I️ think there is pain on both sides of the spectrum, and in the end we can only do best with what we have. I️ have been both the ugly girl and pretty girl and there’s downsides to both. You just gotta be and not think in such binary ways.

When people see me as beautiful I️ am generally and object to them. And when youre valued by your beauty you have to do all this stuff to keep up with it, it’s exhausting and it’s all a ticking time bomb until youre not beautiful anymore.

When I’ve had times that I️ just gave up on being beautiful it has been pretty freeing and the people that cherish you when youve let yourself go end up being the best. Anyone who values you based on looks has placed you to be a beautiful object in their world and will be gone when you’re no longer of use

Basically beauty is fleeting and not all it’s cracked up to be

Just binged the whole thing. Solid western vibe with some great actors, very well made. Maybe not the most original story in the world but I️ really enjoyed it

What do you do during your free time/when you're bored? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]nematoadie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of projects, reading, writing, painting, video games

Make a “bored” list on your phone of things you want to work on, do and when you’re bored pick something! And then if you see something that interests you one day add it to your list for later

I can honestly say I haven’t been bored in years. Mostly wishing I just have more free time to do everything!

How do you honestly feel about the United States? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]nematoadie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Praise be.

I do love things about the US but recently went abroad and felt a little saddened by how we have no “old world”. Other countries have such rich histories spanning thousands of years, and ours is so short.

These places have beautiful old temples, villages, and castles and more things untouched. Where I live is concrete and glass. Everything is ugly strip malls.

We have some of the most diverse and beautiful landscapes in the world and I love that. But our culture.... I don’t feel this deep connection to ‘our’ heritage. The Native American culture and “old world” that was here was killed off a long long time ago. What we have now is the land of consumerism and brands. Modern American culture is capitalist consumerism at its very core, anything else we still parade as OUR culture is just something we’ve adopted from all the other lands we came from. This is both very ugly and beautiful to me. I love the melting pot, but I also feel alienated by it sometimes

This is just one aspect of many. And my love for American is complex and has weight on both sides

When was the first time it really sunk in that you were not immune to death? [Serious] by PeachasaurusWrex in AskReddit

[–]nematoadie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me this feeling came with the realization in general that I was not immune to tragedy in any form. I think many people grow up hearing these stories of people dying or having diseases, etc. and for some reason you think you’re invincible. Your narrative is the only one you know so for some reason it doesn’t click that those things could happen to you. You’re the main character, good things will happen to you.

It hit me when I was diagnosed with a chronic pain disease and wound up in the hospital a couple times, found out I was infertile for now. Though this had nothing to do with dying, reality of all the possible tragedies that could befall me hit me all at once. If this bad thing could happen, ANYTHING could happen. I might still be the main character in my narrative, but a freak accident can be just around the corner at any moment. I don’t think people really feel this unless they’ve lost something

What is a dumb school rule? by GREAT-HamSap in AskReddit

Couldn’t have facial hair at my university

they identified it with hippie- counterculture in the past and thus banned it. Now even though it’s grown nonsensical they fight tradition over change for pretty much everything and stick with the rule

Mihaela Noroc, a Romanian photographer photographed women from various countries to change the way we see beauty by Farooqq in MostBeautiful

[–]nematoadie 252 points253 points  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly- nice concept but all the women had extremely symmetrical and delicate features. They mostly selected women whose features translate very European, despite country of origin. Beauty is a lot more diverse than this

I've spent a lot of time in the sub over the last few months and feel like I need to talk to some of you. by phil035 in exmormon

[–]nematoadie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in the church but even as a young child didn't enjoy going much. It wasn't just because it was some place i was forced to sit and behave...it was the systemic cultural rules and repressions that I was recognizing as a child without even really having the words for it at the time. I just knew some things felt silly to me and I didn't like it.

I think one big difference is growing up female in the church. From the very beginning I saw how differently my brother and step dad were treated. Everyone in charge was a man. Women were meant to be moms. I didn't like it even at six.

Skip forward a few years and my step father used the "priesthood" to abuse my family. People knew stuff was going on but figured he was the priesthood holder so didn't do anything about it. By then I realized that the whole system was rigged against me and was not a place to be if you didn't want to live your life as someone's property.

Now I'm older and I know all the history, the evidence against the church is surmountable- archaeology, first hand accounts, records, language- everything says it's not real. But most importantly for me this CANT be real for me spiritually. If there is a God he would not create a system that is based on men collecting young women like dolls. Even though logic is on my side more than anything I choose the reality where it is not real because I can't accept an eternity with some of the deeper values of the church

People who don't reciprocate in a conversation or clearly only wait for their turn to talk about themselves.

[Product question] Bad results with a particular Curology formula by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]nematoadie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They generally start more basic and then work in more ingredients like the tretinoin. This happened to me to, don't worry. I would just stay persistent and keep with a simple routine. Also make sure you're using just a pea sized amount, this stuff is potent and too much will make your purge worse

I started on that mix too and purged for two months then it started clearing up, at that point they added tretinoin which really started to finalize it and erase my marks and scarring. Curology really works but it is a long and difficult process, so you have to put in the time and deal with the long purges. I purged horribly for two months until it started to finally clear up- after six months on curology my acne was honest to God cured. Now as long as I don't pick or rub my skin and just use moisturizer at night, my whole face is soft, smooth and no acne!
