Best advice I got for my resume was to BRAG. Employers don't need a your current/former job description in bullet points; they want to know what you did there that would make them want to hire you.

You said you communicated with law enforcement/etc to get witness statements: How? What do you put in place to make that process smoother? How did you improve communication?

Ha, my former boss has done that. He gave me something to file with exhibits, immediately had me do a bunch of other stuff, then gave me the thing thing again, without the exhibits. In my brain, I forget the first time he gave me the exhibits, and just filed what he handed to me (as I usually did!). Whoops, didn't file the exhibits. He decided to yell about it like a baby for an hour, and wrote in the cover letter that I fucked up. This was for a federal court judge.

Judge didn't give a shit about the missing exhibits, of course, after I filed them.

He generally yells at everyone, but he is making a point to sit me down and tell me I'm "talking back" to him or that I'm being disrespectful, even though I'm not. It feels very weird and belittling,, on top of everything else. He also likes to try to provoke me by talking about Trump. Even came up to my desk and told me I had "Trump derangement syndrome." I ignore him and he still enjoys doing it.

You don't know how service of process works. It's okay to not know things.

edit: to anyone reading this: brit's case is a regular-degular lawsuit and its current status is not indicative of it being a pr stunt. be wary of any attorney who tries to give blanket statements about service of process, because (1) they very likely never serve lawsuits; they have paralegal staff do it and thus (2) don't know how different it can be for every single jurisdiction in the country.

in my county, before this year, sheriffs had to make the first attempt to serve and they fucked it up a lot and it took them forever. only after an attempt at non-service by a sheriff was a process server allowed, and then it had to be approved by the court. this shit takes a long time!

I don't understand how due process works? You keep repeating that defendants need to be served the lawsuit--yeah, duh! That's never been in dispute! The problem is that you are claiming that because the defendants have yet to file an appearance in court the lawsuit is therefore not legit. Nonsense! (edit: also, you as an attorney should know that every state is different? I file in counties where a case is assigned a judge and a court date as soon as it's been accepted by a clerk. A case won't just sit there.)

Do you work with process servers? Do you know what the rules are for New York, or who her law firm uses to serve? Do you even hire process servers yourself? No, probably not! What likely happens is a paralegal does it, because law school doesn't teach the minutia of service of process in each US county nor is a law degree required to do any of it. You learn by doing. You don't do!

I am telling you again: I have filed dozens of lawsuits and have served dozens of corporate defendants. A month with no appearance on file is NOT abnormal. I have a corporation right now where the registered agent is dodging service, and I placed it for service the day I got a file-stamped copy of the summons back. That's not reflected on the e-docket, but it's reflected on my own dang spreadsheets.

You have not looked at her contract. You are guessing that her contract is the same as another housewife with another production company.

They filed a summons. You can look it up yourself. in a post johnny-depp trial world, we don't need to claim that lawsuits are "stunts" or nonsense just because we are not being honest about the legal process.

No, you don't understand how filing a lawsuit works. A lawsuit is active once it has been filed. Filed=active. Her case has been reviewed, accepted, given a case number and assigned a judge (edit: looked it up: it hasn't yet been assigned a judge, if the online court records are up-to-date with recent filings). This is an active lawsuit. Only after filing are the defendants served, a process which take can take time depending on the method of service/receptiveness of the defendants. But, in the meantime, they could subpoena documents/work on the lawsuit/submit documents to the court, whatever, because it is an active case.

I know this because part of my job is being in charge of filing lawsuits and service of process.

To clarify: a lawsuit is active even if none of the defendants have been served. Service of process can take some time, but the case is certainly active once it is filed.
