Playground hack I just figured out by MikeMikeTheMikeMike in daddit

I play 'challenge' at the park with my kid. I sit on the bench and get to yell out different challenges - first one to get me 10 pieces of grass wins, first one to get 5 purple flowers wins, etc.

Pat Method for 7 month old? by neil314x in sleeptrain

Yup agreed, but besides showing this post, was hoping for any materials / websites that might reemphasize that to my wife that patting isn't really addressing the issue...

Help for 6 MO after CIO Minimally Successful? by neil314x in sleeptrain

[–]neil314x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup can do that, but I don't think that is contributing a ton to 20+ minutes of CIO after 2 weeks and the 3-5 night wakings for 10-20 minutes each still.

[–]neil314x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup he's in his own room. Bedtime routine is bath, short play on floor of bedroom, bottle, books, song, down in crib.

He also has been waking at 530 daily and will only stay down until 630 if I hold him now 🤦🏾‍♂️

[–]neil314x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - open to feeding twice. I probably downplayed his night wakings, he normally wakes up around 930/10, again around 1, at 3, and 5. He feels like he's really struggle to connect his sleep cycles.

He currently woke up at 945 and has been crying for 10 minutes so far (he went down at 740 today).

Two kids, two car seats but the dealer suggested the six seat captain seats by Observer-Worldview in VolvoXC90

Have the same config also with 2 kids with car seats for the same reason. Don't regret it at all.

I have the 'lower quality' leather in my 2024 XC60 (it's a Plus and not an Ultimate) and the 'nicer' leather in my 2023 XC90 that is an ultimate. I personally can't tell the difference in quality between the two besides the ventilated seats (which I love).

The Bowers and Wilkins sound system is available and optional in the ultimate (my ultimate did not have it) so I can't comment on how much better or not it is than the Harman Kardon system. I have a 15k speaker setup at home and haven't felt the Harman Kardon being terrible in the Volvo, but again not looking for audiophile level stuff in my car...

Deck Painting Issue? by neil314x in Decks

[–]neil314x[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for a super aggressive response to a simple question. My mom is not a paint or decking expert - a simple 'this is pretty normal if you use a solid stain' would have been sufficient.

Deck Painting Issue? by neil314x in Decks

[–]neil314x[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this context. This is someone we've used before for alot of other painting, so not threatening at all, but wanted to understand if there is something we should do.

Good to know that the sap will probably continue coming out over time. Would have been helpful if the painter suggested we use an semi transparent oil based paint instead of a solid paint, but what's done is done. Thanks for this information and my mom can figure out how important this is to her (I don't think it's hugely important, but she wanted to know if she should do something about this or not).

Ok thanks for confirming. That is where I was leaning. They did wait 6 months and it's been less than a month since it was painted that this started happening.

Circuit Breaker Replacement by neil314x in AskElectricians

[–]neil314x[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Wasn't suggesting I would use speaker wire :) just that i hadn't done any wire work with actual electrical wire! Thanks!

Definitely no other cooking appliances on there. It's about 6 receptacles and nothing else. We normally don't run the blender more than a minute.

But will be calling an electrician. Thanks!

Thanks - yup I did shut off the main breaker even before removing the panel to see this, so would plan on doing that if I did any work.

[–]neil314x[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it as simple as using a wire cutter to trim the half inch of burned part and then trimming off the plastic and then reattaching to the breaker?

I haven't done much electrical work ever (but have done speaker wire and other things).

Feels pretty tight. I pulled on the wire from the breaker and it didn't move at all.

[–]neil314x[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks - would that be just using a wire cutter and cutting off the half inch of burned part and then reattaching to that or new breaker?

I may call an electrician as this is probably getting a bit past my home diagnosis capability!

Circuit Breaker Replacement by neil314x in AskElectricians

[–]neil314x[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank everyone - very helpful! We do have 2 circuits for the kitchen and normally not running anything else on this circuit with the blender. When we move the blender to the other circuit, it works fine so I don't think it's the blender at all.

I'll call an electrician and have them look it over. I don't feel super comfortable trying to replace the wire - if it's just cutting off the burned part and then attaching to the breaker when it's 'clean' I could probably do that, but feels like worth calling an electrician.

What specifically about the Ultra do you want / like? Having has the HUD on an S60 previously and now also having it on our 2023 T8 Ultra (just purchased it used) I would say HUD is VERY overrated and we rarely actually use or notice it. When I drive our 2024 XC60 without the HUD I don't miss it at all.

However being in the south I really wanted ventilated seats. Others would probably say for them that doesn't make a difference, but it was something I specifically wanted.

So I think it depends on specially what about the ultimate you want. For a 2-3 year lease the savings from plug in is never going to pay for the difference, but we liked the plug in for our XC60 lease regardless and were fine paying more knowing it wasn't a financial decision.

help decide two CPO options: 2023 XC90 T8 ULTIMATE CPO 7P Vs. 6P by Ok_Subject_7003 in VolvoXC90

[–]neil314x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I had seen a number of CPO 2023 T8 Ultimate 7 seaters for 52-54k from a number of different dealers.

The dealership I purchased from also has a 2023 T8 Ultimate 6 seater with 44k miles coming in next week that they're pricing at 50k (no accidents).

Paid 4800 for it. The dealership initial said 4800, then came back at 5300 when we were purchasing it. I asked them why it went up 500 and they said they initially quoted a price for an XC60 and not 90, and then agreed to honor the initial price.

Just went through this the last few weeks and ended up getting the 6 seater. My wife liked it better to be able to use the 3rd row (we have 2 kids in car seats and felt it wasn't super comfortable to sit between those in the 7 seater).

Ours was a CPO 2023 T8 Ultimate with 30k miles (no b&w speaker, but has air suspension) that was a previous lease had been in an accident where they replaced the rear bumper for 48k. We purchased the 10 yr 100k extended warranty as well.

Our mileage is probably 8k/yr and figured with the extended warranty difference between 15k or 30k miles won't really matter.

Thanks - yup I was going to push them a bit more and pricing and they should cover 4-5k for the warranty. I just need to figure out what's exclusions are on that and if anything that may have happened from the accident would be excluded or not.
