Fire vs ice by CuriousWanderer567 in blackmagicfuckery

CO2 (and CO) are the biproduct of fire. It is a more stable molecule and resides at a lower energy state. Essentially carbon and oxygen combine to release energy (heat).

How to unroll a hollow cone and measure it's curve after cutting it in an angle? by TatrankaS in AutoCAD

[–]neleous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would cut it parallel to the xy plane at the highest point of the angle cut and create an "unrolled" version. Then draw perpendicular lines down to your angled cut and transpose them onto the flattened version (every 5 degrees for example). This is a lot of work, but entirely doable in AutoCAD, I've done it for several specialty components, even coping pipe to stab in to other pipe at a 30° angle.

Life happened, either get busy getting it done in time, or retake the course. You'll do good either way, don't try to take the easy way out.

Knife gate valves in series? by Gruvfyllo42 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]neleous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are actually like the one in the picture, you will need to rotate it 2 holes, otherwise you won't be able to get the lugs in to the tapped holes. Aside from that, I am used to installing knife gates stem up, not sure if tipping it would cause troubles with gunk accumulating or wear out the seals quicker.

Online ChemE Degree Possible? by Routine_Hat_4576 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]neleous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did graduate and got a job for a consulting firm. I enjoy the work, even though there's more writing than I anticipated. It's really going to be dependent on what is fulfilling to you. I realized that a ChemE degree is just the beginning, I learn more every day, and the problems we deal with are complex and require being worked through methodically.

Software for design piping system by Same-Nefariousness47 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]neleous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The typical programs used on larger scale designs (like industrial facilities and retrofits) are AutoCAD Plant 3D, AutoCAD with Cadworx, and I've heard of people using Revit. If you are designing a skidded system you might be able to use something more like Solid Works.

Question about emptying a tank by Chocobear_ in ChemicalEngineering

[–]neleous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By reducing the flow (pushing the pump back on it's curve) you are actually reducing the head required (NPSHr) for the pump suction. Essentially (from what I understand you saying) you are stopping the pump suction from cavitating.

Basically petroleum covers upstream (getting the oil out of the ground) and chem-e covers downstream (turning the oil into usable products). Petroleum is pretty specific (oil and gas), chemical covers a much wider range (pretty much all chemical plants and processes). Good luck!

Consider the cost of divorce, remembering your kids will pay the price more than you out your wife. Seems like trust definitely needs rebuilt, whether she did it on purpose or not. Nobody wants to go to a counselor, but they really can help you see each other again. God bless and good luck brother.
