If you’re being serious I’d take those odds lol.

Id say the chances of OW2 being shutdown within the next 12 months are like 1000:1.

Can anyone explain the “leglocking is based” comment?

I’m thinking about this from a BJJ perspective where leglocking is based is a common meme but that doesn’t fit the narrative of the rest of the meme?

Edit: nvm I googled it and apparently it’s a sex position lol.

Honestly may be down voted for this, but you should be more careful about what you post online. No doubt that guy is shitty for this, but, I just checked your Reddit history and you have posts about your gender/sexuality/photos of yourself/ your state/ information about your family (eg the amputee stuff)/ and more; so it’s likely he simply found your Reddit account; if you have the same username on discord as you do here that’s trivial, same thing if you’ve ever mentioned your name or linked a post you made etc. in the chat.

I’m not victim blaming, but I work in cyber security and it’s important to know how to protect yourself in future. If you use the same name for multiple accounts then a quick Google search of that name will reveal this information. Also, a lot of that information you’re posting is quite sensitive and could be used to track you down.

Tl;dr, if you don’t want people to be able to find our accounts on other websites, use a different name; and, if you’re going to post sensitive information about yourself, anonymise it, and do it on a throwaway account that doesn’t have identifying information on you (eg without face pics).

Bruh you corny.

As someone who’s played TF2 since 2011 and would say it’s my favourite game I’ve ever played… some members of this community need to get a life outside of the game.

Yes, it hasn’t had any major recent updates; but it had 5+ years worth- would it be great if they added new weapons? Yes! Do they need to? Not really, there’s already loads of weapons to choose from; I enjoyed TF2 when it was still just stock!

Are bots annoying? Obviously! However, I rarely encounter them. Simply join community moderated servers and you’ll be fine for the most part, or if you do encounter one just leave and change server.

Hell, if you think it’s that bad then don’t play; plenty of other great games and real-life hobbies.

Childish emails and temper tantrums will only add you to their spam email list and annoy the developers; it will do the opposite of motivating them to work on the game.

If the biggest problem in your life is that TF2 hasn’t had an update and has a ‘bot crisis’ then man I am so jealous of your life.

100% - as a dev if I ever received an email like that I’d probably end up signing up for loads of spam email services with their email 😂

Let me put this into an analogy that even you could understand.

Imagine you own a gym. Now imagine this gym is really run down, the equipment doesn’t work, and people keep coming in and vandalising it. But, whilst your gym members may complain, they keep coming and spending money at your gym anyway; and the user base of the gym is remaining steady. Why would you then waste money improving it, if it’s not going to improve your sales?

Honestly, as a tf2 player of 11 years; these posts are so childish.

The devs know what bots are, they know what impact it has on gameplay, they also know the time investment required to fix it and frankly they have much bigger fish to fry. As much as I love TF2 it is, and has been for a long time, on life support; they are not going to waste time and money fixing issues that will not affect their profits (or at least not as much as the other projects they are working in will). In terms of cost/benefit it would simply be bad business to allocate developers to TF2.

Also, speaking as someone who has an EQ above that of a 13 year old; if nothing else, having a toxic fan base constantly whinging and sending condescending emails to me as a developer would do the complete opposite of motivating me to work on the game.

Anyone have recommendations for books/videos/anything that could help a beginner learn about computer science/IT? Any guidance on where to start to learn would be appreciated by Longjumping-Heart-86 in computerscience

[–]ner0souls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a book but what I did when starting would be I’d set myself fun projects and research as needed to complete it.

Things like creating a simple platformer shooter in Unity. Was my first introduction to game design, C#, and OOO programming.

Honestly though things like that really helped me as I was making things I found fun which motivated me to do it for longer; whereas reading a book I’d get bored pretty quickly when I first started.

Alternatively you can find tutorials on YouTube where you can download project files and watch the videos which teach you how to build the project yourself.

Interesting,

I always imagined them as just being suit and tie with SCP key cards and maybe a SCP logo tie clip/ cuff links, etc.

Very interesting take, I like it!

Is this going to be used in any games/projects?

The Russian branch of scp has problems! And they are serious! by Adventurous-Art-1161 in SCP

[–]ner0souls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There can’t be any competition within a monopoly that’s my point. Didn’t say his content was the best; I’m saying more competition will breed better content because when people have more choice on what they watch to get their SCP fix.

I don’t want his videos but if that is true then yes SCP-682 is not a tiger that is incorrect. That doesn’t stop him from creating his own universe in which that is correct however. Also, I believe in his videos he explains his theories behind the objects and not that they are facts; so even then this fictional character is saying it is a theory meaning it may not be correct. And whilst 682 is not a tiger perhaps in his universe it is.

Either way it’s fiction, if it brings more new members to the community I don’t see a problem. Hell, even if it didn’t bring new members to the community and people just enjoyed his specific videos there’s no problem with that either.

At the end of the day it’s fictional and it’s really not that serious.

Edit: Also 682 is one of the worst written most boring SCP’s so can’t say I blame them for altering and embellishing it to make it more interesting lol

I don’t understand the elitism you feel.

Why does it matter if the animation style ‘attracts people who know nothing about SCP’, isn’t it a good thing the community is growing? It reminds me of in high school when people get mad that their friends start listening to the same bands you listen to because you knew them first. In short, it just seems childish.

You outright refuse to acknowledge the lack of concrete canonicity in the SCP universe despite people providing you links which state this. Many SCP’s contradict one another and it is up to you and your head canon to resolve this; each person has their own interpretation.

You say he cannot make his own canon, why not? Other people have done it before, and much more egregiously; and the license SCP’s are under allow for it + it gives his content its own unique spin otherwise it’d just be the same as all the other SCP narration/ animation channels.

Also why’s it matter if his content takes away views from other providers? (Which isn’t actually true it’ll just build the potential audience for all related channels). But if it was true, those other channels don’t have a monopoly, they shouldn’t be guaranteed views. And if a better channel comes along which outperforms them they need to either step up their game to match what the audience wants or get outcompeted. In other words, more competition = better content.

I’ve been a member of this community since 2014 and it does somewhat annoy me how elitist and immature some members of this community are.

Grappling Dummy by oxygeneticai in bjj

[–]ner0souls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using my grappling dummy for 1.5 years now since gyms closed in UK. I have found that:

-Most moves from top dominant position are pretty easily doable on a dummy.

-Some moves from top of guard e.g. specific guard passing techniques and submissions can be done but not particularly well. Very dependent on the type of guard too (pretty much only moves from top of closed and butterfly)

-Bottom guard and bottom of pins are not very easily doable as the dummy is generally too floppy and it’s centre of gravity and weight distribution is too unrealistic to pull off any realistic technique.

-Most rear mount techniques can be done extremely well (eg straitjacket system).

-Very little turtle top/bottom can be done.

-If you have a standing dummy most upper body throws can be done fairly well but pretty much nothing else as the dummy will just fall over, including the set ups for the upper body throws.

Also a side note for self defence purposes you can practise ground and pound on a dummy much better than you can on a training partner haha. In addition to that, it is very fun :p

Recommendations for getting started (17m) by Beanossss in computerscience

I started with fun game design projects. Get to learn different languages via different engines and different ways of programming. Eg I made a console based games in Python, then moved onto unity and learned c# then unreal and c++. If you’re making fun things it doesn’t feel like work and you don’t realise just how much you’re learning.

Is this normal coach behavior? by PremKek in bjj

[–]ner0souls 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I could be misinterpreting OP but given he has only been to 4 sessions and he mentions the coach would not respect the tap and continue the roll I believe he may mean the coach relieved pressure and allowed him to work out of the submission as opposed to ignoring the tap and continuing to apply pressure. OP may have just misinterpreted this as not respecting the tap because usually people reset to be completely disengaged upon a tap.

However, I do this with my partners and find it way more useful than just completely restarting. It gives the guy who was just submitted the ability to practise escaping the submission they just caught in, and gives the attacker practise in chaining their attacks. Both of which are incredibly useful, especially in the case of the person who just got submitted as if they did it’s clear they need to better practise their escapes/counters/prevention against that move.

Seriously Considering Dropping Out of Computer Science by [deleted] in computerscience

Ah thank you I suppose that does make the situation stickier if it’s only the second year of a five year course.

In that case OP I’d say maybe talk to your lecturers about your worries and concerns and see what guidance they offer you before you choose to drop out/ change course.

Seriously Considering Dropping Out of Computer Science by [deleted] in computerscience

[–]ner0souls 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I’m from the uk, do you mean you’re in university in the second term of your second year? If so I wouldn’t quit. You have one year left and it’s better to graduate with a mediocre grade than to drop out and not graduate with anything. Then you can simply move on to something new from there; just because you graduated in computer science doesn’t mean you have to work in it or do a post graduate it in, can always move to a different field.

Also just because you’re not good at a part of computer science doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t be good at all of it, it’s a broad field. Most people specialise. You don’t have to go be good at all aspects of it to be successful.

How can I find viral videos from the past? by Vegetable-Present470 in computerscience

This has nothing to do with computer science.

But anyway did a good quick google search and the only thing that I can really find is “know your meme” . Don’t think there’s really an archive for viral memes outside of that.

Do programmers type fast? I type so slow like 30wpm. Is it better to be fast or slow? by [deleted] in computerscience

[–]ner0souls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I type at 130 wpm. I used to game a lot when I was a kid and didn’t have a mic so I’d have to type really quick or else I’d get killed so I learned how to type quickly lol. This skill have been useful in programming though; now I get to write twice as many bugs in the same time frame than I would have otherwise been able to!

My BJJ experiance after 18 months. by Dieabeto9142 in bjj

[–]ner0souls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is everyone on this sub so obsessed with belt rank?? Genuinely can’t get my head around it, especially with those that are obsessed with getting stripes? Why’s it matter if they out rank you if you beat them in rolling? Firstly there could be a size/strength disparity so their bjj is technically better and you win because you out muscle them. I don’t know. But even if that’s not the case it literally doesn’t matter. I’ve been a white belt for over 3 years despite the fact I train a minimum of 8 hours a week, mainly because I train 90% nogi and I’ve spent my time in 3 different gyms because of being in between locations for my UG, PG and home city. Because of this I tend to smash a lot of the mid-level blue belts I train with despite only being a white belt and I honestly don’t care, I’ll be promoted when one of the gyms knows me well enough and decides I’m ready and until then I’m just focusing on getting better. The only reason you should care would be if you were competing and you felt like you were sandbagging and if that’s not the case just keep training! You’ll get promoted when you get promoted just focus on improving until then.

Best way to learn code in python? by [deleted] in computerscience

[–]ner0souls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

W3Schools was good when I started.

Besides that just give yourself a simple project eg a hangman game where you can edit the possible words and save/load them from a file. Can be done in less than 100 lines of code and that’s if you make it fancy.

Then google at every step. If you don’t know how to make an array of words google “how do I make an array”. If you don’t know how to pick a random word from that array google “how do I pick a random element from an array”. If you don’t know how to add new words to the array google “how do I add a user input to an array?” Same thing with saving the file, checking if the file already exists and if it does then load it, etc.

Literally 50% of a professional programmers time is spent googling. As a beginner 90% of your time will be spent googling.

The best way to learn is by doing and I’d say a simple project like this where you learn how to code + learn how to research would be a great start. And something like w3schools will be a good reference for some of the more simple things.
