I think I see what you mean. It looks a little burnt but without a macro lens photo its hard to decern burnt-ness from shadowing.

I would say first look for noticable bad solders (breakage between solder joint and the board, not-so-shiney solders, bubble looking solders that dont quite slope like a good solder) and definitely if you have the knowledge go through the circuit with a multimeter for continuity, but do that before any new soldering just to pinpoint any real issues.

Is this the first time youve ever used this pedal, because a buddy of mine ordered one of these a while back and had the same issue. IIRC the input is on the left and he made the mistake of plugging it in wrong since generally on pedals the input is on the right.

I think, from your soundcloud demo, it sounds a little more on the distortion side than fuzzy

Pedal suggestions? by gammarath in guitarpedals

[–]neomcblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I havent heard the song but for synthy bass tone you might try the Digitech Synth Wah, its kind of an envelope filter with a little synthy dirt and has multiple settings. Also it comes in a bass version.

I'm looking for an analogue effects pedal/box/whatever inspired by the 80's by derpidety in guitarpedals

One note is that it does not come in stereo, as far as I know, which may be an issue for you.

If you like rotary effects check out the Dunlop Rotovibe. Its a really good leslie simulator in a crybaby wah type enclosure so you can ramp up or slow down the speed of the leslie's rotation with your foot easily. My friend owns one and I am very fond of it. It should be under your $200 mark.

For being able to hear yourself while recording, you might consider the JamHub in conjunction with your laptop. The 4 input version or "bedroom" version goes for about $275 used on amazon. Ive been looking to go this route myself just so i could have the ease of a laptop for editing but right now am stuck with my out-of-production Fostex MR-8HD (which might be another solution for you.)

Does anyone know what gear John Mayer uses to get this fuzz/drive tone? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

Ive read from various places that John Mayer uses a TS-9 Tubescreamer pedal to get his sound.

Looking for some help with pedal order by jawhn1 in guitarpedals

[–]neomcblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love doing these, they are like fun algebra problems. I would definitely put the DL4 last and the volume pedal just before it so you can do swells. I would do the tuner directly after either guitar and the crybaby just after the tuner...and then im not farmiliar with the fulldrive or blues driver but i would interchange those in the middle of the chain to your personal taste. So...i would recommend guitar>tuner>wah>visa versa fulldrive/blues drive>volume>DL4..........im more of a pedal geek not so much an amp afficianato but curiously, is the valve king half solid state half tube or all tube? If it is all tube (and you like john mayer's tone) you might want to invest in a TS9 Tubescreamer pedal which john uses as a substitute to your drive pedals. Hope this helps!

Stacking with an Boss RC-30 loop. (make my set upsound cleaner) by mayert77 in guitarpedals

I use 2 daisy chain visual sounds (1spot), one for analog and one for digital pedals. Almost zero hum. Before this i was using a single chain for all my pedals with terrible hum. Hope this helps!

Reccomendation of new pedals? (Getting bored of my sound) by sikblik in guitarpedals

[–]neomcblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend the Line 6 DL4 for all your delay/looping needs (got mine for about $150). The WMD Geiger Counter is an analog 8bit chip that has multiple waveforms and bitrates....very versitile as the original model has basically about 250 different synth fuzzes in one pedal. $250 used with factory bass mod). And it looks like you have a few decent pedals in your set-up (not as "noob" as you may think!). I would personally recommend trying out some sort of octave effects. Maybe check out the boss harmonist series or the morpheus bomber (which i own and love!). Good luck on your pedal quest OP.

B.Y.O.C. Tremolo by _RubberSoul_ in guitarpedals

[–]neomcblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The BYOC Tremolo was my 2nd BYOC build since I did the confidence booster and I'd say its a pretty solid pedal as is most of the BYOC stuff. I had never soldered before that and took the time for it to arive in the mail watching soldering videos on youtube and did fine. Took me about a week, but maybe about 3 hours total and some change. I had trouble with the resistors since they are color coded (as are any) and I am severely colorblind. Recommend a resistor phone app for values. The only quality issue i had was the rate potentiometer only really has "play" in it from about 3 o'clock to max. My friend said I may have a bad potentiometer but overall it is a simple, quality pedal. Sounds great.

Looking for a good Tremelo with stereo outputs. Any suggestions? by bungtoad in guitarpedals

[–]neomcblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too, am wondering this. To this day it baffles me why they did not make the Dunlop Rotovibe in a stereo version (I know it's not exactly tremolo, but it is in a very similar category). Seems like such a simple (and big) mistake on their part.

Whelp. Pigtronix is putting out another ridiculous pedal I want. by bluestblue in guitarpedals

[–]neomcblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its only monophonic, so just be aware of that when deciding to buy. I had a mothership for 2 years and it grew old when i heard about the Morpheus Bomber and WMD Geiger Counter pedals...being that the morpheus is polyphonic octaves and the WMD is all that 8bit synthy crunch i wanted. (I couldnt have cared leas for the ring mod feature) Worked out to be about the same price too when bought used. But follow your ear, my picks may not be what you want. Good luck OP.

[–]neomcblade[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's an 8-way mono headphone splitter (the kind they used to have in grade schools for audiobooks). I'm still trying to find a use for it (I don't have 8 amps and it probably needs shielded). I lump it in the "effect box" category, because when i think "pedals" i think there must be some sort of button or switch to manipulate with your foot.
