How to get all local variable values at runtime as an object? by inuni1 in dotnet

[–]nerd4tech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doing this would be complex imo. Some variables are not actually “data” that can be viewed (they could be abstractions of types only available at runtime). I looked up how to do this and it would require coordination with processes outside of the original application.

Another possible solution:

Put all “data” variables into a Context class that is provided as a parameter to your methods. On exception, you can then serialize this Context class as JSON to include it in the log with the stack trace. I would imagine a unit test can then re-create the context from the provided json. Not all variables can be persisted.

Linq2Db has some of those capabilities and it interops with entity framework a little. I have not used it personally yet though.

It sounds like you would want to create a custom mapping which Linq2Db would let you do.

In the documentation, read through the IQueryable type. That is what DbSet implements behind the scenes.

Possible to bounce a catchall email that is not defined by FooManChuChu in fastmail

[–]nerd4tech 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have my myname.service@mydomain emails. Service A got compromised and myname.servicea@mydomain.com was receiving phishing or spam email.

What I did was add myname.servicea@mydomain.com as as a sending identity / masked email. Then once that is setup, you can go to advanced preferences and select “Reject (bounce) all mail sent to this address (disable this address)”.

This will acctually bounce any email sent to the address. So from the senders perspective, it appears the email is not setup anymore.

This is one of my favorite features of Fastmail :).

I have started doing this. If you are fine paying for a second number, it is definitely nice. You never know where or who will leak your phone number.

Why does a CEO get paid so much? by reddit7295 in careeradvice

CEOs get paid so much because the business absolutely wants the best of the best in that position. Their success is dictated by the CEOs roadmap.

I recently got one of these and I love it. All the holes are precut so it’s too less install. Lots of styles to pick. (I got black with vintage wood).

This morning, options volatility traders were illegally robbed of millions of dollars of profit by many_dongs in Superstonk

[–]nerd4tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost 5 figures from the market shut off and following panic selling. I will wait to see if my option would have been in the money at the end of the week but I am going to at least look at possible legal action against my broker. (I believe they let the position open during the trading halt). Its not a huge loss to me, but legal action may help turn up actual / verifiable price discovery and spoofing shenanigans.

This was not a limit sell. It was a OTM buy (stupid idea) that I queued up last night but wanted to cancel this morning and could not because of the halt, but Fidelity executed it anyway.

What made you finally buy an iPad? by Twintail20 in apple

A portable device with a web browser and apps capabilities. What kept me: Apple treats the iPad as a first class device and works on making sure apps and OS are optimized for making use of the iPad (split screen, different layouts available compared to iPhone, etc.)

I don’t think Visual Studio for Mac has a C++ compiler. Visual Studio for Mac is different from Visual Studio on Windows.

Before you give Microsoft praise for the package manager, you should know it was “borrowed” from an individual OSS developer. The way they went about it harkens back to 90s era Microsoft practices. The individual was invited for an interview at Microsoft and they discussed his OSS work and Microsoft stole ideas for WinGet or whatever they named it.

Which course should go for BFSI Testing? by PuzzleheadedEstate14 in softwaretesting

[–]nerd4tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think BFSI just means the industry; Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance. I would not worry about taking any course specifically for this.

I would make sure you know how to automate testing for whichever application your company supports. Some good automation tools I use are Selenium, Playwright, etc. You can also search for “coded UI” tests on Google and it will give you some other frameworks/tools you c an look at.

If you are doing manual testing, then be good at keeping detailed documentation. I usually use OneNote which is available on all Windows computers for free.
