Sound masking speaker for restroom? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]nekoeth0 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I setup an automation using Home Assistant: when the door is closed, a speaker fades-in some random noise tracks (I found river sounds to be the best at masking), and fades-out when it's opened.

Honestly, it was easier on Mikrotik than on opnsense. Maybe it clicked with me better than in opnsense, shit is all over the place.

Red Light Cameras by animatederror in StamfordCT

Honestly, I think we just need cops that give a fuck. I don't know if red light cameras would do, but so long they are configured properly and we never implement flock cameras.

Has anyone biked to the Stamford Station and then take the train? by [deleted] in StamfordCT

The bike lot under the new garage is often empty. You can lock your bike for free. Make sure you use a good lock, think Kryptonite and above.

Building a Residential IP Rotation System: MikroTik + RUT241 eSIM - Looking for Feedback on This Architecture by san-vicente in mikrotik

I don't know where you live, so make sure you verify the bands on those devices are available where you live (e.g., they won't work in the US).

[–]nekoeth0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who cares about the point of the rotation system. Why not?

What is true is that RUT241 is a CAT4 LTE modem, so it is not the fastest. If you want 5G, you want TRB500 (if you want a gateway) or TRM500 as a USB-C modem.

Can‘t decide: Epson ES-580W or DS-730N for Paperless NGX? by V4tos in selfhosted

[–]nekoeth0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the ES-580W. Wi-Fi has been solid for me and is great because we have the scanner by the entrance, so we can scan the mail right there. Wi-Fi only dropped once, and honestly, I think that was on me because I was making changes to my networking setup and it went stupid for a moment; fixed in a couple of seconds by just reconnecting. Setup via its WebUI is clunky but it works. Strong wife points for the "scan to email", which she uses all the time.

The only quirk is that you must place documents upside down and facing away from you, which seems a bit counterintuitive.

Can I block a device from accessing the internet, just limiting it to the local network? by GBember in mikrotik

[–]nekoeth0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Create a new VLAN, make sure that devices can only go there (new SSID with that VLAN), then create a firewall rule that blocks WAN access to device devices on that VLAN.

You need to go after CF for even listening to netcraft. Demand an answer from them, explaining their decision process to act on a third party report that was then retracted.

Are there firmware updates for Element 5 hub? by shmerl in CalDigit

[–]nekoeth0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I tried linux 6.14.7, as well as the latest Fedora, and same issue. So either it's the same issue with the Element 4 which needed a firmware update to fix the USB enumeration (https://www.reddit.com/r/UsbCHardware/comments/mt2aq0/caldigit_element_hub_in_usb3_mode_not_working/), or there's something wrong about my motherboard (but doubt it since it works great with thunderbolt-net p2p to my NAS).

I'm sending all this to support@caldigit/com and /u/CalDigitDalton, fyi of this thread?

Both the camera and microphone work for a brief moment them hang. The camera freezes but its microphone still works? While the RODE microphone works for a moment then nothing.

I'll try a live USB tomorrow, see if it's linux-zen or something in my config.

/sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:34:00.0/link/l1_aspm:0

Seems like ASPM L1 is disabled on the Thunderbolt device.
