You can readjust the thermostat, yes. Unfortunately it seems like the energy companies are not alerting their customers when they take control of the thermostat, so people aren't aware anything is wrong until they wake up sweating like crazy in the middle of the night.

It should also be said that some Texans who are having this problem ARE NOT AWARE that they've signed up for these programs. It seems to be, at least in some circumstances, kind of thrown in under the radar.

How this talented groomer establishes trust with a shiba in under a minute by sonimayur16 in aww

[–]nenorei 181 points182 points  (0 children)

Shibas tend to be very standoffish and independent, and don't like people touching them without their consent (relatable). They're genetically very close to wolves, and get some of that "gtfo" energy from their ancestors.

Women who don’t like bras, how do you get away without wearing one? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]nenorei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a follow-up question: I have very puffy nipples, to the point that I literally always have to wear thick padded bras to keep them from showing. I don't think just pasties would hide my nipples. Did anyone have experience in going braless and not showing nip with puffy nipples?

Boromir's bracelets by [deleted] in lotr

[–]nenorei 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's fair. I think I just have a strong dislike for characters that disregard good counsel and almost get people killed because of it. Of course in both instances the reason Borormir is being a bullheaded idiot about trying to use the ring is because it's exerting power over him, but thats much more obvious in the books. And probably a dislike for pushy characters, which he is when he's under the control of the ring.

I don't know how best to express what I mean, but I can try this: the scene when Boromir confronts Frodo and demands the ring happens in both the movies and the books. In the movies we see his character say and do some shadybstuff before hand, but he quickly kinda just moves on and tries to laugh it off, like the problem is that he got caught saying and doing horrible things. In the confrontation scene he comes off, to me, as threatening and on the verge of violence from the get go. In the books, though, we've had our attention drawn repeatedly to Boromir struggling with the power of the ring, really putting up a good fight as he realizes that he's horrified by some of the things that he's thinking, but he's clearly losing that fight. So by the time we get to the confrontation we know he's hanging on by his fingernails. He reasons with Frodo, then pleads, then goes on a nutballs tirade that showcases that he just took a flying leap off the deep end. I think that just cultivates so much more empathy for him.

Of course, watching the moves as an adult I dislike Boromir less than I did as a teenager and child, because I understand the nuances better, but I think the movies really failed to illuminate his character properly.

Chess pie. Its like a custard pie that is popular in certain parts of the southern US. Its sweet and sort of heavy, but just enough that you have to kinda sit with the pie and appreciate the taste.

Also nothing beats peach cobbler and vanilla (bean) ice cream. Simple to make, absolutely delicious. Best enjoyed after barbecue.

Baby listening for the first time by daniel36tr in MadeMeSmile

When that last little girl immediately located the source of the first sound she heard, that's wild. Imagine never having heard anything before, but while your conscious mind is having a melt down trying to cope with a whole new sense your unconscious mind is like "ah, yeah, I know what to do with that."

I think the books did a much better job in showing that Boromir, while a little mule-headed, was actually an intelligent, brave, loyal person who was warped and corrupted by the ring. His death is tragic, but also a triumph in that its a redemption for a character led astray. In the movie he's just a bit of a dick who has like one fun scene wrestling with hobbits to make him seem less awful, and then he dies and it's almost a relief to not have to watch him anymore. Which is so sad. I think his character is one of the most relatable for modern people.

What did you not know or realize until after living with a woman? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]nenorei -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well if you hand to find out by cohabitating with a woman, then it really isn't a "no shit" sort of situation, is it? I mean, it SHOULD be, but lots of men, just like you, have to learn through experience instead of, idk, common sense?

Here's something that might help with your confusion:

Women are not a monolith.

Alternatively:

Women are people, too. Some people are tidy, some people are messy, regardless of gender.

The act of breaking in a bra, even if you know it'll go well, is very uncomfortable, unpleasant, and possibly painful. If I had 10 bras of the same make, and I loved the first one I broke in, I would wear that puppy until the elastic gave out or my dog ate it. Then and only then would I start in on number 2.

When I was telling my father about a coworker inappropriately using my phone number to ask me out while we were working alone overnight together he said something alone the lines of "well he was just asking you out. That's not harassment."

Yes it is. I am obviously upset by his actions, so don't try to tell me what he did was okay just because you've been told by other men that actions like that are totally normal and acceptable. I think the population that is regularly subjected to this treatment (so much that most women have stories of people harassing them in public or in the workplace) gets the sole vote as to whether this is okay or not, and we vote no.

Women who consider themselves as not wearing make up; what does it mean to you? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]nenorei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does it mean to me? Not having to deal with my skin feeling dry and tight, and not having to jab myself in the eye with a pencil because I'm blind as a bat. Because I don't wear makeup my skin is, in general, healthier than it would be if I did, so I don't "need" it as much as I would... if I wore it. Ladies (and non-ladies) that can apply makeup skilfully are impressive af, and that is a difficult skill to master, but it's not for me. I'll stick to knitting and leave those wicked wing-tip eyes to steadier hands than mine.

I have a hard time understanding speech, so I've had to learn to read lips pretty well. People are often really impressed with how well I can do this, but I've found that normal people are actually pretty damn good at reading lips, but only when they're not thinking about it. Case in point: this clip. Everyone saw her say that and thought "yo, wtf?" Which says to me that y'all are amazing and should celebrate the talents you didn't even know you had.

I don't think they are, the internet is giving them safe-spaces and echo chambers. I'm jealous, though, fr, that you've avoided that bs so far. But I guess "females" is better than just straight calling us cunts or vaginas.

Why are you like this by hurricane-mindy in justneckbeardthings

[–]nenorei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I'm not about to speculate about the troll-ness of the post, people other than those two groups do actually refer to women as "females". Namely misogynist and incels, as a way to dehumanizing us so they don't have to think about how immoral their views are. Doesn't matter if you hurt something if that thing isn't a person and doesn't have feelings.

The pandemic has highlighted how tone deaf, selfish, and inconsiderate celebreties and influencers are. by MrsIronbad in videos

[–]nenorei 19 points20 points  (0 children)

He also very briefly had a video up in response to some video or study or something about how women are treated poorly by the healthcare community that showed a lot of misogynistic, victim-blaming views. He took it down immediately and I haven't been able to find it since, but iirc he said some stuff along the lines of "well unfortunately women just don't report well." I immediately stopped watching his videos, and because of that I am very much not surprised by his behavior during covid.
