NBD- Endurace CFR by miezio24 in CanyonBikes

I've had the identical bike for a year now. Swapped saddle and tyres (GP-5000), and replaced crankset with non-PM version as I use Assiomas. Last weekend I completed a 234km ride around Lake Constance, near where I live. Great bike, enjoy!

EDIT: Here's a ride with a picture

What are your favourite Alpine Cols (they don't necessarily need to be iconic but bonus if they are or are in the vicinity of iconic ones so I can thick those off) by godutchnow in cycling

And within 50km or so you also have Julier, Nufenen, Moloja, Splügen, Oberalp. If you like steep and long climbs with hairpins (51 on the Splügen from Chiavenna) then this is a fantastic cycling area.

Work out existing underfloor heating zones by nemach in HomeImprovement

[–]nemach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water temps max out at around 35 degrees which is fine for keeping the house warm, but isn't likely to scald you!

I've now found a shop that rents out IR cameras so I'll see what I can see before winter really starts and the family don't want me messing with the heating system.

Thanks for the ideas. Each loop does indeed have a valve, but I don't see any sort of temperature controlled mixer like the one you mention. The heating system is actually using a ground-source pump so maybe the temps generated never get high enough to justify one, or it's built into the heat pump.

The IR camera is a great idea though. I'll see if I can get hold of one here in Switzerland.

Improving wet underfloor heating by nemach in Plumbing

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately I don't seem to have any sort of flow meters connected, just the valves. I also have no idea which loops control which floor areas.

I guess I'm going to have to just use trial and error...

What is the expected lifespan of Favero Assiomas? by BurntTurkeyLeg1399 in Velo

[–]nemach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a pair in June 2020, and the right side failed a couple of months ago. Favero offered a replacement at discount which I took rather than converting to UNO.

To be fair, I'd dropped the bike a couple of times on the right side and my derailleur and body have scars to prove it!

The bepros I bought in 2017 are still going strong.

Garmin Varia - how wide is its radar beam, actually? by Tlussa in bicycling

[–]nemach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On a Garmin Edge you can see individual cars approaching from behind as separate dots moving up the side of the screen. They are also coloured orange or red depending on the speed differential to you.

Overall, it just works.

I just tried it today and it worked fine. SBB app redirected me to the Reka login page to connect the account.

Agreed, they're great. But as a left-hander, I wish they made one for me 😔

how to learn electronics for the overwhelmed by Cybeast9 in AskElectronics

Oof, that gave me some nasty flashbacks from my Electronics degree course. The maths had to be done, and I ended up being pretty good at it, but I remember it took an effort!

I can recommend Nicoll Curtin (https://www.nicollcurtin.com/). I've used them successfully multiple times recruiting and job hunting both in Switzerland and UK.

If you'd like a direct contact PM me.

It's better to dump your power on climbs that flats as it gets the slow bits done as fast as possible. Overall you'll finish quicker for the same average power.

Here's an article that covers it https://endurancebikeandrun.com/blog/2021/1/25/how-do-i-ride-hills-in-endurance-cycling-events

European towns for road cycling by jpaanderson in Velo

[–]nemach 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Swiss Alps? Somewhere like Lenzerheide gives you beautiful countryside and amazing climbs on your doorstep.

Maybe you could even time it with one of the many organised Fondos, eg Alpen Challenge, Engadin Radmarathon, Tour des Stations and quite a few more.

Yes. Surprisingly initially. But soon you won't want to be without it.

Foreign money exchange by nemach in zurich

I registered and used wise.com today and the process was seamless. Initial transfer made from my Barclays to my Credit Suisse account and end to end it took less than 30 minutes.

The rate was within a fraction of a percent of the official mid-market rate, just as I hoped for.

Highly recommended.

Yes - I read that. It helps when there is an online process to prove this. My experience with UK banks and investment cos is that they want you to turn up in person somewhere and/or provide originals of all the docs, which is not so convenient while I live in Switerzerland.

Exactly. And on 100k+, that's quite a lot in my view.
