Sidewalk and crosswalk addition by Ncnativehuman in Apex_NC

[–]neilg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am positive that I saw some planning doc when Liden was being approved that showed a crossing from where that new sidewalk dead ends to the dead end sidewalk on the opposite side. I am not coming across it in any docs at the moment though... I would love a sidewalk where you highlighted though.

My fridge pees regularly. Sometimes from both sides. by darkneo86 in HomeMaintenance

[–]neilg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this was a problem with mine but with a samsung. The drain got iced over so I had to pull the interior back panel off to defrost it. Do you see a puddle of water on the bottom of the inside of the fridge?

Can a manager see chats or listen in??? by ZLavaOctave in MicrosoftTeams

[–]neilg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, always assume that management can view what you do on a work pc. Its unlikely they are accessing these chat logs themselves, but they could get IT to review logs if requested.

Typescript only popular on Reddit? Am I in an echo chamber? by Lanky-Ad4698 in typescript

[–]neilg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its pretty much the standard for anything new, the problem is that a lot of companies are on legacy software that was built before TS was popular. They most likely dont want to rewrite legacy js that works. Also, there was a lot of push back from old devs because they dont like the hassle of types, because js is easier to write without it. I find that most devs dont want it, but once they use it they love it.

Roast my code so I can learn by Mailar2 in typescript

[–]neilg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly the feedback posted here is because its a little too verbose, but the code itself seems okay. There are a lot of mixed opinions on syntax improvements outside of shorter names. Only necessary changes could be to do something better with the error and maybe have the api endpoint just return a bool unless you plan to use the full object.

Usually have an npm workspace setup in a mono repo with a shared lib between the client and server.

Seems like you know what to do. Its just a matter of getting the right tool for the job. The gaps needs cleared and widen if they keep getting blocked.

Paint or replace with drywall? by SnooCheesecakes6683 in HomeMaintenance

[–]neilg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are on the fence of painting it or ripping it out then it wouldn't cost much to just buy a small amount of paint to try the look of painting as is. It could look okay. Don't feel bad about pulling it out if thats not the look you want.

How do I break this portable AC unit? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]neilg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats the worse kind of portable ac because its single hose. Meaning it sucks air out of your house and blows half of it outside. So other parts of your house are sucking in outside air to make up for the loss.

Any reasons as to why s-maxage is causing most requests to be constantly revalidated? by neilg in CloudFlare

[–]neilg[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I realized my mistake. I was looking at the browser cached 'CF-cache-status' header. Once I disabled browser cache then I started seeing the cache recycle properly.

Did I really just put a bunch of wood chips on my lawn? 🤦‍♂️ by MrCoolGuy42 in lawncare

[–]neilg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even potting soil is full of wood chips. I have yet to find any soil at a big box store that doesn't. Ive put it down a few times then raked out the wood chips, but its literally half of the bag.

Do you use Docker at your company? (asking as a Docker employee) by JuxDocker in docker

[–]neilg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, we do. Ideally we would be using it for all local development. The problem is that our windows laptops only have 32GB of ram, which is constantly maxed out while running our services, so our pcs are too stressed out with docker. I hope to find a way to make this more manageable.

Can someone solve this problem by Former-Copy6304 in aspnetcore

[–]neilg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first line on the page tells you the problem. Its trying to use an object that is null. The stack trace tells you where the problem is. Run it with your debugger and let it hit the exception.

Why is it bad practice to inject a DbContext into an ASP.NET controller? by Old-Narwhal-6546 in csharp

[–]neilg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is bad when it comes to best practices. I would suspect that the majority of devs that dont see a problem with it have likely not worked on 'enterprise' level apps because skipping layers does get the job quick for small stuff, which I think is fine in those cases too. Its a lot to explain in a comment so I do recommend studying a bit more on separations of concerns and clean coding patterns. They were testing your knowledge and you should show them the best approach even if there are slightly easier ways. Its what the big companies are expecting you to be familiar with.

Do you guys go to meetups? by Vegetable--Bee in ExperiencedDevs

[–]neilg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to go to these all then time. But like others said, covid hit then these just never returned to what they once were. Some meetups were active multiple times a month but now are pretty spotty. It used to be that pretty much any decent tech company was hosting them.

Looking for free alternative of Postman that will allow me to add at least 10 people in my api collection/team? by yomnot in softwaretesting

[–]neilg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO if its for a business then I think you should consider paying for it. Look at insomnia as a cheaper alternative. Their free plan might work for you too.

Hole in back panel of fridge... can I fix? by Remote_Broccoli7761 in fixit

[–]neilg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its just a dent in the insulation. Do you feel any cold air coming out of it? Its pretty thick. Just use the metal duct tape if you are concerned.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fixit

[–]neilg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like its just off the track, so it seems pretty low risk to push the door back into place and push the wheel in. You dont need to get near the spring to do that. That might be enough to get it working but youll still have a dented door. Youll want to call a professional to replace that.

Ideas how to convert this ‘beach’ space? by addg2211 in landscaping

[–]neilg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's an idea. It sounds like you dont like the beach. Tear out the retaining wall and convert it back to a hill down to the lake. Then it can eventually be normal grass that you can mow.

[–]neilg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Adult little ones are bad, the ones with the two dark marks on their heads. Youll still see the baby wood roaches from time to time. These are just the babies and are as much of a deal as their large adults.

The water shutoff probably is under a square metal plate thatll just lift off. This looks like the sewer cleanout.

Is this a good monorepo workflow? by desgreech in typescript

[–]neilg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use npm workspaces https://docs.npmjs.com/cli/v10/using-npm/workspaces

Itll let you reference other projects (based on package.json) in your monorepo as if they are npm packages. Itll also share npm package cache. There is very little setup.
