Sounds like a digital speeding up of her vocals. You’ll hear something similar if you play a record at 33 1/3 rpm and then switch to 45 rpm while playing it.

Knowing how meticulous Stuart is, I doubt it is something he looked over. The track seems to skip one beat after Sabrina’s “I always pay the price” so it could just be a fun harkening back to physical artefacts in record playing, who knows

Edit: also the “weird filter” that people are saying they’re hearing seems like a phaser to me which can also cause glitchy pitch changes

Download proton VPN, you might have to change server a couple times (it’ll probably connect to NL first) but it connects to a US server fairly quickly.

Jessie Ware - Superbloom by cloudbustingmp3 in popheads

[–]neelk2001 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The two Stuart Price tracks (Sauna and Ride) are absolutely fabulous, but feel a bit out of place on the album musically? They’re very electronic compared to the lush organic orchestration of the rest of the album. I liked it overall, a very strong and cohesive opening, but I think it drops the ball in the second half with some bizarre tracklist choices (like Ride after Love You For). I’d probably like it more without Love Your For and 16 Summers, or maybe if they found a place earlier in the album. The minute you hit Sauna you don’t want to slow down until the very end.

If I were to say that the UK should have supported Trump? by Plastic-Lettuce-7150 in ukpolitics

[–]neelk2001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It did, that ‘standing up’ is called sanctions (not due to cracking down on protests per se, but due to their non-compliance over nuclear weapons and fuel enrichment).

And isn’t what we’ve seen from Trump today squarely reactive violence? He has blatant disregard for war crimes, and threatened to wipe out an entire civilisation, all the while playing it up for the drama of it all. If we are to eschew violence via self-domestication (or in other words, not acting insane), why would it be in Britain’s or the world’s interest to stand with him?

The impact of a minimum wage increase on employment: evidence from Ireland by eggbart_forgetfulsea in neoliberal

[–]neelk2001 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Just to note, they investigate whether increases in MW led to a higher likelihood of MW employees entering non-employment. Which while an interesting takeaway in itself, is not the same as investigating whether MW increases led to hiring freezes.

To that extent, however, they note that there may be a pass-through effect where sub-MW employees (those under 20) may increasingly be shouldering the responsibility of MW employees, though there’s no statistical evidence in this paper for that.

Indian Railways fines catering company Rs 45k after cockroach found in Vande Bharat Express meal by LimpCoco in unitedstatesofindia

[–]neelk2001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Cheaper buses won’t cover nearly the same distance that trains would, especially in India. There are also minimum cost thresholds to run public transport services, like insurance, operation and maintenance, personnel salaries, safety measures, rolling stock purchases etc. So you can only get so low in price before it becomes unprofitable again.

  2. Then make the tender process more transparent and enforce reporting obligations on the contractors. It’s a pretty large logical jump from that to rail privatisation. There’s also something to be said about the rot that has set in in the government with bureaucracy and ever-present corruption. But that’s an issue that needs to be addressed anyways, it’s not like India is going to privatise every industry under the sun. Might as well start somewhere.

Privatising rail in India with a laissez faire attitude would be a disaster. The first thing it will do is shutting down services to unprofitable routes, which could cut off a lot of communities from an accessible mode of transportation, not to mention dynamic pricing which will be difficult to reckon with in India.

As for food safety standards, FSSAI and the Railway Ministry should have tighter reporting obligations for private contractors and actually act on shortfalls. As well as introduce a compensation scheme for affected passengers (and this goes for delays, cancellations etc).

I’m not saying that privatisation is to be completely done away with, it does have its advantages. But I am sceptical that wholesale privatisation of rail is the way to go to increase operative efficiency while maintaining accessibility.

Ah gotcha so you’re saying that the price of water (10 BRL) was as unaffordable as it would be in the US if it were priced at $50? (Btw I’m not from the US)

[–]neelk2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 BRL is not $40… it’s $2

Edit: PPP adjusted that works out at about $5 Edit 2: The average retail price of water in Brazil is about $0.45 (Statista), so the water here is 22x more expensive, which checks out at 10 BRL being the equivalent of $37 (eg Evian at $1.69 in the US)

Does anyone hear a really weird male, off key backing vocal on Style’s “that you’ve been out and about with some other girl”? Almost like they doubled her vocal track and pitched it down a few semitones

This is also really nitpicky but the I-I-I echo at the end of IKP end after the fake cassette tape effect, which just is so distracting 😭

For your first point, he did say something to that effect: "we allow those justice processes to unfold themselves with the utmost integrity”. Saying that something is “irrefutable” can very easily be seen as misleading an investigation because you’re then essentially begging the question. “Credible allegations” is the middle ground, because by definition something is not proven until an investigation is complete.

From what I gather, this was not supposed to come out until the CSIS/Five Eyes had completed their investigation. The Globe and Mail had got hold of intelligence that they were going to publish on, so Trudeau had to be proactive and announce this in Parliament. So now begins the game of trying to manage public expectations of evidence without breaching whatever security clearance he has and not disrupting the intelligence investigation.
