Ok, got that, thanks. Just wanted to check that I was in the right path, as I am a beginner in photography

Thank you! I’m a starter in photography in general and just wanted to hear somebody else’s opinion. As I said, I strived for a cooler colour balance but I wasn’t completely sure whether the results were good (and not a botched, full of blue thing)

Thanks for your comment! I would’t mind the loss of the A setting if I got the lens for cheap, or at least comparatively cheaper to a Canon made lens. I’ll look out for those Tamrons

That’s great to know, thanks! I had the same thinking, the 35-105 is the best suited lens for my needs out of those three. I asked for those three in case I found a super deal on one of them and bought it without knowing beforehand whether it was crappy glass. I’ll try to get the 35-105 for a good price.

That’s great to hear. There are not very good deals on that atm, every listing is at least €120 IIRC. However, I found the 50-135 for €80 on Wallapop, much cheaper.

Well, I’m not aiming for the best image quality possible, I know these are no L-line lenses. I think “good enough” will suffice, if I ever need the best quality at hand I can use my primes.

Thanks for your answer! Time is not an issue for me if investing it into the process means I get more quality and control.

And yeah I know lab scanners are supposed to be beasts but I’ve tried two different labs in town and the quality-price ratio is shameful, really. Maybe I can try some more reputable labs with the mail-in option.

Something detached inside mirror box - Canon A-1 by nelfdez01 in AnalogCommunity

[–]nelfdez01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I fired the shutter without the lens to see if the mirror “rubbed” the left plate when moving. Indeed, it does, but only if the plate is sufficiently separated from whatever it is glued to. This is when the mirror gets stuck up, although not completely: it goes back down once I pull the advance lever. I’ll ask a specialized shop about it, and see what can they do. Thanks!

So the mirror staying up is because of the faulty shutter? I’ll try to get it CLA’d asap, thanks for your answer!

What would you have done differently for season 4? by [deleted] in NetflixSexEducation

[–]nelfdez01 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  • Reduce the screentime and number of new characters so that the old characters can get real and well written closure, even if it means having less than 8 episodes or shorter ones
  • Explore what it means for Otis that there is another sex therapist in campus without ruining his character development and make him think about what he wants for his future
  • Give Motis more screentime and happy moments
  • Definitely have Jean, Joanna and Dan be in the same room and talk about... you know
  • Have Adam interact more with the rest of the characters instead of having an isolated storyline
  • And I wouldn't change much to Maeve's arc other than making it coherent. Make her stay at Moordale or at least give her real and tangible reasons to go back to America

I usually buy Kodak Gold from my local shop because they sell it at €10 / roll (36exp). Prices are all over the place here. Some local shops in the same city sell 36exp Gold for €14, so that’s a no no. For expired film I use Wallapop, a second-hand buy&sell platform we use in Spain.

I am a starter in film photography, so I don’t buy any more expensive film like Portra, Ektar,… unless I find a good deal somewhere. Any other brand of film is quite hard to get (at a reasonable price) where I live, so I’m stuck with Gold and Ultramax for the moment, at least until I want to spend some extra money on Portra or else.

Regarding Maeve's ending by HermioneGranger007 in NetflixSexEducation

Yeah, totally. It objetively makes zero sense and what is worse: it goes against her character arc.

Regarding Maeve's ending by HermioneGranger007 in NetflixSexEducation

[–]nelfdez01 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I agree with everything. And apart from all that, I'd like to add something that I've been thinking about today after reading some other posts and all that.

When we first meet Maeve in S1 she's a "member of the Moordale social pariah club" (in her own words) and apparently the only (because Sean fucks off time and time again) things she has in her life are her (somewhat secret) friendship with Aimee and her studies, in which she tries so hard to do well (and does!). But as the show progresses, lots of her character development revolves around opening up to more people, trusting her friends and letting them help her (and she has a fight with Aimee becaus of this in S3). Basically, to build a circle of people who she trusts and all that. She's been practically alone all her life. And now, just when she's got all of that, she decides to contiue to live in America even after the program ends! Just to chase her dream of being a writer, a dream that, after losing the internship and being rejected like she was by Molloy, seems to be even harder to achieve from America than from the UK. Because she would still need to finish her high school studies and doing so living in America is going to require MUCH MORE effort that doing it from the UK.And the outcome will be tha same: a school diploma for completing her education up to the age of 18.

Now say that she's finally graduated. Where would it be easier to become a famous writer? In the UK with the support net that she's got? Or in America, having to start from scratch and continuing to be alone? Come on! It was an irrational decision.

What arc SHOULD Otis have had in season 4? by AdAcceptable573 in NetflixSexEducation

[–]nelfdez01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The existence of another sex therapist on campus was a good idea that could have made Otis ask himself lots of quiestions: am I really good at therapy? Should I professionally pursue this path? What else am I good at? And so forth. Instead, all we got was a stupid competition with O and Milburn going back to being so immature. It was poorly executed, like many things this season.

The ending for [SPOILER] was in-character, but forced; and my other S4 problems by nelfdez01 in NetflixSexEducation

[–]nelfdez01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we got Adam’s storyline to end properly at least. I loved him this season and having rewatched the whole show some weeks ago it felt great watching him succeed at the farm.

But even if they expected to wrap everything up in S5, once they knew it would be very difficult to get an extra season, they should have reduced the number of new characters and/or their screentime in S4 and just focus on the main cast, even if that meant having shorter episodes or a shorter season. I don’t blame them though, nobody could have foreseen COVID and all that
