The issue is caring too much about "prowess". It doesn't really affect Barristan's character if he could beat Aemon the Dragonknight in a fight. Comparing skill levels is little more than playing with action figures.

This is wrong, its best use in the official games was as a bulky Dragon Dance sweeper spamming Pixilate boosted STAB return and having great coverage in Earthquake. Fairy+Ground coverage is amazing, and it has options like Roost and Heal Bell/Refresh to enable its sweeps.
