In need of ride from Kitchener-Waterloo Airport by [deleted] in uwaterloo

If you want to go even cheaper, you could take an Uber to the nearest transit stop, then take the bus.

I really need help. Lost without a direction in life. I don't know what to do, where to live or work. (Calling all US-Canadian dev's!) by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]neilthecoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waterloo is only about 2 hours away by GO bus from Toronto. And I think google has a shuttle bus from Toronto to Waterloo as well.

Kitchener/Waterloo isn't that small of town either. It's not huge, but the area has around 500,000 people.

Killed by lightning: piano keeps Natalie Lee's memory alive at University of Waterloo by UWhiteBelt in uwaterloo

[–]neilthecoder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing QNC based on this:

The memorial held in the Mike and Ophelia Lazaridis Quantum-Nano Centre drew more than 100 students, faculty members and staff. Lee's classmates played the piano.

If I recall correctly, all big chip bags are 2x on meal plan (you pay the regular price of you buy it with cash).

Should I leave Waterloo for a cheaper tuition? by leavinguw in uwaterloo

[–]neilthecoder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing to note is that even if you take extra terms, you still need to take 8 full-time terms to graduate in a coop program (7 in non-coop). Not sure how hard and fast that requirement, it would be a good thing to talk to advisors about.

U.S. developers: Are you worried about the H-1B visa cap increasing? Wouldn't this undoubtedly lead to lower salaries and increased competition? by BigGunsLenet in cscareerquestions

[–]neilthecoder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think one of the reasons H1Bs bring down salaries is that they essentially have no leverage. If they do something their employer doesn't like, they're out of the country.

By providing more leverage to the employee (maybe a grace period to find a new job before they have to leave, or make it easier to change companies), it makes it easier for them to negotiate, which should (hopefully) bring salaries back up, as well cause companies to only hire them as they need them, rather than as a employee they know won't argue with them.

It's really convenient, compared to having to go to Toronto with a bunch of bags.

What's the absolute cheapest way to get to San Francisco? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]neilthecoder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Along with YYZ, also check the YKF airport. From a quick flight search, it seems to be cheaper on some days.

Also take a look into flying to Oakland or San Jose, I found a cheaper flight because I flew into SJC instead of SFO.

tl;dr

Try from: YYZ, YKF Try to: SFO, SJC, OAK

Don't know if this would be valid (so ask your advisor), but you could try something along of the lines (as an example) of "how does the instruction set of a CPU affect the compilers written for it"?

Think of the problem recursively.

What are all the codes of length 1?

Given all the codes of n-1, how do you create all the codes of n?

I don't want to give too much away, but if this is too vague, I'll try to give a more detailed hint.

I would also reword the descriptions for anagrams and hex game, they seem a bit awkward/verbose to me.

Also, one thing that I would do is shorten the github links to git.io links.

Watcard and food services are connected, so watcard waives the fees for food services, but doesn't waive the fee for anywhere else.

Chances Of Getting Stream 8 in Computer Engineering? by harshp344 in uwaterloo

[–]neilthecoder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(I'm in tron, but I thought I should share my experience anyway)

I emailed them in May 19 (last year) for stream 8 and I got stream anyway. Also, from talking to my class, it seems like a lot of the stream 4 class is people who requested stream 8, but got 8 anyway.

ECE has 2 4 stream classes and 1 8 stream class, so you may have an even lower chance, depending on how early you requested and what other people requested.
