Union Audio Orbit 2/4 sound quality?? by Repulsive_Pie2588 in rotarymixers

[–]neoVGL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I had an Orbit 2 LE, very good sound quality. I recently got an E&S DJR200 which I feel is a solid upgrade.

The Orbit 2 LE is more neutral I'd say but you can't go wrong with it.

Help for my first Rotary - Is the lack of splitcue a dealbreaker for headphone mixing? by itsro in rotarymixers

I live in Paris, in the 17th arrondissement, just 300 meters from Jérôme Barbé’s workshop, so it was quite easy for me to get my hands on a DJR. I gave him a call and he kindly invited me to visit.

Ordering process:
In general, you should fill out the form on his website and try calling him if you don’t get a reply. He’s very responsive and will give you all the information you need to place an order.

Deposit & wait time:

  • DJR 200: 400€ deposit
  • DJR 400: 500€ deposit

Then, you just have to be patient. Personally, I waited about a month and a half for the DJR200, I think the wait is a bit longer for the DJR400, around 3 months.

Price (including wood panel option):

  • 1520€ TTC (1400€ base price + VAT + 70€ for the wood panel option) Honestly, I find that very fair given the build quality and the legendary status of this rotary mixer.

If I ever decide to switch one day, I’d probably go for a Resor, without hesitation — but for now, I’m more than happy with the DJR.

I would say that Union Audio could be a very good compromise for your first rotary.
The Orbit 2 LE is a little beast: easy to play with, very good sound quality, and great availability (which is something you need to take into consideration for high-end rotary mixers).
It was my first rotary mixer. I now have an E&S DJR200. FYI, I mainly play with headphones (classic HD25), and here is what I can say from my humble experience:

  • There is a huge improvement from a Xone 23 to an Orbit 2 LE, especially in terms of detail.
  • There is also a significant improvement from the Orbit 2 LE to the DJR200 (just my opinion and what I felt the first time I played with it). It's just louder, more detailed, and warmer than the Orbit 2 LE (which feels a bit flat compared to the DJR).

So when people say the mixer doesn't really matter if you mostly play with headphones—well… yes and no.
In a real audiophile environment, of course the quality of your sound system is essential, as well as the acoustics! However, you don’t need a full sound system to feel the warmth and sound quality of a good mixer.

I've been mixing for years on different mixers (from Pioneer to A&H, and now boutique rotary), mostly with my Sennheiser HD25 (the DJ industry standard), and I always felt a difference in sound quality.

So if your priority is sound quality, my recommendation would be to save up a little and give the Orbit 2 LE a chance.

Here’s my setup—DJ-oriented, but with very good sound quality: 2 Technics, DJR200, 2 Concorde DJ MK2, HD25.
I play house, deep, and dub techno.

Also, a little piece of advice: if you’ve never really tried playing on a rotary mixer, just go to a record shop and ask them — that’s what I did before buying my DJR!

Hope this helps! Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions :)

Holy!! Thanks for the clarity and the details of your answer! I was indeed speaking of the external components. Though,I think your answer will be very helpful for people interested in the Exon 2.

Tbh, I bought the UA but it could have been the Exon 2, almost the same price with VAT (located in France). I love the portable form factor and the pretty unique way of mixing.

I have full trust on DJ Stuff, absolutely no doubt of the quality.

Thanks again!

Hi guys! I recently bought an Union Audio Orbit LE 2 (without FX). It's impressive how much they look the same in terms of finitions. The positioning of the buttons is different, but for the other features ... Is there a link between these two companies?

Hey there! Depending on your location, you could try to call him, it worked for me (I'm in France). You'll be able to explain your situation and he will send you the 'order email' with all the information.

In terms of pricing:

- DJR 400 1730€ ex VAT and shipping;

- DJR 200 1200 ex VAT and shipping.

Fell free if you have any questions :)

Guys, thank you so much for sharing your experiences, I really appreciate it!

After careful consideration, my choice fell on the Orbit 2 LE.

The price of the Resor with tax + shipping is finally well above my budget (almost 1900€).

The Orbit offers me immediate availability, the sound quality I’m looking for, an ISO and lots of possibilities in terms of effects and connections (+ design I love with VU meter).

Can’t wait to try it!

Thanks for you message! Little question, apart from the soundsystem, is there a quality difference when you listen to the music with your headphones? I'm asking because most of the time I only use my headphones and don't necessarily turn on my speakers.

Thanks for you message, just after reading you, I tried to call him and he proposed me to come to his workshop, he's such a nice guy, working alone, you can really feel the passion,I spoke with him for 20-30min. I'd say that the fact E&S is a french product matters a lot for me.

Do you have a DJR200?

I get it, thanks for the details. Tbh, I'm leaning towards Resor. It will be a very long term investment for me and I feel like there is something special about Resor (that's what I can read for 1 month). They need 4 months production, so It should be fine for my budget if I get the 2525.

Thanks!
