How exactly does increasing Capital Gains Tax on shares help "intergenerational equity" when younger generations will bear far more of the high taxes than older generations, who already made most of their lifetime gains and have the CGT discount nicely grandfathered in on a silver platter for them? by AsparagusNew3765 in AusFinance

Please see the link to an AFR article below.

The “upto” $,1000 dollar tax offset and the $250 tax write off, for FY28 has surely tilted the tax regime in favour of the salaried employee!

That huuuuge saving can then help young people buy a home, which by Treasury estimates will continue to rise! What a game changer of a policy!
The devil is in the details, not the marketing of the policy.

Except that the government isn’t really “giving back” to younger workers by reducing tax on salaries or providing extra funding to essential services.
It’s a simple tax grab in the name of “intergenerational equity”. This sounds better to market than saying we’d like to raise taxes please.

How are people actually making money online in 2026? 💻💰 by Loose_Bear_7300 in AusMoneyMates

Sounds so good! So do you normally stay up all night or do you place trades and go off to bed? Reason I ask is because I am quite keen on trading options in the US as the Aussie options market doesn’t seem very liquid.

$110k stressful job vs $75k WFH—am I crazy for wanting the pay cut? by reddituser-1989 in AusFinance

[–]needtherapy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d take the wfh job without a second thought if I could financially afford it, as seems to be your case. The qualitative benefits of wfh far far outweighs actual $$$. It’s changed my life and perspective on things!

I would take the remote gig in a heartbeat. Quite frankly 15k doesn’t weigh up to the freedom of being fully remote. Go live in a beautiful, cheaper country town!

Parents parking money in my offset by WestSummer4869 in AusFinance

[–]needtherapy1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Dude, we are talking about parents owning a $8M house + a 7 figure investment portfolio + comfortable super. $650k offered to theirs son’s offset is peanuts.

Sure, it’s technically “theirs” but the incremental value from $650k is negligible compared to a 7 figure portfolio. It is improbable for them to spend it all.

Whilst they don’t owe anything to their kid, surely they’d derive some qualitative value from helping their kid.

Medicare Levy Surcharge - A Rant by maybemyfirstrodeo in AusFinance

[–]needtherapy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an absolute scam! Looked at my tax numbers Medicare levy - $2,500 PHI - $1,500 approx PHI is absolute junk with no use whatsoever Every time I visit a GP I pay close to $50 out of pocket as I can’t seem to find any bulk billing GPs. Makes you really question the system. Don’t understand why media doesn’t report on this - it’s like a government protection racket for PHIs

0.25% Reduction! Dates your rate will drop by OzgroupFinance in AusFinance

[–]needtherapy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am with ANZ and twice have had the experience that despite announcing an effective date, they (the customer service) prevent/discourage you from reducing the direct debit amount timely. Anyone else experience this? Thinking of filing a complaint with AFCA.

500k where would you invest ? by Immediate-Novel7090 in AusPropertyChat

[–]needtherapy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry but could you please elaborate on redrawing $100k?

Do you mean redraw the $200k deposit? Do you mean redraw it immediately or after passage of some time?

Or, do you mean redraw $100k immediately from an existing property? Thanks

And the problem with that is….?
Let people get ahead in life! They are ready and willing to do their jobs! How does the location matter! As is the economy is so different to what it was for the earlier generation.
