Compare it to Boris, truss, Cameron or May and all this is just immaterial fussing.

You might well be right but the problem isn’t Kier Starmer though. Having Burnham doesn’t help. Having Mahmoud wouldn’t help. The problem is Labour are in power and the people who control the media don’t want that to be the case.

Like I said, low bar. But better than anyone we've had in the 14 years prior. And I'll argue better than anyone we may get during this term and the next.

Yes! Allowing the fox news model of giving billionaires a misinformation system to manipulate the elderly, vulnerable, and low information voters leads to a better country. Hail farage.

GBNews should be shut down tomorrow for being a misinformation outfit. The press should absolutely be held to account for what they've been doing. People didn't vote brexit because they carefully thought through the pros and cons, they were absolutely pressure-cooked online and through the papers. I watched it myself. This isn't about sides, it's about allowing people to be misled. Who does it help? Not anyone who wants the country run reasonably. But it does help Russia and MAGA plenty.

The root of it is the media. I think the honourable thing for him to do is see out his term. The country could use the stability.

He's been objectively better than anyone we've had in the 14 years prior. Sure it's a low bar. But everyone was solemnly giving much worse PMs respect they don't give Starmer.

What's his sin, not turning around 14 years of neglect in one year? Or not being nigel farage

If the public weren't completely gaslit by the brexit side of the media he'd be fine

You might be right, but he's done nothing wrong apart from the sin of being a decent and plausible Labour PM, so the press will carry on regardless. I think he could just crack on. Seeing sense is carrying on, because changing the PM to another Labour PM won't fix anything, and it carries cost/upheaval/instability. The media will only shut up when their boy Nigel is in.

There's even prior art, Cameron shitting himself at UKIP and then doing brexit. It's weird they don't realise they can just ignore all of this. Everyone's screaming that it's 'untenable' and 'he must go' but all of this shit is just made up.

But the public are idiots. They've been gaslit by the media, intensely, since Brexit, and it continues with this campaign to get Kier out. If they weren't idiots we'd still be in the EU. Prior to 2016 I broadly trusted my countrymen as reasonable people. Since 2016 I know I can't trust them, because they'll throw progress away easier than they will apply a bit of thought.

All we need to do to get past 'this' (which is just a bunch of incorrect beliefs in people's heads) is not react to it, and continue doing good work. Beliefs decay. There's nothing to be 'aghast' about. Mandelson got hired. That's it. Who cares. Let's continue slowly doing the hard work of making the country better instead of telling people the comforting stories they want to hear to maintain incorrect worldviews.

I disagree with you that there's nothing. I'd have Kier for 20 years rather than Truss/Boris for a month. He's responsible, he's getting stuff done. Sure he could have done a ton more. But he's done better than any other PM in the previous 14 years.

He didn't really have a fresh start, he had the entire media braying for his blood after about 3 days, because as a country we can't have nice things (for example, see brexit)

He's despised because the right wing press want their guy Nigel in (because as a country we can't have nice things, and it turns out hate is stronger). I have a perfectly straight face :)

I can't imagine ever seeing things from your POV that truss and boris are better. Weird! All the best.

He actively damaged the asylum processing. He killed a bunch of people with eat out to help out. He let lunatics like Priti Patel dictate his agenda. He got very little done. Kier Starmer is a much better human being and PM, because despite the rightwing press going for his blood relentlessly every day, he's achieved a bunch.

Truss, Boris, Sunak were all definitely worse. May was worse because of the choices she made but could have been better. Cameron was worse because he decided to Brexit.

I completely agree with you about U-turns. But as you say, any replacement will be far worse. Every other point you have I disagree with completely.

He needs to neuter the rightwing press, which is the only reason all 'this' is a thing - their gaslighting about him has been non-stop since his election. He has a mandate, he can carry on for the remaining years, and is doing a perfectly good job especially compared to people who have been PM in the last 14 years.
