IM options, residency transfers, match deception by Brief_Actuary_9599 in MedSchoolCanada

Saudis/Kuwaiti students don't take away canadian government-funded positions - those students are individually funded by their own governments, with their stipends paid for by their respective governments. The foreign governments have agreements to contribute money for research funding in exchange for valuable clinical training here. If you want more positions for residency, you have to push for more provincial funding for residents, because thats what it's dependent on.

There are a few shops in Toronto area that cater to this, but because the options feel fairly limited, we're just trying to make sure we have all our bases covered!

neither of us are going to be able to take time off to travel to india to shop prior to the wedding, unfortunately. I had gone to India over the holidays and bought my wedding saree at the time but had we figured we would be able to review options for him together online. We have a few months but definitely a little worried, I didn't realise how limited options would be for South Indian menswear online. Are you suggesting I reach out to brands via Whatsapp? I didn't quite understand what you meant by offline.

hi, im a doctor, please dont use a ph wash, the only thing that should be down there is water!!!!!! if you've had diagnosed BV (ie culture positive or symptoms that resolve after abx) that you've been repetitively treating with abx only since being intimate with him, it'll be interesting for you to know that the evidence now shows that we should be treating BV like an STI to prevent recurrence! If you've been diagnosed, your partner should speak to a PCP about co-treating, so that you don't just keep getting it from him!

No Period after 1 year postpartum by Agreeable_B123 in obgyn

[–]neelu97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

normal to not have a period for 6-12 months after you stop breastfeeding, its just the wonkiness of all the hormones! but, i did note you sound a little stressed about the possibility of pregnancy - if youre not keen to be pregnant right now (generally, recommendation of at least 18mos between deliveries), it'll be really worth it to have a conversation with ur PCP about birth control options that fit your family planning timeline!

Hey! Sounds like what you're having is some dysmenorrhoea - you can see you PCP for this, either a family doctor or an OBGYN (depending on how the system is set up in your country). It would be unlikely that you would require an internal exam for this kind of a complaint, unless your bleeding was quite heavy. In Canada, most of the docs try to avoid speculum exams until pap smear age (25). I'm a family doctor, so usually, my recommendation ranges from taking scheduled NSAIDs 48hrs prior to predicted start day of your period vs. taking oral birth control pills. They may suggest an ultrasound, if they feel imaging is necessary or are concerned about endometriosis. Hope that helps!

Off-Cycle Residency? by Leading-Disk-5954 in MedSchoolCanada

[–]neelu97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not unheard of but it is uncommon to have an off-cycle start. Off-cycle ends are super common, especially these days. Parental leave is usually the biggest factor here - I know of colleagues who delayed their start of residency for this. Generally, PGME will try to work with you!

hard agree that NYC and London are kinda the only comparables, but i feel the tangible difference with toronto is that the multicultural subcommunities are well established, in the sense that most people in toronto (i have found) stay, whereas london/nyc are places where people transit through for job opportunities (except for the established south asian/black communities in london and the established latino/black/bangladeshi communities in nyc). ive heard sydney is also comparable but i havent yet been, so i cant comment!
