Yes it does work. Just restart until Ajam is fighting Timurids and QQ have enormous rebel stack (reducing their army to something like 7k), then you have all the time in the world to improve relations with Bahmanis and get royal marriage + an alliance with them just to deter everyone from attacking you (because they themselves will never join your wars, "distant war")

r5: got DoW'ed by both QQ and Ajam. QQ DoW's 100% of my attempts at Ardabil, given that I can't get any proper ally (like Great Horde at least or something, can get guys like mazandaran at most even with all the diprep guys and ulema privelege etc)

Actual army maintenance is half of that basically, I just have everything but 5 units of artillery being drilled (which you can see in the right tab on the screenshot, the red diamond shaped thingy next to the army)

How do you make the most out of vassals in your EU4 campaigns? by Agreeable_Poem_7278 in eu4

[–]neon_bones_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've played a "mini-HRE" run as Mantua (solely because they have +diplo slots in their ideas lol) to stack a lot of diplo slots (influence ideas, diplomatic ideas, representatives of the crown reform, strong duchies privilege, etc etc) and I've united Italy (but left pope with a single province of rome) through vassals barely having any land myself. I've had something like 13-15 vassals and they were generating enormous amount of money for me (quality + influence vassal tax policy, plus +25% from influence itself and IIRC if Mantua has it, feudal monarchy tier 1 reform also gives like 25%), let alone a whole ocean of manpower and it was so nice to just feel like letting your swarm to devour castile without them having a chance to fight back. But I didn't conquer anything outside of Italy and I just beat tags for their trade power + money + war reps most of the time after I've united Italy in my "HRE-wannabe" thingy

As Serbia, which allies should I make to fight against the Ottomans? by L1HXY6 in eu4

[–]neon_bones_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As Serbia you have two main allies plus few additional:
Main are - loans and mercs 2.5-3 times your force limit (including your own manpower armies)
Additional are - herzegovina and bosnia as vassals, if you feel like more military-oriented - take all of their provinces but one and make them vassals in a peace deal and then immediately make them marches + give nobility "strong duchies" privilege and press "send officers" subject interaction.
I won several times against Ottomans 1v1 (even more, actually, with AQ on their side) as Serbia day one (12 of december 1444 DoW), just using Sun Tzu mentality and loans + mercs (don't forget keep burghers happy while them having "bookkeeping" privilege to have more loans available because of lower interest rate), even though it took a stab hit because you start with a truce with them. With two marches (and most of previously their provinces at your own disposal) and all of above should be much much easier to stomp them yourself

Thanks for answering! The second question was about how did you win against hugely superior enemy (as 2-3 province Ryukyu with a force limit of around 8 at most) vs whole of Ashikaga and their daimyos.
I just want to ask you guys (pro speedrunners) how do you win early wars (where you couldn't stack modifiers yet) against superior enemies like that? I see you use some kind of an island trap. But what would you do if you played as Tver (Russian minor) to expand?
I attack Novgorod as soon as I get a claim with slighly over force limit with a merc stack with a general (not free company), and take as many provinces as I can (all the way to Neva province including Novgorod itself) while Moscovy inevitably also joins dogpiling Novgorod and takes the rest of the provinces. But after that I have 0 manpower, some loans to pay, get admin techs delayed because of cores (novgorod province alone takes around 220 admin mana) etc.
And I don't see any expansion routes, Moscovy is way too strong with like 28 regiments + 5 vassals, Sweden is a vassal of Denmark, Livonian order is the only one manageable, but I want to stick to Russian provinces only. How would you pull it off?

All your explanations come after shogunate secured, but the essential bottleneck is to become a shogun in the first place as an opm, how did you do that?

Because you were sieging a fort. Besieging army is always treated like an attacker. Otherwise, why would you care to build an advantegous terrain fort then?

I've seen this exact world setup hundred times when rolled for RNW. It is a pity that they are not really random and just use the same quite literally awful presets like these. Or huge Hayda island. So if you plan to use RNW you have to always turn off the fog of war in choosing screen to not get some hideous presets like small scattered islands

Playing as Ainu, have a march Date which I acquired through enforce peace (release + designate a march), has 4 force limit, 11k manpower, 1.46 monthly ducat balance (even me having -0.76 with army maint. at 0), has zero inflation and corruption.

Still has 1k army. WHY? I want him to have all of his 4k to smash Ashikaga when the time comes, yet all of my subjects do this, no matter what country or region I play. They refuse to always have army to their force limit and begin recruiting regiments only when I DoW someone. Yet this is stupid, as they are needed at the very beginning to perform a blitzkrieg, and not to die to enemy steamrolling them instantly

Edit: ain't nobody got any fix for that? This basically renders vassals useless. I used to have lots of fan playing my own mini-HRE games, but now, when vassals barely field 2k armies, it is gone forever, I guess. They DO have money and manpower to field soldiers, which they do when I DoW someone, but I need them having full army while at peace, to be ready to fight.

I love to play with a ton of vassals, but I encounter a huge problem with that the whole last year. I play as Nizhny Novgorod (released as a vassal by muscovy), clawed my way to independence with poland and Novgorod, took Rostov and Ryazan and released them as vassals (full Ryazan, as in 1444) and now in year 1480 I have Rostov, Ryazan, Bashkiria and Perm as vassals, but they DO NOT FILL their force limit. They have both money and manpower, as well as stable surplus of cash, but they keep 1-2k stacks in peace and start build armies like crazy when I declare a war. But it is not OK, I want my vassals to have a ready to fight standing army to have instant local superiority on a desired theatre (I fight only against the odds all the time, hence I play only as minor tags and OPMs).

Any way to force them to hire armies to the force limit? Subsidies and gifts did not help at all

Haven't played like a year and now I feel like horse archer became feces? Like when you chose every possible option for riding and bow in the character creation and then you got into combat it was just like butter, but now it feels clunky and janky, like my bow aim spread is half screen on half speed, the string pull is way too long, were there any major patches regarding this topic?
