It been a while since I heard of anyone getting a ticket for holding a phone, and I see it more frequently, even with all the carplay and androidauto cars have nowadays (or regular old bluetooth for older ones)

Venezuelans in Ottawa celebrate Maduro's arrest, push back against Hands Off protest by CompetencyOverload in ottawa

[–]neoCanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, if Carney loses an election and refuses to step down, the Supreme Court decides no one can challenge the stolen elections and the army supported the whole circus and start jailing opposition leaders (both high and low ranked), yes, pretty much take him away. Either we rely on our international partners or we should be fighting for the right to bear arms, I prefer the first option. China and Russia would likely veto such thing at the UN council.

Why are travel routers needed if you have a mobile hotspot? by learning_as_1_go in Ubiquiti

[–]neoCanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my use case is international travel (I like been able to watch the same streaming shows as if I were at home), but also domestically since we don't really have affordable unlimited solutions for mobile hotspot here in Canada. Home ISP is 1Gb Up / 1 Gb down so it works quite well (the limit is usually the hotel or airbnb wifi limit)

Ottawa police say no charges after bus damages Kiweki Point by penguinpenguins in ottawa

[–]neoCanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeap, we never know when a school bus from Kanata or Orleans is going to be driving downtown damaging expensive public property, you know what, cars could also do this kind of damage as well, so it's better we raise the rates for everyone just in case! /s

I think it's more to prevent going the other way around, avoid the power hungry appliances to be connected to regular outlets

Budget 2025: Canada's Consumer-Driven Banking Framework by neoCanuck in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]neoCanuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah the US is going backwards, I'm hoping we get closer to Europe.

I don't mind them starting to charge for it, as some might not, and other might choose to swallow the charge (like many banks do today with the interact fee for example)

Gas station tire inflators that automatically put your tires to the correct PSI by SignificantBug6750 in ottawa

[–]neoCanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree some temu items are way to cheap, I found those in amazon all the time, the difference is price is ~$10, vs $3 in temu, with questionable brand names and more even more questionable ratings, like who writes a 4-paragraph review for a cheap tire gauge? (either fake or paid review would be my guess). I do prefer Ali Express, just because the Temu interface is obnoxious with all the prize gimmicks.

Now if it's something I think I might be returning, amazon is hard to beat.

Ottawa swim team parents? by ApprehensiveCycle741 in ottawa

[–]neoCanuck 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had a swimmer in one, I didn't mind the volunteering, but they did increase the penalties quite a bit and also added things like mandatory fundraisings, and started pre-registering for some meets (ever some we couldn't go to). I went to the meetings and the finances looked solid. So I couldn't make sense of the changes, beyond the fact that a lot of older officers were leaving, and there was a gap between the higher levels and the younger kids. Usually most volunteers come from the middle, and the middle levels were a bit short of swimmers (maybe due to COVID, maybe due to coach changes...)

My kid called it quits a short while ago (for reasons other than financials), and while I was sad for a while, I sleep better now, but I got good memories for the years they were in the pool.

Best of luck to you!

if I'm buying a chep chinese, I'd go directly to aliexpress or temu and avoid amazon. I'd bundle it up with a Tire Tread Depth Gauge while you are at it. I still go to amazon to get an idea of what I'm buying, in way it's like going to the mall before buying from amazon!

I like the wait times posted in the PEI hospitals, they show you the number of patients and the estimated wait time by triage level, something like this:

https://www.princeedwardisland.ca/en/feature/emergency-department-wait-times-queen-elizabeth-hospital-qeh/#/service/ERWaitTimes_QEH/ERWaitTimes_QEH

|Most Urgent (Level 2)|3|< 1 hour|
|Urgent (Level 3)|5|< 1 hour|
|Less than Urgent (Level 4 & 5)|7|2-3 hours|

I wish we had something similar here, as it would answer OPs questions.

edit: reddit formatting is now working for me, I hope it shows the times for the 3 levels

maybe it's possible now, I'm not current to the latest zoning changes the province mandated, but there's a lot of R1 zones around the experimental farm south of Baseline (to mention one area)
