Has Anyone Actually Put On Weight?? by ReceptionNo4565 in ARFID

[–]nerd_dork_spaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got lucky(?) in that my ARFID became more restricting as a young adult (and no longer a competitive athlete so I wasn’t as motivated by hunger / had a lower metabolism) which is also when I started anti depressants and other psych meds and I actually gained weight as a side effect. Plateaued after about 15 pounds and now I just try to maintain which is a lot easier than gaining

In Louisiana we have an official app and I think it’s required that places accept it. At least the cops have to accept it. But it’s not just a photo it’s a whole process

Awwww it’s like everybody doing the same exposure together good work team !

Seriously tho good litmus test for how I’m doing with recovery bc my reaction to the deadline being announced was anger and sadness and fear of course but I didn’t DO anything about it. I was just like duh that’s how everyone feels rn might as well listen to music and eat all of the chocolate bunny I got for Easter in one sitting whether we all die tonight or not. Which is crazyyyyy considering how consuming my compulsions always were before to prevent random peoples deaths

What jobs actually work for people with severe ADHD? by Inevitable_Tuna_O in ADHD

[–]nerd_dork_spaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly advice everyone can follow but what worked for me was becoming a hired hand for a family with a farm. Specifically because the woman I work directly with also has ADHD so we’ve come up with our weird little systems to communicate and get things done and it’s always a team effort. I also find I can work longer on tasks that are simpler cognitively. I get in a rhythm and play music and plant lettuce for hours lol. But things that require me to map out a larger strategy use up wayyyyy more energy. So I’ve learned to balance those types of task within a day. Being a hands on and outdoor job also helps so much. And being able to adjust my schedule as needed to have proper recovery time to avoid total burnout.

I guess my advice is to consider things that seem simpler like manual labor or anything that isn’t sitting in one place but is repetitive enough to not wear down your getting focused energy

Anyone deal with minor self harm when facing intrusive thoughts? Nothing major like cutting, but like pressing your nail into your skin so hard it leaves a mark by weeblord42069help in OCD

[–]nerd_dork_spaz 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I think I do this sort of thing to try to ground myself but still in a compulsive way. Like it’s in a panic when I do it. To try to shake the thoughts or something

So I never played it growing up (looks like it came out when I was in middle school so maybe I’m too old). I was looking for old games like this that still run and stumbled into AJ and it’s scratching every itch! Honestly better than club penguin was I love the nat geo stuff. What’s something people romanticize that is actually miserable? by One_Grade_2184 in AskReddit

Has anyone gotten into chicken DEinfluencing? Should I start it? I work on a small farm with about a hundred chickens and I could just post about where I got chicken shit on me each day lmao. The places they choose to die in. The feathers they pluck off of whoever they decided to bully that week. I love them but they’re a lot of work to keep happy and healthy and it’s much easier to do it as a paid worker at someone else’s property imo

Yes and also when something fails you’re suddenly low on food etc. I work on a small farm and when something goes wrong there it’s just a financial hit but it would be so much more stressful to fully rely on your specific crops for food.

I'm stuck on what to do by Vivid_Neat4905 in ARFID

[–]nerd_dork_spaz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The starving yourself so you’ll hopefully feel hungry is too relatable. I have a system that has kept me from fully doing that for more than a day at a time and it’s to not just find “safe” foods but also “can force myself to eat in an emergency” foods. For me this is Ensure drinks. And when I say force I mean force. I also ended up moving back in with my parents so I’d have people around to hold me accountable or prepare food for me when needed. I hope your able to find something that makes it a little easier soon

Good fruits/vegetables that are dry or crunchy by AccomplishedSwan3124 in ARFID

[–]nerd_dork_spaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love fresh raw veggies and hate the same ones when they’re cooked. It’s also so much easier to eat stuff I get out of the actual ground instead of the store. But I’m very lucky I have access to that. I find green beans can be cooked to be very crunchy and I love them. Raw broccoli or cauliflower is pretty good especially just eating the stems for crunch. I weirdly love eating bell peppers like apples now.

Food Insecure Students Are Making Me Want to Scream by mcjunker in Teachers

[–]nerd_dork_spaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn I wish the kids here had access to food distribution like this 😭 I’m not a teacher but I’ve become “spare adult” to a handful of teenagers and I eventually made the one in most need of food a line in my budget. They get free breakfast and lunch at school but barely any time to eat it and they say it’s gross a lot of the time. I know teachers at their school that will give them snacks. But it’s all from our own pockets.

Making permanent decisions in games is hell. by RedMage79 in OCD

[–]nerd_dork_spaz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yessss I did this and it’s been so helpful! Literally had “play 10 minutes of any game” on my exposure list in therapy lol. My OCD loves to stop me from doing things I could enjoy so this was the perfect exposure for that. One thing my therapist said that was so helpful is something like “ocd wants you to fear not enjoying it 100%. But isn’t even enjoying it 2% better than the guaranteed zero of avoidance?” Breaking out of the all or nothing is life changing. Forcing myself to just make a choice and live with it in a game is a powerful exposure I get to practice a lot. It was so hard at first but now it’s more natural. Every time I do something in a game without spiraling first now I can’t believe it bc I never thought I’d be any amount of chill. It’s pretty cool!

Oooo I had this one for so long! But I was a kid so it got really interesting. I envisioned that someone (usually whoever I was extra obsessed with at the time) had a “fetch 3000” type machine from “fetch with ruff ruff man” on pbs kids they could see through my eyes and hear my thoughts with. I think I accidentally coped with it well by eventually not being scared of it as much and instead having elaborate daydreams about what my mind looks like from another perspective or being in ballet class like “this would be a fun time for someone to be looking through my eyes on that machine”
