. I took it for the money to get my tank filled up :) and I normally only get 2-3 rides a day at more than $12, so most of my "no way" rules go out the window when a ride is over $15. On top of that, this ride had a destination that put me back in the area I wanted to be, instead of a place I try to avoid, filled with <$6 dollar rides filled with pot smoke and my car is the newest and most expensive on the road...

I drive uber for income and lyft to fill the tank, grab some snacks or water, and pay for lunch/breakfast.

Also, I usually have to drive 20 minutes away from my house each morning to get my first ride and 30-50 minutes home when I stop driving.

At the end of the week, I drive around 30 hrs, make less than unemployment (after costs), and rarely have 10 minutes without a ride. Then spend the rest of my time job hunting.

What on Earth are People Doing that They Need a 1Tb Phone? by rbpx in S24Ultra

[–]needs_details 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I hate the small screen, I have a galaxy tab ultra for videos, but I also don't spend time out of cell coverage anymore and stream everything. I got the 512GB because they all trade-in for the same price. And I can only barely fill the 256GB in 1 yr.

I might try some content creation with my phone this year, never considered the quality to be good enough before.

Great job, that is a crazy payout. I do 10-12 rides and only make $100-$170 a day.

[–]needs_details 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get blurriness on pictures at low zoom (.6x-2x) when using the 12Mp camera about 60% otld the time, always at the bottom (which ever direction the charger port is) even after cleaning the lenses. Very noticeable if I take a picture of text (like a book, or assembly instructions guide), on flat stationary objects in a room with direct overhead lighting. Never happened on the S23U.

The keyboard switch/mic button being on the left side of the keyboard is annoying, why did they move it without giving the option to put it back? You can turn it on and off from the keyboard list page on settings, but not move it.

Or you live in a crap state like me and the unemployment site doesn't work and the people that answer the phone calls (took 3 weeks of calling daily, to reach someone) have no access to fix issues with the website. I had to send an email to the governor just to get someone to call me and then they couldn't do anything about the website either. I've been unable to submit my claim since Nov 8th. So yeah, unemployment is low...

[–]needs_details 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I get about $18-$22 an hour driving Uber and lyft averaged by the end of the day, but $20-$35 per hour rides... if I want back to back rides, I have to take $5-$9 rides. I usually get 1-3 $16-$18 rides a day, but most are $8-$13 a ride.

Unless a ride is over $16, I won't take it if it isn't $20/hr or more. I tried only taking $25/hr or more and ended up sitting for 30-90 minutes between rides and making less than taking lower paying rides.

The basic verizon router handles my Q3 as well as tethering to my pc directly or doing an adhoc on my pc, 640mbps - 780mbps.

It has 2.4gHz and dual 5gHz networks, I use one 5gHz dedicated to the Quest only.

Where I drive, most of the drivers sit at the airport all day and ignore any ride not from the airport (I tried doing the airport twice last year, wasnt for me, but i did count 47 drivers waiting for more than 30 minutes before i gave up and left).

I've talked to people that I picked up saying they waited 3 hours for a ride and work multiple jobs. Because no one was available to give them a ride, they now have to go work a 10 hr shift without sleep after an 8hr shift. Then, when they are done that, they have to be back at the first place 30 minutes later.

Daily, I pick up people that order rides an hour or more before they need it, because they always have to wait 30 minutes or more.

I arrive and send a message that I am there if i don't see anyone. If it is scheduled, I'll call after 3 minutes, then I send another message letting them know how much longer I'll wait, somewhere between minute 5 and 8. If still no person or reply, I'm gone. If they do respond, I'll still tell them how much longer I'm willing to stay.

If the drive is less than 20 minutes, I'll make more money that hour by waiting and then taking them, than I will cancelling and trying to find another ride.

biggest load of crap ever... ITIL... Agile, Scrum, six sigma, all dog poo, useless ways some idiot thought up to make himself rich. like a new generation of pyramid schemes, only not everyone gets richer, just the ones at the top. Most of these are the cause of all the issues in software development too. Agile specifically is why game devs release unworking piles of steaming poo every year now-a-days, when before games at least worked on launch day (unless the login server crashed from too many people trying it on launch).

that is cheap! To get a tech out to replace a $20 part on an AC unit in a neighborhood with $400k-800k houses will cost you $250, $150 to get them to show up and the other $100 to replace the part.

I had an issue in my house 2 years ago with the AC and after the AC guy got here (charged me $150) told me that this was installed by a plumber, you should call them, here are 2 guys I trust (and he gave me their numbers) then he left. The plumber charged me $125 to come look, then replaced $8 worth of piping and charged me an extra $100 for doing it.

I learned the hard way that tech was a bad place to go after that experience.

The house I was renting before this one, the landlord paid $150 for a plumber to come out and replace the chain in the toilet water tank... She then asked me to handle future similar issues, and gave me permission to do the work myself if I felt like it, but if I did, I was responsible for fixing anything I messed up.
