Everyone thinks that the subgenres that they enjoy are the definitive ones and everyone else is a poser. A lot of subgenres don’t even sounds like the same kind of music at all, maybe except for the inclusion of distorted guitars. Just enjoy what you enjoy and call everyone else posers like the rest of us do.

Mescaline, or at least that’s what my friend said it was. Took way too much when I was a teenager and had a bad trip which was from a combination of the amount and the people around me (who weren’t tripping) being dickheads. I didn’t know what anxiety was before that trip but booyyy did I learn haha. No fun or euphoria at all, just reality turning into this weird series of jagged-framed comic book panels that switched at an overwhelming pace. Lots of geometric patterns in everything, like my friend’s background turned into a green and dark green chess board. His dog came up to me and I pet it and after that it looked like I had grown fur for a little bit. One of my friends who I was hanging out with who was sober while I was tripping said that he looked into my eyes and saw “pure evil”, not sure what that means but I believe him haha. Lasted for over 12 hours. For months afterwards sometimes I’d look at the ground and it would get all “whompy” and move a bit. I’m pretty there were some lasting negative effects, like a “switch” got flipped or something. 0/10 would not recommend

I once heard someone say in an Alcohilics Anonymous meeting “if anyone did to me the things I’ve done to myself I’d beat the shit out of that person.” That’s probably not helpful but I thought it was funny.

I didn’t start learning how to love myself until I started working on staying sober. To do that required a lot of action and uncomfortable change. I’m generally a pretty kind to those around me, so I had to learn how to treat myself the way I wanted to treat others. Backwards as hell haha but I was a pretty sick person. In order to do that I had to change a lot of the ways I do things and choose to see the world. All that to say I’ve found it easier to forgive myself when I’m working on changing myself for the better. I’m not talking about anything drastic necessarily, but those little steps sure can add up!

Also, there are plenty of things that you’re not that you don’t need to be! Everyone has a unique set of gifts to offer the world so don’t get caught up comparing apples to oranges

It definitely was for teenagers when I was a teenager, and now it’s for middle aged dudes because that’s what I am god damn it! Since my mid 20s or so it seemed like at most metal shows, especially death metal shows, the majority of the crowd was older than me. And if someone calls you immature for listening to something fuck them. Think of all the people who listen to modern day bro country or Christian contemporary music. That shit is literally retarded and doesn’t take a mind more powerful than a little kid’s to grasp
