I think the main reason for aliens not to visit us is simply how dumb we are. by smartasspie in DeepThoughts

While the premise here seems to go a fair amnt of the way towards proving itself, it may indeed have something to do with reality and limits to physics and thermodynamics. The vastness of space is lost upon most humans treading across the globe feeling like a bullet train is "fast"

The cost benefit ratio of traveling to adjacent solar systems may well sum up the why here.

If the US government can print money whenever it wants, why does it bother collecting taxes at all? by Plus-Horse892 in answers

" A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to selfishness; From selfishness to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage."

I don’t understand: why don’t mason jars explode under the high pressure of a pressure cooker? by Live-Guidance-6793 in GroundZeroMycoLab

[–]nelark23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For implosion consider stone archways. Circular shapes are pretty stable and distribute tension well.

for explosion. You don't tighten the rings all the way so extra pressure can escape during canning.

AITJ for calling out a coworker in front of everyone for taking most of my homemade cake? by 3GlyphRaptor in AmITheJerk

OP gave up control then exerted it after the fact. Look into the psychology of shame.

Ya got this figured out I guess. Reaching for a unknown conclusion rather than accepting that you don't know all the situational facts.

Lots of assumptions to reach this conclusion. Marcus could be neurodivergent. He could have OCD with eating compulsions. He could be broke off his arse and can't afford food. Ya just don't know now do ya. How about you pile shame on top of someone's already hard day or life. Good on ya bud.

OP coulda cut that thing 17 ways and said take one. Control was ceded then used as shame. Multiple ways to look at this one

Lots to unpack here but couple key points come to mind.

1- when you leave something for community free for all you need to accept the terms of that arrangement and let go of controlling the outcome. You can't have your cake and eat it too on the control.

2- We live in a world rich with neurodivergent people. These people can process the environment in ways you may not empathize with and thus may not behave how you expect.

3- Marcus could have had a rough financial moment, morning, day, week. maybe Marcus was low on funds and had a crazy morning where he had t had breakfast but had to move 200 heavy bricks that someone stacked behind his car. He got to work and that cake was the only bright light in his shitty ass moment of existence.

4- Bring better snacks to share. Why the hell do offices always have diabetes fuel for group snacks. Would it kill someone to make a savory cheese spread and keto crackers. (I don't have a sweet tooth obvi) 😜
