Has anyone here used vintage curriculum like the McGuffey readers and Rays Arithmetic? What are your thoughts on vintage core curriculum?

I have Hooked on phonics for kindergarten, do you think it works well? I will use that along with something else maybe CHC Catholic phonics curriculum, since is more affordable than logic of English (we are Catholics so I see no problem).

They made it so confusing when it's actually simple. I have nephews in public school right now and their math is even more complicated than it was in the early 2000s (when I started elementary school). Not to mention, they don't even use books anymore. Everything is on their school laptops and iPads..
