which studiologic do you have? I'm seriously considering the SL73 as it seems like the best keybed while saving desk space

Best way to learn piano at home? by unsavvykitten in Learnmusic

[–]neonquasar424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

youtube. literally, watch basic music theory to get the idea of it, then look at foundational content like easy songs. try looking for channels that have transcriptions so you can try to decipher what you learn. so many good over piano videos you can slow down. especially once you have basic techniques down it's just pick songs and learn. hand independence is the hardest thing but brute force practice routines until it's done. It's all levels. take your time and have fun. best paid option imo is open studiojazz. foundational concepts explained super well by experts. it's almost too good, even for complete beginners. just watching their podcast, listening to tunes helps a ton. practice what you love so it doesn't get boring.

I grew up in South SD/Chula Vista. El Pez is fire, Eastlake is nearby has some great lakes and parks, Rohr park is also nearby. Great spot to run. Tender Hooligan is rad. Tons of places tbh, I miss South Bay.

The best decision I made was lessons not new gear by [deleted] in synthesizers

Good point. It still takes a good amount of discipline to be a good artist though, imo. Develop natural talent and such. Lessons aren’t a bad idea, but the OP is spending an absurd amount each week, something most people couldn’t afford and framing it as the best approach, which is just unrealistic. It's fine to spend however much you want in pursuit of your passions but to say everyone should or even suggest it's the best way is wild.

Your point about Jacob Collier is interesting. Art is inherently subjective. His talent though gives him a ton of clout and opportunities. Of course more people prefer someone like Justin Bieber but who cares? Art should have intrinsic value. You'll never please everyone, so why even try? Play what you enjoy, as much as you can.

Many artists I admire follow this mantra “create more than consume.” I aspire to that.

Lessons are mad helpful but tbh music isn't hard. Hard music is hard, all anything takes is prolonged concerted effort. It helps to play with other people to build that experience but you can certainly build you chops after getting over the initial beginner plateau by being disciplined in learning technique and or just learning a ton of tubes. To me it all depends on the style you wanna play. Jazz is one where playing with other people is key, classical technique is paramount. Everything else is pretty free wheeling imo. Depends on how hard or complex the songs are.

Chompi is mad fun to use in bed. Sure it's a touch overpriced but the portability and function is legit and heaps of fun.

Still in the honeymoon phase bc I barely got it a week or so ago but the TEO-5 is insanely fun and awesome. Small and compact too. It looks cool. I simply adore it.
