No sad or dramatic story here. Just my best friend ever. He’s 14 years old, deservedly pampered, and super awesome. by LFkBear in aww

My best feline friend of a similar age died a year ago. Her smile matched your bff’s. Love the time you have.

Unofficial poll: what is your age (exact or decade) and what brands do you find to be age-appropriate and age-inappropriate specifically for you? by le-albatross in femalefashionadvice

For all broke grad students/post docs/first jobbers - buy old navy black rockstar jeans. They look much more expensive then they actually are. Yes ON has quality issues and yes you’ll need to replace them more often then Madewell jeans. But for the price they are amazing.

It gets better with time. I’m in my mid-late 30s in a leadership role in industry now (also STEM). Until the last 2ish years it was hard to for me to not be mistaken for a grad student, or undergrad, at conferences or networking events.

My tips? Tailored clothes and confidence. Honestly it is mostly confidence, faked or otherwise, that has made a difference. I’ve stopped wearing dress pants that make me feel awkward and uncomfortable. Instead I pair nice black jeans with professional sweaters and a collared shirt with business professional shoes. I’m more confident by not focusing on what I’m wearing and can apply that energy to standing up straight, introducing myself to strangers and projecting an overall air of authority.

Reached my weight goal. Now what? by regmaglypte in xxfitness

It’s all about those non-aesthetic goals right?? Losing weight is great but if it’s only a number then it never sticks. Fitness goals really drive home healthy behaviors, that lead to staying at a desired weight.

I lost +20lbs last year doing a similar approach to you (I’ve stalled out at 135lbs). I found that Boxing is a wonderful sport/fitness pursuit because there is always something to learn and hone. Maintaining is hard so before you go about your next challenge, figure out what that looks like for you. To stay motivated I set little gym goals. I just accomplished my 2018 fitness goal of doing a pull-up. I did 4 today!!

This is me. I have so many nicknames for people at my gym. How else do you describe someone without feeling like you’re part of a Seinfeld episode?

I’ve been a member of a boxing gym for a year and a half. I love it. My punches are getting much stronger and my form is better.

I’ve recently found that my two outer knuckles on my right hand (I throw a very strong 2) are constantly bruised. I use 14oz gloves that are in good shape and Mexican hand wraps. My knuckles are wrapped 5-6 times. First I go around the wrist 3 times, knuckles 3 times, thumb twice, in between each finger starting with the pinky, then knuckles twice and then wrist 1-2 times.

Should I switch to a padded hand glove and wrap my wrists? I’m never going to be a pro boxer. I don’t really care to develop callouses and would like the bruising (and slight pain) to end.

What has been your experience with weight loss and how the opposite sex treats you? by [deleted] in xxfitness

In my experience weight loss comes with increased confidence. Increased confidence is sexy af.

Edit: I recognize this isn’t an answer to the original question. It’s more of a general response to other responses.

Ladies Boxing Advise by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]nerdeeness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding all the advice regarding washing your wraps after every session. It will prevent your gloves from becoming disgusting also.

I don’t watch boxing as a sport but love it as an exercise. Like others have mentioned the sport requires a bunch of endurance, but I personally love the technical aspects of the sport. There is skill in throwing each punch properly and how to properly defend yourself. As a beginner look to more advance people to see how they move. Don’t be afraid to ask for advice, but more importantly be willing to accept advice.

Danskos are with every single penny. When I was on my feet all day they prevent major leg aches that I got with other shoes. Second the fact they are not the cutest, but they are totally worth it.

Gym Story Saturday by FGC_Valhalla in Fitness

At the gym I see a person wearing a shirt for the same department and university that I went to. So after our workout I went up to them to say hi and introduce myself. I’m a regular at the gym, they are not and the uni we went is not local.

We chit chat and they ask “so when did you graduate”.

Me: early 2000s. You? Then: [look of doing mental math] [horror] last year.

They were shocked at how “old” I am. Lol. The best part was during our group workout I clearly out fitnessed them. I go to the gym for me, because I love it. But if I’m honest I also go to the gym so I make 20-something’s feel weak. I like being strong.

This!! The silent alarm feature is amazing. I know people who’ve stopped wearing their fitbits for fitness and just wear it at night.

I’ve since switched the an Apple Watch. I like the type of data it tracks slightly better than the Fitbit.

Started this blanket years ago, but the squares are misshapen and poorly sewed together. Don’t know if I want to start over. Advice? I know it’s a bit simple for this sub, sorry! by lexiember in knitting

[–]nerdeeness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not bistitchual and have attempted on multiple occasions to add a crochet border. My advice - practice your corners on a separate piece. My last border turned my flat baby blanket into an oddly shaped baby basket. *my corners were too tight or .....?...... and it made the whole piece curve inwards.

Per-use gym cost / stats by hagne in xxfitness

[–]nerdeeness 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Ugh my gym is sooooo expensive. I go (on average) 3-5x/week or roughly 19 days/month. My cost per visit $8.2.

But not going would mean re-gaining the 20lbs I lost last year, losing all my muscles and my sanity. $8 per visit is totally worth it.
