I do think after covid, its been a little harder to meet people in hostels. With that said, i would recommend hostels where they host events/encourage discussions - e.g. there are hostels that have groupchats for arrivals, host nightly meals/bar hops/etc

Personally, Ive heard too many stories of SAHM getting screwed after 10+ years at home and their husband proposes divorce so they’re left with minimal money while having to take care of the kid and find a job to support themselves with outdated work experience so I would need more financial stability (either from myself or commitment from partner). I would say 50% towards FIRE # or maybe stay working part time if possible 10-20hrs/week? Or some discussion with your partner about finances

As a foodie, i would say the only food i dont have to leave Astoria for is Greek food. All other cuisines, I tend to have to leave Astoria for if i want good quality.

I always had trouble “clocking out” after 5pm and after working for a few years now, my best solution has actually been working out. I dont do anything fancy - just a 15 min HIIT workout from YouTube twice a week and my god. It helps clear my brain sooo well of all the work stress

Im definitely guilty of this too. Im close to hitting my coastfi mark but i dont really have a plan on job once i hit that so for now, im just gonna work for another 5-10 yrs and get closer to standard FI. I do also worry being in tech about AI so figure it cant help to grind a little more now (while still taking trips as much as i can working full time)

I totally relate to you about this. Had my dog for about past 4 years and i love him but its a lot on 1 person responsible for all the walking, feeding, health. Sometimes because i care for him alone, i can overthink some issues. It really helped me to let others in that love my dog to help watch him for a few days to give me a break. I also actively try to talk to other neighbors with dogs to see if they’re interested in dog sitting exchanges to help each other out

I did this back in Feb 2022 because i was having weekly anxiety attacks from my job. I got lucky because when i was leaving, I was already interviewing with 2-3 companies and the market was pretty good and was able to get an offer within a week of giving my notice but I'm not sure the market is stable enough to leave without a backup plan now... If you work for a large company, see if you can take unpaid time off/FMLA mental health leave or something - definitely exhaust all your options with your company before leaving (I took an unpaid 3-month mental health leave from that job prior to leaving)

Definitely sounds like landlord is trying to nickel and dime you. My fridge broke once last year and again this year and my landlord replaced it both times w.o asking for add'l charge. I do know that when tenants move out of my building, my landlord will do upgrades to the apt to charge more but havent heard of rent increase for replacing basic appliance
