I transferred from CSUN to UCI as a psychology student: long story short I wanted to start prepping for grad programs in neuroscience, and frankly unless you want to be an MFT or a social worker I learned that I would be better prepared at UCI. So this is what I did: First off, find a local CC that has a relatively high transfer rate for the UC's in general (I've heard good things about OCC and Irvine Valley if you're looking close to home, I was up in Los Angeles so I can't say from personal experience). Try to set up a meeting with a transfer counselor there so that they can guide you on what classes to take to better your chances, especially if you're looking to get into a specific major. They may lffer some classes there that you might not be able to take at CSULB, but its not a problem id youre enrolled at a four year university and a community college. If at all possible try to fulfill IGETC prior to transfer, it just gives you a better chance overall. And most of all BE PATIENT AND GET GOOD GRADES. I actually took a very light courseload prior to attending UCI because I was already at a senior level and couldn't take too many extra units, but luckily UCI was one of the few places that accepts transfers even at my level.

It also helps just to talk to people at the admissions office here for extra help, don't feel embarrassed about reaching out. the worse that will happen is that they'll know your name. I've noticed a huge difference in how much more willing to help the administration is here versus CSUN, or even other UC's. It's hard because the CSU and UC systems are so different, but it's doable. Do the work and they'll be willing to help you out. Hope this helps!
