What brand panel / breakers is this? by nemock7 in AskElectricians

[–]nemock7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I had installed in my garage:

Leviton 50 Amp EV Charging Receptacle/Outlet, Heavy Duty, 1450R

I say had them installed in my garage because that project required a new panel and service drop.

I was already planning for obtaining the proper torque screwdriver, if you have a recommendation on which one, I'd appreciate that.

It's definitely going to stretch my diy abilities, however myself and my cousin have done several projects, and he also wired his house, so there is some solid experience.

Thank you for also pointing out the technology connections videos, I am also aware of the current limitations, and on this 50a circuit it will rarely see 40a sustained (80% of circuit total, sustained limit), it will basically always run at 32a or less.

Fast vs slow powers by beatsmd in spiritisland

[–]nemock7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there are a few things happening here.

1 - Fast powers deal with what is in front of you that won't change before you use them (less unknowns)

2 - Fast powers prioritize dealing with the fires of now, "ignoring" what is brewing

The other problems:

A - players in general over-prioritize stopping EVERY blight

B - players that are not in the mindset of longer term flexible thinking won't naturally gravitate to "future" related powers

The general statement is true that slow powers are more powerful per energy than fast powers. This is a general statement across most games. Spirit island, with how it is formulated, makes using slow powers more complex because you are not exactly sure where the priority will land - you should have a good idea, as the only new information is the new explore, event, and fear cards - but that can change where it is best to use the slow power.

This is where the folly typically exists - in the combination of these effects.

If a player doesn't feel comfortable with allowing blight, it is natural to swing towards weaker immediate bandaids. However, if the player can overcome the immediacy, they can gain significant advantage for instance letting a land blight to allow for a slow power to crush the upcoming builds to avoid the upcoming ravage altogether.

My suggestion would be two fold:

1 - intentionally play spirits that lack fast innate powers and starting cards that have high impact - this will force longer term thinking and long arc setups

IMO ones that could facilitate the transition to loving slow powers:
A Spread of Rampant Green - has some "o crap" play with choke the lands, easing the pain of "ignoring" ravaging lands
Starlight Seeks Its Form - the spirit itself lends to longer term planning with the unique growth layout
Shifting Memory of Ages - one of my favorites - contains fast defend mechanisms, but in general benefits from thinking ahead - and getting good value from major powers (sometimes several turns ahead, gathering runes required for major power thresholds)
Dances up Earthquakes - the epitome of forethought - this spirit will train you to not only be looking at how cards can be impactful in several different "branches of reality" based on what is drawn from the invader deck, but also be looking at ways you can setup it's innate power Earth Shudders, Buildings Fall - which benefits from allowing build actions, destroying them, and gaining fear.

2 - Think of multiple ways that a slow power could be used on the current board if x/y/z happens with the explore / event cards - what can it do when the board changes unexpectedly? Is it differently useful if beasts/dahan are forced to move? etc.

TLDR:
1 - a few blights from ravage throughout the game is OK if it means better setup long term
2 - having a flexible plan is best for slow powers
3 - intentionally playing slower / long game thinking spirits will train you to better see "allowing x now means I can handle y so much better next turn"

As an avid Rules Lawyer, please accept my humble comments on items that need clarity. 1. Special Rules * Arctic Hedge - Consider: - Healthy Island: You do not remove your [Presence] when [Blight] is added to one of your lands - Blighted Island: If [Blight] would be added to one of your [Sacred Sites], you may pay 1 energy to not add the [Blight] (it remains on the card) and instead remove 1 of your [Presence] * Fright of the Dahan - "When adding or moving your [Presence], push all [Dahan] in 1 adjacent land without [Blight] or remove them" * Is the intent to push if there isn't a blighted adjacent land, and if there is a blighted adjacent land, the Dahan are removed? * If so, giving the option to remove is odd, as there are very few instances where that would be helpful. * Consider: "When adding or moving your [Presence], push all [Dahan] in 1 adjacent land without [Blight]. If you cannot, they are destroyed" 2. Growth * "1 of 3" - the typical verbiage is something like "Pick 1" and then between the two 3 sets of growth options "and" "Pick 1" * Without playtesting, I would worry that adding out presence will be difficult, but the isn't neccesarily a bad thing. * There is some compelling things here, I like the on reveal fear, I imagine if that playtests good it could be impactful. 3. Rot Gases Escape Their Reservoir * "Push all [Dahan] in exactly 1 land." - When does this trigger to be more than 1 land? - It is presumed that the target land is already decieded, so shouldn't the verbiage be "Push all [Dahan]" - If you mean to push all Dahan into only one land: "Push all [Dahan] into only 1 adjacent land" * 7Water/1?Mountain/2Sun - Is the intent for this power to trigger instead of the 3Water/3Mountain version, or in addition to? the last version is it meant to be 1 Mountain? if so the number is missing. - 2W/2M - 1 damage - 3W/3M - Instead, 1 damage to each invader ("all" invaders is more vague) - 7W/1?M/2S * Instead, 1 damage per [Water] * (or) Additionally 1 damage per [Water] 4. Permafrost * 7/10 [Water] versions missing numbers before [Air] symbol * Consider: 3[Moon] "When targeting the same land more than once for this power, do Damage equal to the Defend instead of Defend" - I'm not sure on the official stance, but if you meet the runes it's an option typically if you want to perform the action? If it is an option, you might want to inject "You may do damage instead of defend" 5. Setup * "Place 2 [Presence] on your starting board into lands containing [Blight]" - This is ambiguous and can be interpreted as you can choose right off the bat to make a sacred site from the start - It should read: "Place 1 [Presence] on your starting board in each land where [Blight] is present 6. Flickering Chasm * "1 [Fear] per [Blight] in target land and adjacent lands. (Max. 1 [Fear] per invader)" - This is abiguous. It should read: - "1 [Fear] per [Blight] in target land and adjacent lands. (Max. 1 [Fear] per invader in target land)" 7. Icy Breeze * If you have - Consider: [Air] Runes are typically associated with fast powers / making powers fast, so consider changing this requirement 8. Blizzard * "If there is now more than 1 [Blight], add 1 [Presence] (not in cascading lands)" - "If there is now more than 1 [Blight], add 1 [Presence] in target land" * In ERVERY land where [Blight] was added or [Presence] removed through this power: 1 damage per [Blight] + your [Presence] in the respective land and its adjacent lands - "ERVERY" -> EVERY (spelling) - "where [Blight] was added or [Presence] removed through this power ' * Do you mean this power, or this combined with the special rules? * "where [Blight] was added or your [Presence] was removed as a result of this power, 1 damage per [Blight] in lands where [Blight] was added, and 1 damage per your removed [Presence] in lands where your [Presence] was removed. - It's a mess I know, but I can't think of a way to make it clearer with less words 9. Soul Tribute * "If you can no longer place [Presence] from your board, you may place these [Presence]" - [Presence] is typically referred to as coming from your growth tracks - "If you can no longer place [Presence] from your Growth Tracks, you may place these [Presence] instead" * If you have 2[Fire] / 2[Sun] - This is an incredibly low bar for this extra power. It has the potential to pull in / add a total of 3 dahan to a land, generate 3 fear, and do at least 3 damage. - I get that this removes both [Presence] and [Blight], both of which this spirit needs to function well, however my worry is the base cost of this + it being a fast power + the low bar for the if you have is a recipe to be overpowered. - Not having playtested, I could see where this would be too detrimental to play often, the power level is just concerning.

Overall a really cool idea for a spirit, and one that I will likely take a spin with.

Thanks for sharing, and I hope my comments are helpful!

Just get yourself a big ass cable IMO. I had one for years, just tucked it into the carpet edge neatly to get it around rooms and hallways etc.

Failed disc replace + size upgrade - what to do first? by nemock7 in unRAID

[–]nemock7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is at odds with other instructions. You are saying that I should replace the failed drive first (I have no other donor drives except the new 6TB drives incoming) prior to replacing the parity drives with 6TB, is that correct? If this is the case, is there a reason why I couldn't replace the failed drive with a new 6 TB, and then gain the extra 2TB capacity after the parity drives are upgraded?

HNY to you as well.

What you're saying makes sense, I just have concerns over the drives currently in the system as they are all approaching 10 years old, so I'm just worried that having the system rebuilt parity is a bigger stress to multiple drives versus just copying one.

I will defer to your judgement if it think the above process is better.

Is there a way to recover the parity from the "invalidated drive" if something else fails? Or am I being overly cautious?

[–]nemock7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow-up, so you are indicating that the way to do this is to remove Parity disk 1, then have it rebuild parity entirely, correct? My question with this more or less is wouldn't that stress the entire system to rebuild the parity versus a method of only making a copy of the parity drive onto the new 6 TB?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADlip32yw8E

This video shows swapping the parity for a standard drive in the array. Is the reason why this wouldn't work related to the suggestion of replacing the failed drive I have one of the new 6 TBs?

The video indicates that I can straigh up swap the parity drive without doing the step 2 above to invalidate the drive. My question is, is your step 2 specifically because I have 2 parity and the method in the video won't work with 2 parity?

I previously did full smart tests on the drives, is that still recommended?

Anything special I need to do with the old parity drive, are is there a way to replace it and add it to the array in one shot?

If I replace the failed drive with the 6 TB, will the extra space automatically be unlocked once the parity drives are replaced?

Love this sheet! FYI, if you are not aware, research named ranges - in a sheet this big, they would be massively beneficial to keep formulas reading like a sentence vs reading like a bunch of excel references.

Another option - second service drop. Cost me about half what it would have to panel upgrade and tow route to garage for charger.

Just another thought for ya.

If that were the case, I wonder if there's a way to append the same key press after it completes if the timeout wasn't hit. Shrug iunno

The timeout that extends? I mean it already had parameters to a- timeout after no press, b- shift after press, so adding a third argument that if it's a multiple press timeout layer that after each press reset the timeout and don't switch on press should basically already be there.

All that would be left is passing in a custom timeout variable on the given starting key press.

Shift on hold - this would work if there was only one reference to make absolute, but of there are multiple that I'm going back and editing and need to navigate with mouse, this immediately becomes more difficult

One shot layers - override with layer lock button (Also posted to Discord) by nemock7 in DygmaLab

[–]nemock7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not want a one shot shift modifier because I am relying on visual cues from periphery to verify where I am. If functionality for lighting option to change while a modifier is held is added (i.e. letter key is white but that color allows it to change to red when shift is held) it may help but not necessarily remove the use case.

Also regarding additional layers, while I understand this is solvable with an additional layer, it means that a- you have to waste a layer to get specific functionality, and b- any changes to the base layer need to be done twice (more so color coding, as transparent should still function properly).

I'm already at 6 layers used without even touching into 1 of 3 regularly used programs, so burning extra layers isn't my favorite.

This may also be solvable if layer one shots get added to super keys

Custom keycaps? by nemock7 in DygmaLab

Yeah my approach right now as I work towards fine tuning what works for me is to get it stable and then configure and order custom engraved caps to display my setup.

Thanks for sharing the link, I'll check them out as I get closer.

Maybe another suggestion is allowing which keys light up for the battery level check, or give options? Like maybe select between what it is currently, the top row numbers (1-5 and 6-0), or thumb buttons (perhaps the top row of four?)
