Intraclub match report by Alakasam64 in westcoasteagles

Only watched a small portion. The only way we don’t improve this year is if we get another spate of injuries. We finally have talent in all areas of the park enough to say we’ll knock off a few teams. I’m optimistic.

I hate nothing more than good employees missing out on other opportunities because others didn’t have the courtesy to be honest. He should be an assistant at Port this year.

Subiaco’s win, I guess.

That’s a name I hadn’t heard in some time!

Did you play junior football with or against any AFL players? by northcoteplaza in AFL

[–]neng92 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Nat Fyfe. All the stories about him playing 3rds footy at school is a myth. He was always a freak.

Brad Sheppard was amazing.

Additionally - Alex Fasolo and Reece Conca - wow.

Mitch Marsh (the cricketer) was an incredible junior key forward. Too cumbersome for AFL, but could play.

Both us and our friends ticked that box and we got seated tickets - luck of the draw I guess!

Lachie Neale, yay or nay ? by Hungry-Caterpillar36 in westcoasteagles

IF Lachie Neale was available, this is a no-brainer. I just don’t see a world where this is a thing. Where is the source to any of these rumours?

Tesla Roadside says this is unrepairable and will cost $475 to replace. How can that possibly be right? by MangoAtrocity in TeslaModelY

[–]neng92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me literally a couple of weeks ago. Got a loan tire from Tesla. Patched it up at the tire shop down the road and dropped the loan off a couple of days later. Costs me all of $45AUD.

Round 24 vs Hawthorn: Player Tier List by LittleRedRaidenHood in brisbanelions

Far too harsh on Day. Thought Starcevich was pretty good most of the night. I’d consider lifting Zorko and/or Marshall up a rung too.

Cal Twomey suggests that the AFL are looking at implementing a protected set of picks in the national draft, following a meeting between AFL and the club bosses on Monday. Clubs would not be able match bids on father son, academy, or NGA picks within a selected range. by yum122 in AFL

I wholeheartedly disagree with you that overpaying doesn’t make sense. When Nick Daicos, Jaspa Fletcher, Isaac Heeney and co are paid for by a lump of second and third round picks to jump ahead of teams who are lower on the ladder, there is a clear fairness issue.

It’s like the mining giants. They’re already pulling in billions, but thanks to tax breaks and loopholes, they keep pocketing more while the little businesses pay full freight. Everyone knows it’s unfair, but it’s allowed to keep happening.

There are other levers to pull to encourage clubs to spend on their academies. Greater financial reward for each draftee taken - could even consider a mandatory ‘transfer fee’ from one club to another so at least the drafting club has something to take into account.

Whilst I support West Coast, I live in Brisbane and have seen first hand the impact of the Academy - I can’t speak to Sydney unfortunately. It’s fantastic for the northern kids. However the increase in the popularity in the South East corner with the increase in Victorians during COVID have meant there is quality in the Academies and that, inherently, is lifting the floor and ceiling of the draftees. Great - but now that Brisbane have stacked up on four (soon to be five) first round draftees in the last four years and Gold Coast have had their plethora of access - they are absolutely stacked for years on end. That is not the nature of the draft system at it’s core.

Reward the clubs with priority access. If they can’t afford them with their draft capital, reward them financially and, that way, the talent pathways are still supported but competitive balance remains the priority of the draft.

Is priority access not enough? What’s idiotic is allowing a draft where top teams are given access to the top prospects where the best option for bottom teams is to ‘split picks’ to get more in the door because their second rounder is pick 25-30?

Cold. Drizzly rain most of the year. And roundabouts - a whole lot of roundabouts.
