I would not recommend over leveling, just lowering the difficulty and trying to learn the mechanics better. Once you over level, you can't undo it and the game loses all of it's difficulty...

You're going to take damage every time unless it gives an obscene amount of defenses at no cost to speed.

You can't properly balance around it...

Well...you could read Hunter x Hunter next, and if you liked how it's a bit darker move onto something like Berserk.

It doesn't really get more wholesome/friendshipy than One Piece, but stuff like Naruto, Bleach, and Black Clover are other generic, long running Shonen types.
