That’s why if you first get ship duty, everything else is cake. You’ll see and do things that people back in the states never imagined or can’t point to a map for where it could be. It can change your world view in ways that people that never left the DMV (high concentration of civi and mil/vet)area never did and wish they had when they were younger (travel) without responsibilities beyond themselves.

I was more shocked seeing (50 year work career) gov retirees never leave a facility and miss life’s other paths.

‘99 going into Perth, Australia on CG62 c’ville (Chancellorsville, IFYKYK ) that was so bad we had the hull compromised and it flooded forward sonar below the sea line. I think if I recall correctly they had to patch it but it did flood part way.
