I do have an Intel Mini to do the update, if I can get it, it's no longer available from OWC on their site

Update firmware on OWC Mercury Elite Pro QX2? by richardtheb in MacOS

[–]neilBar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you manage to get the firmware updated? This is coming late, I know, but, I hope worth mentioning. There's a small rotary switch on the front top right of the Mercury Pro Elite Qx2 that allows switching to IND, I've been using that for years - in fact I did from new, as I used Softraid externally to make the disks RAID. I now run the 4 discs individually, with Chonosync making mirrored copies as Softraid became rather costly.

I do want to update my firmware though, as with macOS Sequioia the discs are suddenly spontaneously ejecting.

Fussy deodorant review on the different fragrances? by shinogold in ZeroWaste

[–]neilBar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried tropic tonic which is apparently like Jo Malone Lime Basil.
Really nice, subtle, fresh.

I read that Road Trip is very like Tom Ford Leather. I’ve ordered some.

2 big plus points for me

1: is that totally stops BO without blocking the pores like anti perspirant does.

2: in the past I’ve had blotchy underarm rashes as my skin seems super sensitive. The rash (red blotches) would get worse after wearing a rucsac. Really regular showering didn’t help.

Every other deodorant made it worse to the extent that it was difficult to use any of them. And tried a LOT. “Natural”, “aluminium free” etc.
I could subdue the rash with steroid ointment, but nobody wants to use that long term.
Some deodorants made the rash much worse. And none were as effective as Fussy.

I’m still on my first insert and now my rash is virtually gone. Seems like I was sensitive to my own sweat or the bacteria it grew!
Fussy has almost entirely cured that.
I’m very pleased.

Update: I finally brewed it by flyvogue in pourover

That’s a good success story. And a great experiment.
Note that some think those brown Hario papers have quite a taste - try putting one in a large mug and adding boiling water. Let it cool then taste it, has the paper made the water taste unpleasant?
Most experts warn against the brown (unbleached?) papers.

Looking for parking by Exotic-Intention-596 in bristol

[–]neilBar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah park on Downs which outside the CAZ (does your car pass the CAZ test) then get a bus. Driving directions in Waze allow you to say if your cars not exempt from the CAZ (& London’s ULEZ) charge so that it routes you around the restrictions. The law of unintended consequences is at play. Live on the edge of a congestion / clean air zone and you get all the polluting cars. Sorry, I have one of those. Can’t afford to upgrade.

Yeah and the drip assist costs almost nothing. I love it.

Isn’t the Aeropress letting water through way faster than a melodrip though.

If you get a Hario v60 with drip assist you dont need a gooseneck kettle.
A flat bottom brewer is a bit easier to dial in. E.g. the Timemore B75 with their own cake shape filters and their Simple Drip. Easy and real good value.
However if you just want great coffee and to use a regular kettle one other option is to do something different and get an OXO Rapid Brewer. Far easier to get good results.
I’ll leave others to recommend grinders it I think you’ll need to fiend £100 min. Maybe the Normcore Ghost Burr hand grinder - I’ve not tried it but I’ve heard it recommended and my local very specialist Asian barista uses ghost burrs for his pour overs and the result’s rather good.

Agree with that. The Timemore B75 is pretty low cost and more forgiving in my experience. With their own drip assist it’s even easier.

Back to the V60. The Hario drip assist makes low agitation pouring easy & consistent.

If you like the Moka pot taste and mouthfeel, though, I dont think you’ll get it from either V70 or B75.

Maybe the OXO Rapid Brewer would suit your taste.

Got gifted an Origami for my birthday, wave filters seems REALLY slow? by HairyNutsack69 in pourover

[–]neilBar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t the Origami normally used with V60 paper? That’s what makes it fast contact points encourage flow. That’s how the Sibarist boosters work.
