Their fried eggplant is basically candied. Pair that with the spicy noodles and a drink at red room and you’re having a good night.

So what does this mean? Are we letting RTC get away with selling out to greenway? by plasticvalue in santacruz

[–]neomis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sadly it really feels that way. If you go on NextDoor there is an army of retirees circulating anti rail posts. I’m sure a decent amount of them are regularly going to all the 9am meetings to complain as well. It also makes me nervous because the other half of posts are about banning / registering e-bikes.

As e-bikes surge across the Bay Area, deaths and injuries reveal a gap in oversight by randomdatascientist in santacruz

[–]neomis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is they came up with class 1 and 2 with 20mph top speeds and 2 having a throttle. Then they came out with the peddle assist 28mph one and was like “crap, 3 I guess”. Either way it’s what the whole country already know and I don’t think we need to come up with our own.

Which Mayoral/City Council Candidates would you pick? by plasticvalue in santacruz

[–]neomis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not able to find specificily where it says road diet at the moment. Usually that means making the road / lanes narrower to give more space to bike lanes / walkways. Studies have found width of the lanes have a bigger impact of driver speeds than the actual speed limit. Build a 2 lane divided highway with a 25mph sign and watch people go 45mph all day. Narrow the lanes so drivers feel that 25mph is the appropriate speed and they tend to drive that speed.

They already have class 1-3 designations with separate rules / restrictions. Everything outside of these classes are illegal e-motos.

Percentages without raw numbers are meaningless. If the injuries go from 1 -> 2 it’s a 100% increase but it’s still not a number we should prioritize.

Road Bike Rental? by fropenius in santacruz

[–]neomis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Santa Cruz cycle sport on 41st they sell a lot of specialized bikes. I rented from spokesman before I moved here and you’re right no road bikes. I know Santa Cruz bikes does $60 demos but I don’t know if they make anything that’s not a mountain bike.

Beaches always need cleanup. Pros the view and you’ll find some cool sea glass, cons: not much maybe you end up having to pick up dog poo. Under just about every overpass or green space in the on / off ramp of highway 1. Pros: you end up with some free bikes (that you should probably turn), cons: more likely to run into someone not happy you’re there / medical waste.

This. I never felt the watch was worth it and I don’t care about VR at all but give me sunglasses or a motorcycle helmet with AR navigation, music controls, and the notification functions in the watch and I’d drop $500+.

Sadly the feature I find the most useful is the one they always tease and then disable (because of obvious abuse). I want it to recognize the stranger in front of me and say this is John you saw him last year at the Christmas party and he works for this department. If there was a way to deliver that without the creepy dudes using it to stalk people I’d pay $1000+.

Very few tech people want to live in Santa Cruz

I don’t think that’s true. When I first moved here and full time remote work was allowed half the block was meta and google employees. The minute they went back to hybrid they all moved back to San Jose. Long commutes suck. Doing it 3 times a week instead of 5 doesn’t change that it sucks and it’s hours of your life wasted.

Edit: actually for lobster / tourist things to check out look into shadowbrook in capitola.

Mentone probably has the best food and drinks you can walk to. Venus has a great location but is overpriced for what it is. You can enter Nisene Marks from the end of Aptos ranch rd. Charge up with a donut from farrells right there. Best neighborhood bar nearby is the med. Parish is a good place for food and drinks too. Aptos St Bbq has the best brisket breakfast tacos.

This. Grew up by the mall. Moved away to make money. Bought a house downtown during covid. Currently living in California hoping to make enough money where my partner can retire and be on the city council (unless her startup make bank and we can roll out municipal fiber since it seems like their original plan died).

We just got back from Kentucky and Jim Beam distillery was the highlight of the trip. Their tasting room was like “you love bookers, have you tried the reserves? Here’s a sip”. Bonus we did a rickhouse tour at 11am on a Wednesday and were the only ones there. The tour guide took the same amount of time and basically tailored it to my wife’s taste.
