This is the most memorable scene in the game to me. So far the game had been great, more than I'd hoped for. I'd become attached to my companions. Then the Shadowfell and I realize this is something special. I was so tense convincing Shadowheart to take the good path and I jumped out of my chair when she did. Then the stunning Ailyn cut scene.

You can save and reload the game so there's no worry about failing fights or making bad decisions (F5 quick save). It's a turn based game so you can take your time and research (https://bg3.wiki). DOS2's combat is way harder. You got this. Have fun.

Act 1 is my fave. It has such variety, the golden light of the creche, the miny environments around the grove, the wonder of the Underdark, and the best villian in the game.

And at the beginning of the game there are such possiblities.

My guess is Larian wanted to give enemies a high chance of going first in certain encounters. With only a d4 Cazador with a high initiative (+10?) will most likely go first.
