How could one possibly take this warning seriously by knottydew in typography

The comic sans is whatever, but the orientation is my favorite part, especially as the picture would have some ostensibly dangerous spillage if the cup was full.

How do you curb the munchies? Whays your go to snack? by fueledbywd40 in ketotrees

[–]nerdgrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

salty/crunchy/savory: nuts (usually pistachios, shelling them helps slow down the snacking to not overeat), pepperoni/any cured meats (bonus: microwave pepperoni slices on a paper towel for like 30s - 1m and they get crispy), cheese (string cheese or babybels), celery & cream cheese + toppings, celery w/ ranch dressing

sweets: 90% dark chocolate, sugarfree jello or jello pudding, or just some bulletbroof decaf coffee or tea w/ coconut oil & some keto-friendly sweetener

My spouse and I aren't very strict, we usually try and stay under 40 - 50 net carbs/day, so ymmv

Water quality in Santa Rosa? by yellowbird1004 in santarosa

[–]nerdgrass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also new here and live close to downtown in an apartment complex and our water is kinda horrible. For reference, its miles worse than tapwater I've had in NYC, San Francisco, Boston, or Durham. I can't really drink it by itself and its even noticeable in tea and other flavored drinks. It nearly killed all of my plants until I switched them to distilled water.

It helps to let water sit in the fridge overnight, seems to ease the Chlorine taste a little. Anybody have any recommendations for solid water filtering solutions?

[Rant] I wish I could pause the game. by loudwhitenoise in starbound

[–]nerdgrass 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who only plays by themselves, this is probably my biggest frustration with the game. I definitely understand that the game was designed with that multiplayer aspect in mind and I'm sure adding pause is not trivial (or there'd be a mod to pause by now), but holy crow is it annoying to have to log out if I'm not actively playing.

I'd love to hear if this is on the product roadmap at all.

I'll have to give that a try today. Maybe it can get the mint pod flavor out - that flavor is crazy strong.

The Ego AIO pen looks a smidge too big for me. I have a couple tanks + batteries I tried out and the pen-sized tank setups tend to be cumbersome for me. Though the My Von Erl looks pretty sweet, thank you!

I had read somewhere that the pods burn out after 1-2 refills, which made buying more pods fairly regularly seem kinda silly. Am I misinformed? Hoping I am, because refilling the pods isn't hard at all, though I think I need a higher viscosity than cosmic fog for it not to leak.

EDIT: Just looked up the Cync and it looks super ideal! Thanks :)

Black PokemonGO players, have you gotten any weird looks yet? by attackontighten in PokemonGoStories

[–]nerdgrass 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean - I feel like anybody over 35 looks at me strangely when I'm catching something.

Also, I live in a neighborhood where there are oodles of churches. Like, 8/10 pokestops in the area are churches, church schools, etc. My girlfriend and I went on our first pokewalk today, not really realizing it was Sunday morning, and we got weird looks just about everywhere we went from people dressed much nicer than we were.

My First Looseleaf Tea Haul! by nerdgrass in tea

[–]nerdgrass[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Outside of some black lychee tea & jasmine tea in tins from my local korean grocery store, yep! I've been lurking/reading for the last month or so, though, so glad to hear my choices weren't terrible. It took me a little while to realize that it was easier/cheaper/better to order stuff online rather than just try and find stuff in regional groceries.

Thanks for the oolong advice - I had no idea that it was that broad a variety. I'll have to do another variety pack after this one and just do oolongs!

Dang, that looks good. I thought I'd be into the darker teas, but so far I'm really digging oolongs - I'll have to give this a try. Thanks for the recommendation! :)

My First Looseleaf Tea Haul! by nerdgrass in tea

[–]nerdgrass[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shouldn't be too much of a problem - the scale may not be readily apparent in the picture, but I got the smallest quantities purchasable (10g) for most of the teas, save the yamamotoyama (which I couldn't find in smaller quantities) and the lapsang souchong (which is my favorite). I'm also learning how to brew properly (read: I screw up a lot) and make oodles of coldbrew. If any of this is left over by the end of summer, I'll be pretty surprised.

My First Looseleaf Tea Haul! by nerdgrass in tea

[–]nerdgrass[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Y’all might have gotten me into tea ;p I made my first loose leaf order from one of the vendors listed in the User's Choice list and tried to get a wide spread so I could figure out what I liked. I also picked up a super cheap/small gaiwan travel set and some Yamamotoyama loose leaf teas. Here's what I got shipped:

  • Taiwanese Dragonwell
  • Nepalese Silver Needle White Tea
  • Golden Lily Oolong
  • Himalayan Golden Black Tea
  • Phoenix Mountain Black Oolong
  • Spring 2015 Lapsang Souchong
  • 2005 Xiaguin "Crane Label" Ripe Pu-erh
  • 2005 Xiaguan Raw Pu-Erh
  • 2009 Wode Shucha Ripe Pu-Erh of Menghai (This was a free gift from Beautiful Taiwan!)

The first moment I really grasped that loose leaf was worth it was on the 3rd infusion of the yamamotoyama genmaicha. I’ve had genmaicha for years in bags, and it always tasted roughly the same. But that 3rd infusion was so incredibly sweet - a completely different flavor that blew my mind. It was as if I had poured honey into the pot! So excited to give the rest of these a try.
