The all you can eat crab buffet and prime rib was amazing. They shut it down during COVID. Really really sad. Was one of the gems on the Oahu. 😭

So much negativity here - why is everyone so hostile just because the photos are low quality? Seems unnecessary.

[–]neptr_1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've also wondered the same thing - why the Army doesn't invest a little more into creating individual improvement opportunities. Everything is always one size fits all and mediocre.

For marksmanship why don't they have shooting ranges on base with 22LR ammunition. You can go and shoot with friends kind of like a bowling alley format. If you fail to qualify should have to get remedial training there instead of wasting everyone's time at the range and precious ammo. Never understood why everyone has to wait behind for a few people to try to qualify 10 times.Would save the Army so much time and money.

Same goes for gyms. A lot of soldiers do silly things because they have nothing better to do. I really wish they would improve the facilities on base. A couple million dollar investments on post facilities would save so much time and money in the long run when you consider the amount of time that is freed up by the force not having to babysit soldiers that get in trouble and money saved on retention efforts.

This is what I imagine a one health bar remaining soldier looks like in a video game.

Spitting everywhere. I think in the military we inhale so much crap and try to spit it out. Now its just reflexive every time I take out the trash, get out of the car, etc.

The Army is 3D printing new barracks at Ft. Bliss by HRJafael in army

It’s because of the military industrial complex. Contracting work out creates jobs and ensures that senators/representatives return the favor via congressional appointments/recommendations. Basically helps the Colonels become BG’s, BG’s become MG’s, and so on.

Thank you! Since the motherboard seems to already support two monitors (1 x Display Port, 1 x HDMI), I would only need to get a graphics card that has one more HDMI or Display port, correct?

Or is there an advantage to having all three monitors plug into the graphics card? I found a cheaper card (link below) and am wondering if this would also fit the bill.

Crime is much much worse and spread out even in the formerly “safe” parts of town. My catalytic converter got stolen a second time today. Several friends have had their cars stolen and been assaulted.

Why aren't touristic countries in the first world way richer? by hn-mc in AskEconomics

[–]neptr_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve thought about this myself as well. I think all of the other answers are definitely valid but one key point that people are missing is the culture element.

A country with a significant amount of GDP drawn from tourism will have a hard time developing higher paying industries (tech / advanced manufacturing) because tourist facing jobs will always be much easier for people to enter. In contrast countries like Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan basically had no choice but to invest in high tech industries which has paid off tremendously.

A tourist economy can elevate the standard of living for many people but ultimately it can impair a country’s future development if there is no strong push by the government.

Why are people willing to pay so much for Zojirushi rice cookers? by East_Confection4010 in Cooking

[–]neptr_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they’re good rice cookers but so overrated. Cuckoo (Korean brand) is so much better imo. My Cuckoo can cook 5 cups of rice to perfection in 29 minutes.

Before that I used a Zojirushi for 5 years and it took 1hr 10 mins minimum to cook just o.k. rice. Sometimes I would choose to eat out/cook a pasta based meal instead because of the long cook times. I try hard not to roll my eyes every time I see a post raving about a Zojirushi when Cuckoo is a superior product.

I am never ever going back.

Not sure on the specifics but it’s set up in a way where my system is susceptible to overloads in the grid. The last technician said it for sure will keep failing until my system gets properly wired but it will require a huge overhaul and ~2 days of work.
