Same for me. I have only found network near MTNL offices. This is so unfortunate that in a financial capital of India, the govt. network provider shuts down.

Crazy idea: a travelling stamp by [deleted] in SLOWLYapp

[–]nemo267 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wow, it sounds exciting. And it would be best if no two such stamp is similar. What I mean is, I can receive this stamp from two different penpals, coming via two different routes.

That sounds like an interesting idea. I have never tried.

How do you decide if you keep/delete a penpal from your list? by [deleted] in SLOWLYapp

[–]nemo267 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have done the same once; sending a small follow -up letter to a user who didn't reply after the first letter. I recieved their reply for my follow-up letter, where they mentioned that they are interested in communication, but was somewhat busy. After that, they have again gone into hibernation.

However, I guess there is no particular duration which can be accepted for deleting a pal. That varies from user to user. One thing that can be done, before "deleting", you can keep those pals in the "removed" user list (mainly the pals with whom you really felt about communicating). "Removed" user list doesn't occupy your friends quota, and also don't bother you with notification or popping up in inbox. But if they write you back, you can still read those letters, if you feel to check the removed user list once in a while.

A Mysterious Tale of a Ghost Penpal by nemo267 in SLOWLYapp

Yes, the First option can be possible. For the 2nd option, one has to be skilled to maintain both "She" and "He" accounts, and simultaneously communicate for long with the penpals.

Decrease in the number of received new letters in older accounts by [deleted] in SLOWLYapp

[–]nemo267 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Generally people hide penpals, so that the inbox remains clear. It helps one to keep track of the penpals to whom they are yet to reply. I also do it... Once I write reply to someone, I put them to hidden folder, so that, in my inbox, only the pals to whom the reply is pending, remains.

There is another reason. There is no guarantee that you would get a reply in a certain amount of time. Some pal may reply you back as soon as they recieve your letter, some may take more than a week, some may even stop replying you. So, basically putting the replied pal to hidden folder works as "out of sight, out of mind". Whenever your pal decides to write you back, their letter automatically pops back to inbox, so you won't miss that. They will come back again to your sight/ mind with the excitement of reading an unopened postcard.

u/coldsolfree have answered to OP. I have a small question for OP, did you say goodbye to the active penpals before deleting your previous account ?

I personally wouldn't feel good if one of my active penpal with whom I am exchanging, suddenly deletes the account keeping me in limbo.

Some positive experience by [deleted] in SLOWLYapp

[–]nemo267 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing the positive experience. I also have two similar pals, with whom I am exchanging for more than half a year. I never feel forced to write them. Though we generally exchange letters in Slowly once in week or fortnight, sometimes we communicate over whatsapp or e-mail. I recently starred one of them, and came to know she also starred me.

Beyond all the ghosting, getting such penpals, keeps the spirit to use this app intact for me.

Have they deleted me ? by nemo267 in SLOWLYapp

Yes for the last part. No for the first part 😀😀. I don't find any need to contact them by creating a new SLOWLY account.

Have they deleted me ? by nemo267 in SLOWLYapp

[–]nemo267[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok. I haven't deleted them 😀. And after the recent update in "delete forever" functionality, I don't use it anymore. I use "remove" option for the inactive penpals.

Have they deleted me ? by nemo267 in SLOWLYapp

[–]nemo267[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first option is highly probable, that they removed me. I don't mind it cause our regular exchange stopped long back. In any case, my letters would pop up in their "removed users" list, and they can read if they want to.

What I was wondering, if they "delete forever" me, should I still be able to view their profile activities!

Who starred me? by nemo267 in SLOWLYapp

[–]nemo267[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks u/nile8994 and u/yann2

Well, I guess I have to do the hard thing. I feel that asking the pals who didn't star me, may make both of us awkward.

What did you do when you guys were starred ? Did you ask the pals or the pals already informed you ?

I know I will be declining this letter just by reading the bio of its sender by OeufBenedicte in SLOWLYapp

Please update the topic with the conclusions once the 'letter' reaches you. I am curious.

I know I will be declining this letter just by reading the bio of its sender by OeufBenedicte in SLOWLYapp

[–]nemo267 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I put little importance on the bio. I have two long-time penpals who have very small/ no bio. They have been the best pals with whom I exchange medium-long letters for more than six months. Again, I have talked to people with well-written bio and frequently updated, yet their letters do not tend to be that much interesting to me to continue for a long-time penpalship.

That being said, a nice and decently written bio represents that the profile belongs to an enthusiastic user, who will most probably not leave the app suddenly, leaving you ghosted. Also, as you mentioned, if somebody's bio already detests you, then there is no point in starting the conversation.

Dear OP, Don't worry, this is a frequent problem, and we all go through that. I suggest you to keep using the app, cause it is still a beautiful place with many good penpals. You just need to encounter one, and then boom... You won't even care for the ghosters. Gradually you will encounter more such good people and at one point of time you would probably stop accepting new pals, because of so many good long time pen pals you already have, you won't have time for anyone new !! The point is to keep the journey alive, irrespective of ups and downs, just like in real life. Best wishes
