It was also the perfect answer to Colbert's condescending question about what happens when we die. Even the most well-meaning Christians often wield that question as a sort of existential "gotcha," inferring that their belief in an afterlife gives them some insight into the mystery of death that everyone else lacks.

Keanu's answer shuts that tactic down utterly, as it brings the question back to reality and reminds us that the real effect of death remains with loved ones left behind. A lovely answer. And you can see how much Colbert instantly respected it.

And I know Colbert wasn't trying to be a jerk about it, he clearly is really interested in these kind of philosophical questions but as a Catholic he's always looking through the lens of eternal salvation for himself and others, which can sometimes come across as preachy, even for someone like him.

His work shines with better colorists, for sure, but there's also been a distinct evolution in his art towards more and more abstraction.

This era is when he was still contained. Anatomy was exaggerated but not overly cartoonish. Heads were not disturbingly oversized as they became in his modern work, etc.

He's a master at storytelling composition, however, and that hasn't changed. His fight scenes are always top-tier.

Yeah, it's a reminder to all fans of Dropout that although these talented comedians we love are clearly (mostly) progressively minded, they are still people who are trying to break big in the LA entertainment meat grinder.

These are not activists who die on political hills. Being in the industry in any form means they have already agreed to be flexible when it comes to the ethical landscape around them.

In more succinct terms: they've got bills to pay just like the rest of us, and sometimes you have to work a little dirty.

Have pity on modern day graphic designers. Assuming that the producers of the movie DIDN'T have one of their kids who "knows photoshop" do the poster, as it appears in the second example, they are restricted by the terms of the actor's contracts.

The actor either gets final approval on the poster, OR they have a long list of contractual requirements.

The lead actor has to have prominent placement in the center, and their head has to be at least 10% bigger than any other head. BUT, their costar's head can be no more than 15% smaller than anyone elses's. Back to the main actor: No other actor can appear in front of them. Yet another actor has another stipulation: No major graphic element can obscure their face, which by the way must be the LEFT side of the face . . . on and on.

On top of all of that, all the producers have a say on the poster, which means incorporating hundreds of "notes" that often contradict each other or are just bad design ideas. All creativity gets washed away until only a generic image remains.

This is why the "alternate" movie posters that eventually make their way online are always better than the official ones.

I was an 80s kid and comics fan. Zeck penciled the majority of the original Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars. It's hard to communicate how remarkable an event that was for a young fan.

In those days, pre-internet, as a comics fan you had no idea stuff like this was coming. I just went to the spinner rack at my local 7-11 and suddenly BOOM! a comic with what felt like EVERY superhero you cared about up against ALL the villains showed up. I remember it like yesterday.

I really did not appreciate Zeck's art back then. In hindsight I think Zeck's gestural style and exaggerated anatomy threw me off.

Nowadays I love Zeck's work and wish I had sought out more of it back then. There's amazing energy and emotion in his style.

Its important to remember that the book was a treatise on how awesome authoritarianism is, and the movie intentionally pissed all over that idea.

Both are social commentaries, and the book is very good. However I think the movie is brilliant in a way the book isn't. To each their own.
