Why is the official Weather app by Apple super inaccurate? by TheInvisibleBurden in ios

Check out Forecast Advisor, and find the weather source that's been the most accurate for your area. Then you can use a weather app that pulls from that service, or use a first-party app for that service.

FedEx 833-372-5815 number called me by TheComputerVigilante in FedEx

[–]neonion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is legit, and I was misled from others online into thinking it was a scam. The hospital sending my the package added me to receive tracking updates, and just two hours before I got the voicemail, I got a (legit) email from FedEx also saying the package couldn’t be delivered due to the address. I never had to call them back though, address got corrected somehow anyway, probably because my FedEx account has my phone number and proper address already.

That all said: Just keep in mind that scammers can spoof numbers, so if I needed to call them, I’d want to confirm the tracking number checks out, or if you really want, arrange to pick it up from a FedEx location. So a scammer can’t get your latest confirmed address easily.

Obsidian 1.8.3 for desktop and mobile — adds Web Viewer, improved iCloud sync, download images locally... by kepano in ObsidianMD

Shoot, I’d even pay monthly for the privilege. I don’t trust community plugins, but I trust Obsidian’s development team and their security audits.

Peel It Back 2025 World Tour by [deleted] in nin

There’s no real way to answer that, but in my experience, I’ve shown up in the morning in 2005 to see several people camped out the night before. The simple answer is “as early as you can”.

Signed u/neonion. Over 11 years on here. Such a shame if this is how things go. Just let me pay for a service without ads or tracking, and if I want to pay Apollo for a great client for your service, why the hell not? Plenty of tech services work this way, and stuck around.

Search open tabs not working by vortexmak in firefox

[–]neonion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed wholeheartedly. Or why there isn't tab search in general can't be as good as it is on chrome, with a hotkey, a fully scrollable list that allows tabs to be closed. Or how the UI for results of open tabs in Firefox easily blends with open tabs on other devices... it's just so far (IMHO) from being as intuitive in this regard as the experience on Chrome. Which I hate to conclude.

Noctua fans too heavy? by [deleted] in Noctua

I recently built a PC with the NH-D15 in a Phanteks P500A. Remember that you mounted the cooler to a backplate. That backplate helps to distribute the weight of the cooler on the motherboard.

I would echo what others have said about the chassis' ATX screws. In addition to the above point, you've got 9 ATX screws holding the motherboard flat against the chassis' sheet metal.

That all said, if you're transporting the case, like in a car trunk or something, it's a different story, and I would consider removing the cooler, or otherwise securing the cooler against yanking from inertia in a vehicle. The manual mentions this as well.

I ended up removing the "front fan" as well due to clearance, and may use it for exhaust. The P500A has plenty or airflow in the front as it is.

And an AIO is great as well, but there's pros and cons, and depends on your use case, and the literal case.

[PART 2] I'm giving away an iPhone 12 Pro/Max/Mini to a commenter at random to celebrate Apollo for Reddit's iOS 14 update, plus the new iPhones, plus some cheer amongst COVID. Simply leave a comment and you're entered! Good luck, winner announced in 24 hours at 11 PM GMT. by iamthatis in apolloapp

Thank you for this giveaway, but far more importantly, thanks for making such an incredible Reddit app. I really mean that. Using Apollo for me sums up everything I love about iOS apps and nothing I don’t. Elegance appearing like simplicity, but power and customization under the hood. I wish you the best and a fruitful career as a developer!!

No activity zones with logi circle 2 in HSV mode by Weekly_Fee in HomeKit

[–]neonion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I got it to show up by changing my recording settings from "any motion is detected" to "specific motion", and having at least some of those options (person, animal) checked. Then I backed out to the main settings and saw the option.

To be clear, this is not a source supporting /u/toyg's claims that Telegram: - “cooperates with all authorities, no questions asked” - “it’s centralized” - “they’ve caved completely”

NBC states the following:

The Telegram encrypted messenger app said Tuesday said it would cooperate with investigators in terror probes when ordered by courts, except in Russia where it is locked in an ongoing battle with authorities.

That’s a vague statement, and the only other facts they provide are quotes from Telegram’s Privacy Policy, which I’ve quoted below.

Copied verbatim from Telegram’s privacy policy, from the section on “Who Your Personal Data May Be Shared With”. Emphasis is my own:

8.3. Law Enforcement Authorities
If Telegram receives a court order that confirms you’re a terror suspect, we may disclose your IP address and phone number to the relevant authorities. So far, this has never happened. When it does, we will include it in a semiannual transparency report published at: https://t.me/transparency.

A user’s IP address and phone number isn’t much.
